Karla, I love this tut.  I know you are fairly new to SBP but, did you know that when you take an exicting SBP preset and change any part, even the bmps used, you can save it as a new preset?

 

You can give it any name you want.  That way you don't have to make adjustments every time you use it. 

 

Here is a screenshot of SBP.  Click the icon by the red line, a box will open that is headed "Save a settings file".  Locate your SBP environments and textures file, open it, change name of preset to your new name and you're all set!

 

 

 

You can share this .q5q file with others.

 

If you use bmps, other than ones included with SBP, you would have to include those bmps with the .q5q file, when you share it .  Otherwise, unless that person has the same bmps already installed, the preset won't work.

 

I think that it is cool that the .q5q file can be opened with notepad and the bmps used are listed near the beginning of the "gobbledy goop" revealed in there.  LOL  Helpful if you forget which bmps you used. 

 

If you name this preset that you created, let me know and I'll save it as such. 

 

Omigoodness, Judy... you picked a gorgeous doll to add to your tag.  Those Daum dolls are so beautiful.  You made a "stellar" tag there LOL.  Love it!

I discovered that I could edit the kerning while in the Text Entry dialog box, but once I close the box, can I edit the kerning of the selected text?

Regarding the modified preset, I didn't know that you could give a modified preset a new name, but I tested your instructions, and it worked; I saved these SBP settings as a new preset "kse_stellarbling" .  Thank you for sharing this information as I don't think I've ever saved a modified preset before, but it's great info to know moving forward , because I'm sure I'm going to be making many more of these tags .

I made a second tag using font size=72, and I animated this one with noise using the tutorial settings, but instead of contracting the selection by 2, I only contracted by 1.  For the "love it" above, I also contracted the selection by 1, but I used noise=50 (instead of noise=100 for my name below).  The noise setting of 50 is gentler than 100.  I used a darker drop shadow on my name (opac=50) and lighter on "love it" (opac=25).  So I'm just having fun trying different settings to see how it affects the text.

I am so loving the results you are sharing, Timber! Keep them coming :-D  I plan to play around with this text effect some more and maybe create something for my websites. Lol, have not added anything new in a while :-D

The name "kse_stellarbling"  sounds good to me.  I'll name mine that.

 

The easiest way to create a new SBP preset is to start with an existing preset and play around with the different settings to find one you like.  I have made a few of my own and added different bmps to use in the enviornments and textures folder.

 

As to the kerning to floating text, I don't know of any way to edit it after closing the Text Entry dialog box.  I'll play around and see what I can find.

 

Timber,I love your animated tag.    I like the look of selection contracted by 1.  Now I get to play some more. 

 

Timber as far being able to edit floating text, the answer is no.

 

The word exit below should be edit.

 

Here is what the PSP 8 User Guide says:

 

page 305 PSP 8 User Guide

Floating (Raster) Creates raster text that is a floating selection. You
cannot exit (sic) raster text, so use this type when you know that the
words and formatting will not change. Use raster text when you want
to apply raster-only tools (such as the Paint Brush) or commands
(such as applying a 3D effect).

It’s best to create raster text on a new raster layer. That way, you can
easily select the text and make changes such as stretching it with the
Deform tool.

When Paint Shop Pro defloats the raster text selection (such as when
you click another tool), the raster text is merged with the underlying
raster layer. If a vector layer is active, Paint Shop Pro creates a new
raster layer.

 

Either way, I have clicked and searched through folders (in My PSP Files in My Documents and also in the Jasc files) and cannot seem to find the bmp/jpg files that I used to be able to see.

Oh no Karla!  I uploaded the kse_strallarbling and bmps that I saved to files and documents  here at TT. 

 

 

Hope that helps.  I have no idea why the looks of your SBP have changed.

Karla, Look in the folder where your SBP plugin is located.  Open the SBP folder and there should be a folder titled. "Environments and Textures".

 

This is the location you need to open in your SBP.

I had another play.

 

 

I used the Feeling Lovely font at size 92.  I contracted by 1 and set my noise as Uniform, mono, 50/45/40.  Thanks again for the tut and the preset!

 

And lol, I feel so dumb ... THANK YOU for the BIG help with this. I now see the LIGHT (bling).  Now, I can live happily lol

LOL karla, you are very welcome.  I have noticed that when I run my CCleaner to remove cookies, etc., it changes my SBP folder settings and I have to re-direct it.  So, don't feel alone, I've been there.
