I’ve been rereading parts of Jujutsu Kaisen, and the more I do, the more I realize how different it feels compared to most modern shonen. On the surface, it has familiar elements—curses, sorcerers, power systems—but the execution is much darker and more grounded.

What really stands out to me is how consequences actually matter. Characters don’t get protected just because they’re popular or “too important to die.” When someone is injured or killed, it permanently affects the story and the surviving characters. That sense of danger keeps every arc tense, especially from Shibuya onward.

Another big difference is the way Gege Akutami writes villains. They’re not just obstacles for the heroes to overcome; they feel intelligent, strategic, and genuinely terrifying. Sukuna, in particular, isn’t a typical “sealed demon waiting to be redeemed.” He’s cruel, selfish, and unpredictable, which makes every scene involving him unsettling.

Overall, JJK doesn’t just aim to hype fights—it builds anxiety, moral conflict, and emotional weight. That’s what keeps me hooked.
