Pero hubo algo que empañó el éxito de la película, la demanda que Crispin Glover interpuso a los responsables de la película por usar sin permiso su imagen. Como comentaba antes, varios planos de Regreso al futuro donde aparecía el actor fueron usados en la segunda parte. No se llegó a juicio, ya que la Universal llegó a un acuerdo con el actor por 765.000 dólares si éste retiraba la demanda. Después de lo acontecido, el "Gremio de Actores del Cine" introdujo nuevas reglas sobre el uso ilícito de los actores.
