The Son of Man in the Gospels can be traced to the constellation Orion which represents Jesus' Spirit. Background for this report can be found in Gospel Zodiac, Jesus' Ghost and Pillar of Cloud. They explain how Jesus allegorizes the sun, the nature of Jesus' Spirit and the role the Milky Way plays in apocalyptic prophecies. This report explains the astrological significance of Son of Man.
Introduction
One of the imperatives in Christian mythology is the belief that the world as we know it will end someday. God will overthrow the forces of evil and all who side with them, and only those who repent and follow Jesus' teachings will be allowed to enter the new Kingdom of God. Jesus and Paul mention it often and the Book of Revelation is devoted to it.
Many passages attest that Jesus expected the end of the world to come in his time, not thousands of years later. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus refers to some mysterious Son of man, a cosmic judge sent from heaven who would destroy whoever opposes God and reward those who are faithful.
Who this Son of man? The popular claim has it that Jesus was referring to himself in the third person. It's plausible because many passages fit the course of Jesus' ministry. What is suspicious about this rationale is that Jesus appears to be describing someone else.
38For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." 1And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power." (Mark 8:38-9:1)
I submit that Christian reasoning is entirely wrong. When Christians read the predictions of the end of the world, they are waiting for events to unfold on earth. Even after 2,000 years of false alarms, they have not lost patience, and I don't know if they will ever admit that maybe they are misreading the New Testament.
Such a calamity cannot happen as the Bible predicts. Something on that scale would take an event like a large meteor to hit earth. In such a case, a meteor would not care who is faithful to Jesus. If there was a nuclear war, bombs would be guided by human stupidity, not divine intelligence. If any other catastrophe happens on that scale, earth would not be a very pleasant place for the survivors. Whatever the cause of mass destruction, faith will not protect anybody. Even worse, if the entire world was destroyed, as devout Christians believe, there would be no survivors.
What confuses modern readers is the way the Bible's writers coded their belief in the power of the stars as if they affected life on earth. The matter before us is to decipher their writings for what they meant to ancients, not to what modern believers want to believe.
For this reason, we will examine the Bible from an astronomical point of view. It was a time when ancients perceived the stars in heaven as patterns to be interpreted as God's divine plan for life on earth. The sun was especially important to them because they understood that life on earth depended on it.
There are three clues which clarify what they were writing about. The first describes the Son of man as the constellation Orion. The second relates the yearly sun cycle to the end of the world. The third tracks Orion with the sun cycle. There can be no other conclusion except that the idea of a supernatural God was conceived as a ruse to mislead faithful Christians.
The Son of man
Three passages define the Son of man in physical form.
The first appears in the apocalyptic writings of the Book of Daniel, where Daniel describes the Son of man as riding on the clouds of heaven to the "Ancient of days" to give him everlasting dominion over the new kingdom of heaven.
13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of mancame with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. (Dan. 7:13-14)
Revelation's description of the Son of man fits the pattern of stars in the constellation Orion. The star on his right shoulder is bright red (upper left star). The three stars at his waste were later seen as the three wise men who announced the birth of Jesus.
12Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast; 14his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, 15his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters; 16in his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth issued a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. (Rev. 1:12-20)
The Son of man has a cluster of stars in the background that look like the clouds upon which the Son of man rides. Astronomical maps show the Milky Way behind the constellation Orion. From earth, they look like clouds.
14And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. (Rev. 14:14-20)

Orion as seen in human form. His right hand could be holding a sickle or a club. His left hand could be holding an animal skin, a shield or a bow. The Milky Way is behind him. The arc above him represents the sun's path. The line going through his waste is the celestial equator which runs parallel to earth's equator.
Orion's legacy
After the Big Dipper, Orion is perhaps the next most celebrated constellation in the winter sky. Mythologies about Orion probably originated from the Egyptians thousands of years ago and extended to the Greeks at the turn of the first century. It is a very important constellation to astral religions and easy to recognize.
To the ancient Egyptians, Orion was Osiris the God of Light. Set was Orisis' brother and the God of Darkness. According to legend, Orisis was murdered by his evil brother Set, who tore his body into pieces and scattered the fragments. Isis, Osiris' wife, managed to put him back together except for his phallus, which had been swallowed by a fish. She made an artificial phallus and breathed into his body to restore his soul. Thereafter, he rose to the sky.
In one period, Orion represented the Egyptian god of the dead and the first king of Egypt. After death, the pharaoh was thought to mystically inseminate the stars to ensure that, through Osiris, Horus the sun god would be reborn as his successor.
In one Greek myth, Orion was the son of Neptune and the nymph Euryale. He was of gigantic size, strength and beauty. He was so tall that he could walk through deep water without wetting his head. His hubris invoked Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth to send a scorpion to kill him. His fall to earth can be seen when the stars of Orion sink defeated below the western horizon and the stars of Scorpion are just rising in the east.
The next night he rises again, saved by Ophiuchus, the Doctor of Antiquity who gave him an antidote for the scorpions poison. This can be seen when the Scorpion sets in the southwest with Ophiuchus standing over him as a symbol of the antidote. Later, when Ophiuchus sets in the west, Orion comes up from the east, fully recovered.
In these myths alone we see fragments of Christian mythology. Gods die and are restored to life. They are given a soul by being breathed into and they fall to earth as Adam did. The scorpion brings death as Judas did to Jesus. There is the eternal conflict between light and dark. (See Light verses Dark)
The timing of Orion's cycle fits with the birth of Jesus on December 25. It makes its first appearance in the east in mid December each year. And as the season progresses, Orion rises with the sun and sets in the west three days before it rises in the east again.
With the sun personified as Jesus, it is accurate to think of Orion as a constellation in synch with the sun's cycle. In a sense they are like conjoined twins who suffer the same fate. This is why the confusion about whether Jesus is referring to himself as the Son of Man in the third person or whether the Son of Man is some cosmic judge.
The sun cycle
In allegorical language, the sun goes through four seasonal cycles. It is born on December 25 when daylight hours start to increase. At about this same time Orion rises in the east with its three belt stars as the three wise men. As Orion rises, the star Sirius ascends above the horizon as the star of Bethlehem. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
The powers of darkness are still in power, but as the daylight hours increase, it is seen as overcoming the forces that try to stop it. In the Gospels, this is when Jesus is born and when his parents take him away to keep Herod from killing him.
At the spring equinox it has entered the gates of heaven when daylight hours start to emerge more powerful than the dark evil forces. Jesus' mission starts in the spring when he collects his disciples and builds a following.
At the summer solstice, when the sun is the highest in the sky, the sun is on its throne. In the following summer months, as the sun descends, it is still strong, but it is weakening as the dark forces start to make war against it. To show his strength, Jesus performs miracles and exorcises demons. At this time Orion is at the height of its ascent.
When the sun passes through the fall equinox, it enters the gates to hell. Night time hours start to lengthen and the dark forces are said to be fighting their way back to power. The sun continues to weaken until it dies for three days following December 21. This is when Jesus is betrayed by Judas and is taken to trial and executed. Allegorically, this is the end of the world.
On December 25, the sun is resurrected and the cycle repeats.
This cycle is not unique to Christianity; it plays out through the mythologies of resurrected gods. It was the age of fable when the constellations were assigned the names of gods. There was Hercules who died on his twelfth labor like Jesus. There is Jason and the Argonauts with their ship Argo, reminiscent of Noah's ark. The constellation Perseus holding the head of Medusa looks like David holding the head of Goliath. There are creation myths, supreme gods who mate with virgins, giants, serpents and a host of other characters like those in the Bible.
The Bible cannot be understood by those who are so blinded with faith that they keep their heads buried in the ground trying to make historical sense out of it. Look up to the sky. biblical Omens
In Mark chapter 13, there is an allegorical summary of the astronomical omens that lead to the end of the world. They start when the sun is at full power at its highest position on the horizon to when it descends to its death at the lowest position.
1. When the sun is at the summer solstice in Gemini, Jesus predicted that some day the temple will be destroyed. His disciples wanted to know what sign they should look for to know when this event will happen. In biblespeak, "sign" denotes astrological signs.
1And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!" 2And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down." 3And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 4"Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished?" (Mark 13:1-4)
2. After the sun passes the high point of the summer solstice it descends lower with each passing day. Allegorically, the sun is weakening because the dark forces of evil are said to waging war against it. The wars are just beginning.
The sun starts to descend in the house of Cancer. It is usually a time of hesitation, so Jesus warns what to expect and not to be alarmed.
7And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is not yet. 8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. 9"But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them. (Mark 13:7-8)
3. The wars between light and dark intensify as the days get shorter. The sun is still strong, but the forces of evil are gaining power.
The house of Leo brings strength from the new harvest. So Jesus says to be strong against adversity and you will be saved.
11And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; 13and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. 14"But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; (Mark 13:11-14)
4. Virgo is the last house before the sun descends into hell-Virgo is described as a nursing mother. There is no turning back.
15let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything away; 16and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle. 17And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck[Virgo] in those days! (Mark 13:15-17)
5. The sun has passed the fall equinox into Scorpio. The days are getting progressively shorter than the nights. According to Jesus, if the days did not get shorter, no one could be saved, so God shortened the days. Pray that the sign doesn't happen in winter because it is the worst of times. If the days are still getting shorter and someone says the Christ has come, do not believe them. It is not the right time.
18Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be. 20And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. 21And then if any one says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it. 22False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23But take heed; I have told you all things beforehand. (Mark 13:18-23)
6. The sun is in Sagittarius as the sun descends to its lowest point on the horizon. On the darkest days of the winter when the moon does not give light, the Son of man will come in clouds. The Son of man in clouds can be seen in the picture above. Below, the next frame shows the son of men descending on December 21.
24"But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. (Mark 13:24-27)
7. You will know he is near the gates to heaven (the spring equinox) when fig trees start to grow leaves.
28"From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. (Mark 13:28-29)
8. This generation will see these things take place. -He means his generation.
30Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place. 31Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Mark 13:30-31)
In the first century on December 21 at midnight, when the sun is darkened and the moon does not give up its light, the Son of man can be seen descending to earth. A month later it disappears from view.
Orion ascends in the east three days after its disappearance in the west.
CYGNUS STAR CORRELATION WITH GIZA... MASSIVELY FLAWED
Was Cygnus theory a genuine theory with error... or hoax/cover-up?
Article by Alice Smith. The Cygnus star correlation claim for Giza correlation has recently entered the pyramid research arena claiming its more accurate and more likely than Orion's Belt theory. The results of the claim are here of an evaluation by astronomers with reasoning, logic and reference to Egyptian history. The overall evaluation reveals the Cygnus claim is so much in error that the reasons and motivations for its appearance need to be questioned.

FIRST PRIMARY FLAW...
THE CYGNUS STAR CLAIM HAS STAR DEVIATION AND IS NOT MORE ACCURATE IN A THREE STAR CORRELATION COMPARISON WITH ORION'S BELT.
The mismatch deviation is not more accuratre than the slight Orion's Belt deviation error and therefore BOTH theories have this equal anomaly. Note how the star shown for the smaller Menkare Pyramid has the deviation error. This deviation is slightly more than the deviation error found in the Orion's Belt correlation theory if one insists comparison in an older more probable ancient Epoch beyond 5000 yrs old. But since both theories have slight deviation matches it is more important to compare each theory's COMPLETE STORY and probability towards finding truth.
The author of the Cygnus Mystery claimed it was a BETTER correlation than Giza... that is because the 'friend' with star program he used was not accurate, or used poor art graphics, or it was set at an incorrect time correlation instead of 2500BC when the pyramids are 'theorised' to have been built. To be more accurate, the Cygnus claim will be even more in error and deviated compared to Orion's Belt IF the new Pole star finding on the Dendera Zodiac Disc is true that dates the building of the pyramids beyond 5500BC.
ORIGIN OF ORION/GIZA CORRELATION THEORY
The Orion's Belt correlation with the three pyramids of Giza was originally published by Robert Bauval author of The Orion Mystery and it is one that Wayne Herschel author of The Hidden Records has built on and presented here on this website with all the pyramids taken into context. ref
The Hidden Records correlation theory duplicates only Robert Bauval's three pyramids of Giza with due credit, but from here forward a complete 50 pyramid theory is presented backed up by a string of new discoveries, the greatest being the star shafts correlations that duplicate a complete daily shaft alignment scan including all the new stars proposed by Herschel for the 50 pyramids. ref
A point of interest here since Wayne Herschel's book... Robert Bauval's 2006 Egypt Decoded also generally agrees with Herschel's Abusir Pleiades correlation published in 2003.

It also has the pyramids seen in a perfect overhead shot used in the top image to measure correlation.
CYGNUS THEORY... ACCIDENTAL ERROR OR HOAX?
Although internet speculation of the Cygnus theory has most believing it is fake, Wayne believes the Cygnus claim is just a collection of accidental errors that many usually make who are not familiar with astronomy.
The results that unfold here not only prove that Robert Bauval's Orion's Belt theory is an out right winner from perspective of appearance, ancient Egyptian history reference, reasoning and logic... but it will show how extremely questionable the Cygnus theory is and why some say that it is such an obscure choice of stars, it begs questioning how and why the theory started in the first place.
SECOND PRIMARY FLAW...
THE STARS OF CYGNUS ARE NOT AS BRIGHT AND SO WIDESPREAD AND WITHIN THE BRIGHT BAND OF THE MILKY WAY THAT IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE A THREE IN A ROW CORRELATION THEME
Note the importance of comparing apples with apples, both Cygnus and Orion's Belt below are photographed with a visual star size appearance mode similar to how they appear to the naked eye. Note the background brightness difference. Cygnus has the Milky Way behind it and Orions Belt has clear sky. The reason the stars look so small here is due to the fact an equal widespread shot would be too big for the computer screen to fit when setting the same size window as the Orion image. (That is why the binding red lines seem different between the two images but its because the stars are far apart).

The difference to how Orion's belt with three bright stars in a row theme appeares in the sky compared to Cygnus is astronomical to say the least. Orion's Belt is fairly large in the sky that all recognise filling within 3 degrees of arc in the sky. But Cygnus with a brighter background from the Milky Way and stars of generally lower magnitude as a whole are spread across a vast 16 degrees of arc in the sky! More than five times the sky spread of Orion's Belt! That is why the Cygnus stars appear so small in the image due to a smaller window size needed.
Note the ringed star in the Cygnus image. This is Deneb the brightest star in the Cygnus constellation RIGHT NEXT to the three stars chosen AND IT BY LOGIC NEEDS TO BE PART OF GIZA THEME WITH A BIGGER PYRAMID THAN THE GREAT PYRAMID IF CYGNUS WAS BEING DUPLICATED! This position on the ground is an absolute zero match with anything important.
This is why in average near city sky conditions with the naked eye its really ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to chose any 3 stars in a row theme with the three Cygnus stars chosen in this questionable correlation claim.
ORION - 5 TIMES MORE VISIBLE - 5 TIMES MORE LIKELY
Compare Orion's Belt with Cygnus with EQUAL photo optics settings with the same naked eye appearance mode that needs to be evaluated.
THIRD PRIMARY FLAW...
THE STAR SIZE WITH PYRAMID SIZE CORRELATION IS INCORRECT WITH THE CYGNUS CLAIM
This mismatch by size correlation is massive.

Rounding off brightness its one not so bright, then one brighter in the middle and another of brightness between these two magnitudes on the end that is supposed to compare with the small pyramid of Menkare! This confirms a deeper flaw in size correlation. The size correlation fits better upside down! The reason it is shown this way around is obviously the author trying to include the mound Wayne proposed as a pyramid ruin in his work including the outer stars of Orion. ref
FOURTH, FIFTH AND SIXTH PRIMARY FLAWS
THE CYGNUS CONSTELLATION HAS NO LINKS TO ANY EGYPTIAN TEXTS INSCRIPTIONS OR HISTORY AND STAR SHAFT CORRELATIONS.
In the image above, if there were no lines added any sort of three in a row alignment would be completely lost with its bright milky Way star mass background. Here is proof ... have a look at this large image by an astronomer with a little more clarity than naked eye... now try look for three stars in a row... Astromomer Cygnus image
There are no Cygnus Swan star patterns and mention of it in Egyptology in any shape or form. To include the hieroglyphs of some stork duck or Ibis and other birds as a 'swan' would be a hoax. There are no swan constellations on the Dendera disc either.

GIZA IS ORION'S BELT

Yes Giza also has a slight deviation of perfection with correlation of its smallest star and the pyramid of Menkare (see image below) but there is more to come to reason this. Its all part of the geometry match importance so one line links all three of its corners to unlock its secret as the 'lance' of the heavens above the shoulders of Horus as Orion, without changing the size pyramid match to magnitude. CYGNUS SYMBOL IDENTIFIED... IN MUSIC
After discussing the useages of the rare or 'missing' swan symbol in Egyptology one researcher replied in a discussion group that he had found two cases of usage of the swan symbol but it was only a text account. He did however suggest since both accounts had a music and harp theme, where one actual harp itself was swan shaped, (lower portion of image) he suggests multiple bird glyphs seem to be chosen with music. Perhaps the instruments and musical notes were originally written pictographically and inspired by the musical sounds... of birds.

55. Y si no echareis a los moradores del país de delante de vosotros, sucederá que los que dejareis de ellos serán por aguijones en vuestros ojos y por espinas en vuestros costados, y os afligirán sobre la tierra en que vosotros habitareis.

Cada 21 de junio, en solsticio, la nave espacial Tierra está ante el Sol y la constelación de Orión, de modo que al MEDIODÍA de dicho solsticio Orión está debajo del Sol, aunque no lo distingamos debido a la luz solar. Después, durante 6 meses, la Tierra da media órbita y se coloca entre el Sol y Orión, y por tanto tenemos visión de Orión en la noche, y concretamente en la MEDIANOCH...E vemos a Orión en el mismo punto del cielo que en el mediodía del otro solsticio, hace 6 meses.

The night sky is replete with so many wonders. These wonders need just our eyes to be seen. One way to become familiar with the beautiful night sky is by Star-hopping.
In this digital age we are so engrossed with our daily lives that we don’t get to feed our souls. The best way to find a perspective in our meaningless lives is to have a look at the great wonders of the night sky.
But…..if you are not familiar with the sky, your first experience would be just like gazing to a thousands of dots on a big, very big black roof. So to solve this we are going to learn star-hopping.
Star-hopping is a great technique to identify where stars are.
First of all you have to identify your guideposts, (stars which are bright enough to indicate where less brighter stars are)and then once you have found them, you start star hopping.
It’s the same as you jump, jump and jump.
Yeah, you jump with your feet but here you do it with your eyes. That’s why I call it “eye jump”
Benefits of Star hopping
Star-hopping really is awesome. Believe me finding even one constellation out of the 88 constellations or an asterism is purely fascinating. This allows you not only to recognize the patterns of constellations, but in the process….let it be even a life-time…..you’re also learning about star distances, star colours, ages and names.

Orion, the Hunter
In our summer skies (Southern Hemisphere –Mauritius, in the Northern Hemiphere it is Winter), just have a look towards the west, you would find the three stars aligned – these three are the Orion’s belt. This is the easiest to find.
The two stars north of this are Orion’s shoulders. One of these is Betelgeuse (“BEETLE-juice”), which is a giant red star. The two brighter stars to the south are Orion, the hunter’s legs. The bright blue star is Rigel.
Ancient people used Orion to predict the seasons: If it appeared at midnight, the grapes were ready to harvest. If it appeared in the morning, summer was beginning. If it appeared in the evening, winter had arrived. In the photo below, as we can see, we have already identified seven bright stars. Now taking them as guide-posts, we can find your way to other stars and constellations too. You just have to find your way to them by imagining your straight lines and gradually hopping from one star to another. Quite easy, you see.

PHYSICAL ORION
Orion is a constellation, which is the head of a constellation family, located in the equatorial region of the sky and belongs certainly to the most famous constellations. It extends from RA=4h 40m to RA=6h 20m and DECL=+23 degrees to DECL=+8 degrees.
In some ways the central part of this constellation reminds on a oblique sand-glass. In wintertime Orion is a magnificent constellation which can easily be found by the the three stars forming a line building the belt of the Hunter. The belt stars point towards Sirius, the brightest star in the constellation of the Larger Dog, Canis Major, situated SE of Orion.
From his belt there hangs a well defined deggar, which is known for one of the most famous nebulas in the sky: The Large Orion Nebula (M42).
Orion lies close enough to the Milky Way to be interesting enough to be swept even with low-power telescopes or binoculars.

Stars and objects
The shoulder star alpha Ori, Betelgeuse, is a variable red giant; its brightness varies from 0.4 mag to 1.3 mag with no set period. It belong to the 20 brightest stars in the sky. During it pulsations the diameter of the star varies from 300 to 400 times the diameter of the sun.
The leg of the hunter, beta Ori, Rigel (arab.: the foot), is a blue-white giant of 0.08 mag. This makes it the sixth brightest star in the sky and the brightest in the constellation Orion. With medium sized telescopes it is possible to distinguish the companion of Rigel, a 7th mag star (smaller telescopes may fail to reveal the companion because of the glare of Rigel).

For binoculars and smaller telescopes the following stars are of interest:
delta Ori, Mintaka (arab.: upper end of the girdle), a blue-white star of 2.2 mag with a 7th mag companion. iota Ori, a 3rd mag and a 7th mag star forming an unequal double; in the same field the wider double Struve 747 can be found - a pair of a 5th mag and a 6th mag star.
lamba Ori, a tight pair of 4th and 6th mag stars.
sigma Ori is a terrific multiple star; in binoculars this blue-white star of 4 mag and a 7th mag companion can be resolved; using a small telescope two closer companions of 7th mag and 10th mag are revealed. These stars are grouped in a way that they look like a planet with moons.
If the resolution is not too high in the same telescopic field as sigma Ori the triple star Struve 761 can be seen. It consists of a triangle of 8th mag and 9th mag stars. Together with sigma Ori this triple star gives a delightfully rich grouping.
NGC 1981, a little cluster of 10 stars including the binary Struve 750, a pair of a 6th mag and a 8th mag star.
The multiple star theta1 Ori, the northern star of the deggar of the Hunter is also called the Trapezium; it is located in the heart of the Orion nebula. This group of stars has been formed from the gas of the nebula, which now glows in their light. Small telecopes (about 2-inch and higher) show four stars, ranging from 5th mag to 8th mag, which form a rectangular figure. Scopes with an aperture of about 100 mm show two more stars of 11th mag in this group.
Next to it lies theta2 Ori, a duo of a 5th and a 6th mag star. For resolving the tight double of zeta Ori (Alnitak) in its consisting parts, a bright star of 2.02 mag and a 4th mag companion, scopes with an apertur of at least 75mm and a high resolution are required. Further more there is a wider companion of 10th mag.
Eta Ori is a difficult pair. Scopes with an aperture of 100 mm and higher are necessary to split it into its 4th mag and 5th mag stars.

Around October 21 each year the famous Orionid meteor shower reaches its peak. Coming from the the border to the constellation gemini as much as 20 meteors per hour can be seen. All three stars are at the same distance from Earth. Rigel, Saiph, and Meissa, probably were formed at about the same time some ten million years ago from the molecular clouds astronomers have found in Orion.
From the northern hemisphere, the three bright stars (Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka) in a straight line that form Orion's Belt are easily visible on the southern horizon in winter evenings. The bright star that forms Orion's left shoulder is Betelgeuse. The name of this star means "The Armpit of the Central One" in Arabic, which shows that like many other constellations, Orion was recognized across many cultures.
Hanging down from Orion's belt is his sword that is made up of three fainter stars. The central "star" of the sword is actually not a star at all, but the Great Orion Nebula, one of the regions most studied by astronomers in the whole sky. Nearby is the Horsehead Nebula, which is a swirl of dark dust in front of a bright nebula.

MINTAKA - Delta Orionis - Arabic word for belt ALNILAM - The Amazon Star - Belt of Pearls ALNITAK - Zeta Orionis - The Girdle BELLATRIX - Alpha Orionis RIGEL - The 7th brightest star in the sky SAIPH - Kappa Orionis MEISSA - Lambda Orionis BETELGEUSE - (Pronounced "beetle juice") - a red supergiant star about 600 lightyears distant, is shown here in this Hubble Space Telescope image which represents the first direct picture of the surface of a star other than the Sun. While Betelgeuse is cooler than the Sun, it is more massive and over 1000 times larger - if placed at the center of our Solar System, it would extend past the orbit of Jupiter. Like many star names, Betelgeuse is Arabic in origin. It is derived from a phrase which refers to the hunter's shoulder or armpit, the general area occupied by this star in drawings of the figure in the constellation. As a massive red supergiant, it is nearing the end of its life and will soon become a Supernova.
A recently discovered object, named SOri70, has been observed near the young star Sigma Orionis. It could be a young planet, or a wandering old brown dwarf in the line of sight. This is a question to be discussed by the astronomers attending the International Astronomical Union Symposium on Brown Dwarfs that opened Monday on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Deep sky images and follow-up spectroscopy obtained by an international team of astronomers revealed this extremely cool and dim object close to the multiple stellar system Sigma Orionis. The astronomers made the observations with large telescopes in Hawaii and the Canary Islands.

Since the acute visual observations of Sir William Herschel in the 18th Century, astronomers have noted a clustering of stars in a region of the sky of about the size of the full moon surrounding the hot star Sigma Orionis. Many X-ray emitting low-mass stars in this cluster were found by Scott Wolk and Fred Walter of SUNY at Stony Brook. Several brown dwarfs in this region were revealed by some of the members of the team that Monday reported on the discovery of the coolest and faintest object ever seen around Sigma Orionis.
The story of how SOri70 was found includes two of the world's most powerful telescopes separated by more than 8,000 miles and about four years of international collaborative effort. It is an example of the complicated work that is needed to hunt for the elusive brown dwarfs and extrasolar planets.
In December 1998, team members Victor Bejar and Eduardo Martin pointed one of the world's largest optical telescopes, the 10-meter Keck I on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, at several fields around Sigma Orionis and obtained CCD images of unprecedented sensitivity for this region of the sky. They found several extremely faint red objects, but they did not have enough information to determine their basic properties. They had to wait patiently for a chance to obtain additional data. It came when they used an infrared camera at the William Herschel Telescope in La Palma, Canary Islands, in November 2000.
One of the objects turned out to have blue infrared colors despite being very red at optical wavelengths, a unique signature of the coolest known dwarfs. The unusual colors of these dwarfs are explained by the presence of methane in their atmospheres, which is a gas that can be present only at temperatures lower than about 1,200 degrees Kelvin (about 900 degrees Celsius or 1,650 degrees Fahrenheit). An object of this temperature must have a mass smaller than a star.
The intriguing object was observed once more with the Keck I telescope last December by team member Maria Rosa Zapatero Osorio of the Laboratory for Fundamental Astrophysics in Madrid, Spain. These observations confirmed spectroscopically the presence of methane in the object, which unambiguously classifies it as a brown dwarf or planet. If the object is located at the same distance as the Sigma Orionis system, 1,150 light-years from Earth, it should have an age between 1 and 8 million years and a mass close to that of Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System.
However, the distance to the object is not known yet; it will take the sharp imaging capabilities of the Hubble Space Telescope to determine it. There is about a 20% probability that SOri70 is a wandering old brown dwarf that happens to be in the direction of the Sigma Orionis, but is actually closer to Earth.
If the new ultracool dwarf is related to the Sigma Orionis system, it would be the lowest mass extrasolar object imaged to date. Because it would be located more than 180,000 astronomical units from Sigma Orionis (more than 36,000 times the Jupiter-Sun distance), it would challenge our ideas about the formation of extrasolar giant planets.
Perhaps second only to the Big Dipper in Ursa Major, the constellation of Orion is one of the most recognizable patterns of stars in the northern sky. Orion, the hunter, stands by the river Eridanus and is accompanied by his faithful dogs, Canis Major and Canis Minor.
Together they hunt various celestial animals, including Lepus, the rabbit, and Taurus, the bull. According to Greek mythology, Orion was in love with Merope, one of the Seven Sisters who form the Pleiades, but Merope would have nothing to do with him. Orion's tragic life ended when he stepped on Scorpius, the scorpion.
The gods felt sorry for him, so they put him and his dogs in the sky as constellations. They also put all of the animals he hunted up there near him. Scorpius, however, was placed on the opposite side of the sky so Orion would never be hurt by it again.
In Greek mythology, Orion was a giant and a great hunter. Artemis, goddess of the Moon and of the hunt, fell in love with him and neglected her task of lighting the night sky.
Her twin brother, Apollo, seeing Orion swimming far out to sea challenged his sister to hit what was no more than a dot among the waves. Not realising that this was Orion, Artemis shot an arrow and killed Orion.
When his body washed up on shore, Artemis saw what she had done. Inconsolable, she placed his body in the sky, together with his hunting dogs. Her grief is manifest in the coldness and sadness of the Moon.
Five stars are of 1st magnitude or brighter, 15 are brighter than 4th magnitude. Rigel, Betelgeuse, Bellatrix and Saiph form the quadrilateral outline inside of which are the three remote 1st and 2nd magnitude stars of Orion's belt - Alnilam, Alnitak and Mintaka. South of the belt is Orion's sword, in which lies the gaseous Orion nebula (M42).
The area contains many double stars including Rigel, several variable stars, and the dark Horsehead nebula. An immense oval ring of ionised hydrogen, Barnard's loop, surrounds most of Orion.
Some say Orion was produced thus: Hyrieus sacrificed a Bull when he received Zeus, Hermes and Poseidon. As Hyrieus was childless and asked the gods for children, they urinated in the hide of the sacrificed bull, buried it in the earth and from it Orion was born. Orion was of gigantic stature. Poseidon bestowed on him the power of striding across the sea.
Orion wished to wed Merope 3, the daughter of Oenopion 1, son of Ariadne, but her father disliked the idea and he made Orion drunk, put out his eyes as he slept, and then cast him on the beach. But Orion went to the smithy of Hephaestus, and snatching up a lad set him on his shoulders and bade him lead him to the sunrise, and when he came there he was healed by the sun's rays.
Some say that Orion felt confident that he was most skilled in hunting, and said that he was able to kill anything the earth produced. Gaia (Earth), angered at this boast, sent the Scorpion that killed him.
Others say that he was killed by Artemis who was challenged by Apollo to hit with her arrows a black object in the sea, which she could not see, and that later was discovered to be Orion's head.
Still others say that Orion was killed for challenging Artemis to a match of quoits, or shot by her for offering violence to Opis 3, one of the maidens who had come from the Hyperboreans. It is also said that the gods were jealous because Orion was the lover of Eos, and for that reason Artemis killed him.
It is also said that Orion was put among the stars by Artemis, who mourned him and that the Dog (Canis Major) was put among the stars to keep Orion company in his hunting.

Alfa Ori (a Ori Betelgeuse). Esta supergigante de color rojo es una de las estrellas más grandes que podemos ver. Situada a unos 425 años luz, tiene un diámetro equivalente a 630 veces el del Sol. Para tener una idea más clara de lo grande que es, si estuviese en el lugar del Sol, su superficie llegaría hasta la mitad de la distancia que hay entre el Sol y Júpiter. Esta estrella está en su etapa final, y dado que su masa inicial es unas 15 veces la solar, su final será una explosión que la convertirá primero en una supernova y finalmente en una estrella de neutrones. Si la pudiésemos ver como supernova, su brillo sería lo suficiente como para poder verse incluso de día. Esta estrella es también una variable de periodo de 2.070 días con un rango de magnitudes entre 0,4 y 1,3.
Coordenadas: 5h 55.172m RA y 7° 24.417' Dec. Probablemente la estrella más grande de nuestra parte de la Vía Láctea, esta fría supergigante roja (tipo espectral M1-2Ia-Iab) es la única estrella conocida de primera magnitud cuyo brillo varía significativamente, con un periodo irregular de unos 6 años y oscilante entre 0,4 y 1,3. A pesar de habérsele asignado la letra Alpha es menos luminosa que Rigel. Según las estimaciones, con sus dimensiones normales llenaría el interior de la órbita de Marte y, al hincharse, su diámetro equivaldría a la órbita de Júpiter. Otra característica que le hace interesante es que, junto al sol, es la única estrella a la que los astrónomos han visto las características de su superficie.
Betelgeuse, una supergigante

Betelgeuse es la estrella mas brillante de la constelación de Orión, y una de las mas brillantes del cielo. Esta constelación es fácilmente localizable en el cielo nocturno por la tres estrellas brillantes alineadas que forman el "cinturón" de Orión, el guerrero. Diez grados al suroeste del cinturón se halla Rigel, una estrella brillante de color azul, opuesta a Betelgeuse, la estrella roja situada diez grados al noreste del cinturón. De las diez estrellas mas brillantes del firmamento Betelgeuse es la mas roja, siendo su distintivo color perceptible al ojo humano.
Desde hace tiempo sabemos que las constelaciones son agrupaciones fortuitas en el cielo que desaparecen al considerar las distancias de las estrellas. Aun así, no deja de ser curioso que junto a Orión, lugar de profuso nacimiento de estrellas, se encuentre Betelgeuse, una estrella cercana a su muerte.
Betelgeuse es en cierta forma una estrella joven y vieja a la vez. Se estima que nació hace unos 10 millones de años, mucho después que el Sol, quien tiene 4.500 millones de años de edad. Pero, al tratarse de una estrella de mucho mayor masa que el Sol, la vida de Betelgeuse es mucho mas corta, al punto que le quedan por delante menos de un millón de años, y tal vez tan sólo poco mas de mil.
Las estrellas pasan la mayor parte de su vida brillando al generar energía transformando en su centro hidrógeno en helio. La energía así generada sirve para mantener caliente el gas de la estrella y, por la presión asociada a la alta temperatura, compensar a la tendencia por contraerse debido a la fuerza de gravedad, es decir bajo su propio peso. El Sol se encuentra en esta fase de su vida y durará así otros cinco mil millones de años. En estrellas mas masivas, como Betelgeuse, el hidrógeno sólo permite mantener su mayor luminosidad unos diez millones de años. Cuando el hidrógeno se agota en el centro de la estrella, esta parte se contrae mientras que las capas externas de la estrella se expanden. La contracción del núcleo se detiene al alcanzar una temperatura de 170 millones de grados, permitiendo que el helio sirva ahora como combustible al transmutarse en carbono. Se sabe que Betelgeuse ya vivó diez millones de años transformando hidrógeno en helio y que se halla en la segunda parte de su vida, transformando helio en carbono. Este proceso dura un millón de años aproximadamente.
Betelgeuse es lo que se conoce como una estrella súper gigante roja. Sus dimensiones son tales que situada en el lugar del Sol tendría a Mercurio, Venus, la Tierra, Marte y a Júpiter en su interior. Su color rojo se debe a la baja temperatura de sus capas externas: tres mil grados, mientras que el Sol está a una cinco mil quinientos. Sin embargo, su parte externa tenue y fría esconde un núcleo pequeño, denso y extremadamente caliente, donde el helio es transformado en carbono. No sabemos que tanto helio le queda en reserva a Betelgeuse. Podría ser suficiente para un millón de años, cuando mucho. Al terminarse el helio, la estrella brilla otros mil años transformando carbono en neón; posteriormente emplea el neón como combustible durante siete años; después oxígeno durante un año, y finalmente, como último recurso, transforma silicón en hierro durante la última semana de su existencia. Cuando la estrella haya agotado todos sus recursos energéticos, explotará con el brillo de miles de millones de soles en uno de los eventos mas violentos del Universo: una supernova (Síntesis, 14 de enero 1997).
Qué sucederá cuando explote Betelgeuse? A una distancia de trescientos años-luz del Sol, Betelgeuse es una estrella relativamente cercana y su muerte como supernova será un evento espectacular. Se calcula que en la primera semana después de la explosión, su brillo en el cielo alcanzará una magnitud entre -12 y -14, mas brillante que cualquier supernova que se tenga registro histórico, e incluso mas brillante que la Luna llena. Posteriormente ira perdiendo brillo pero seguirá siendo mas brillante que cualquier estrella en el cielo, excepto el Sol, por lo menos durante seis meses. Aproximadamente un año después de la explosión Betelgeuse dejará de ser visible a simple vista. Probablemente quedará como resto de este estrella un poderoso pulsar que será por décadas o siglos la fuente de radio, rayos X y rayos gamma mas intensa del cielo.
En nuestra galaxia explota una supernova cada treinta años, aproximadamente, la mayoría de ellas cerca del centro de la Galaxia, donde no podemos verlas. La última explosión de este tipo fue en octubre de 1604 y todo nuestro conocimiento sobre este fenómeno se basa en supernovas observadas a millones de años-luz de distancia. Al imaginarnos que sucedería si una súper gigante roja cercana explotara, podemos comprender porqué tantos científicos quisieran poder ver el espectacular final de Betelgeuse.
Beta Ori (b Ori Rigel) es la estrella más brillante de esta Constelación con magnitud 0,12 y la sexta estrella más brillante de todo el cielo. Es una supergigante azul que está situada a una distancia de unos 1.200 años luz y que tiene un tamaño 70 veces el Solar. También es una doble con una compañera de magnitud 6,8 que a pesar de estar separada por 9,5" de arco es difícil de ver con pequeños telescopios por el propio brillo de la principal.
Rigel (19 Beta Orionis):Coordenadas: 5h 14.538m RA y -8° 12.100' Dec. Esta estrella es una supergigante blanco-azulada (tipo espectral B8Ia) , con un brillo de magnitud 1,9, cuya distancia está estimada en unos 900 años luz. Tiene unas dimensiones 40 veces superiores a la del Sol y su luminosidad real es unas 57.000 veces mayor. Esta estrella tiene una compañera de magnitud 6,7, sin embargo, es necesario un telescopio de 150mm de apertura para poder separar las dos estrellas.
Gamma Ori (g Ori Bellatrix) es una gigante de color blanco azulado con un diámetro equivalente a 6 veces el solar y de magnitud 1,64. Se encuentra a una distancia de unos 1.200 años luz y tiene un brillo equivalente a 6.400 veces el del Sol. Es una de las estrellas más calientes que se pueden ver a simple vista y dentro de unos pocos millones de años se convertirá en una gigante naranja para después pasar a ser una enana blanca.
Kappa Ori (k Ori Saiph)esta estrella blanco azulada de magnitud 2,06 es al igual que Bellatrix una de las estrellas más calientes que podemos ver a simple vista. Se encuentra a una distancia de unos 720 años luz y a pesar de ser una supergigante como Rigel y encontrarse aproximadamente a la misma distancia, no brilla de la misma manera porque su alta temperatura hace que una buena parte de su luz esté en la banda ultravioleta, que es invisible para nosotros.
Delta Ori (d Ori Mintaka)es la estrella más débil de "Las tres Marías" con magnitud 2,23. Es una gigante azul con una masa equivalente a 20 veces la del Sol y que se encuentra a una distancia aproximada de unos 1.200 años luz. También es una doble con una compañera de magnitud 6,3 separada por 52,6" de arco. Su componente principal también es doble con otra compañera de magnitud 14 que la orbita cada 5,73 días.
Mintaka (34 Delta Orionis): Coordenadas: 5h 32.007m RA y 0° 17.950' Dec. La más occidental del trío que forma el cinturón de Orión, esta estrella blanca (tipo espectral O9.5II) de magnitud 2,2 brilla justo al sur del ecuador celeste. A Mintaka le acompaña una estrella azul de magnitud 6,7, visible a 52 segundos de arco al norte de la misma.
Epsilon Ori (e Ori Alnilam)es la estrella central del cinturón de Orión y la más brillante de "Las tres Marías" con magnitud 1,7. Es una supergigante de color azul muy brillante (aproximadamente 375.000 veces más que el Sol) que se encuentra a una distancia de unos 1.200 años luz. Con una masa equivalente a 40 veces la del Sol, está joven estrella de sólo unos 4 millones de años de edad acabará convirtiéndose en una supergigante similar a Betelgeuse para posteriormente explotar y terminar sus días como una estrella de neutrones.
Zeta Ori (z Ori Alnitak)es una supergigante de color azul y de magnitud 2,05 que se encuentra a una distancia de unos 1.200 años luz. Está envuelta en una nube de gas y polvo donde se puede ver la famosa nebulosa "Cabeza de Caballo" (B33). Esta estrella es en realidad un sistema triple: Tiene una compañera B de magnitud 4 separada por 2,4" de arco, y otra C de magnitud 9,9 a 58" de arco. A pesar de tener una edad de sólo 6 millones de años, la rapidez con la que está gastando su hidrógeno hace que actualmente esté cambiando a la fase en la que quemará helio, convirtiéndose en una supergigante roja para posteriormente explotar y terminar sus días como una estrella de neutrones.
En el centro de la constelación se encuentran 3 brillantes estrellas (Alnitak, Alnilam y Mintaka) llamadas popularmente "las tres Marías", que forman el cinturón del cazador que representa.
Orión es, sin duda alguna, la constelación más impresionante del cielo. A mitad de enero culmina hacia las 22 h, hora local. Los observadores situados en el ecuador la ven entonces en el cenit. El ángulo superior izquierdo de la fotografía presenta densos campos estelares: el plano galáctico pasa cerca. En Orión se encuentran varios objetos interesantes y famosos, como la Gran Nebulosa de Orión M 42/43 y la Nebulosa Cabeza de Caballo (en IC 434). La estrella más brillante es Rigel (Beta Orión), visible abajo a la derecha. Lo habitual es dar nombres a las estrellas de una constelación siguiendo el orden de intensidad, pero aquí es Betelgeuse, la segunda en brillo, la que recibe el nombre de Alpha Orión (arriba a la izquierda, en el 'hombro' de Orión).

Cúmulos estelares asociados a la Nebulosa de Orión
Hay ocho clusters estelares asociados a la region de la nebulosa de Orión. Esta incluye el cluster 'Trapezium' que es el responsable de la iluminación de la nebulosa Orión o M42. Uno de los clusters en la lista - NGC 2232 - esta a 300 años luz de la nebulosa pero quizas se alla formado tambien alli, es lo suficientemente antigua como para haber recorrido esa distancia.

M42 (NGC 1976) es la más famosa nebulosa del cielo, conocida popularmente como "La Gran Nebulosa de Orion". Descubierta en 1610 por Nicholas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc y catalogada por Messier el 4 de Marzo de 1769, es uno de los objetos más espectaculares que se pueden ver con un pequeño telescopio. Se trata de una nebulosa de emisión y reflexión formada por nubes de gas y polvo en la que se están formando nuevas estrellas. Con un pequeño telescopio la vemos como una nube azulada en cuyo centro podemos encontrar a 3 estrellas alineadas que corresponden a Theta 2 Ori, y a 4 estrellas que forman un conjunto múltiple (Theta 1 Ori) conocido como "El Trapecio" y que es fácil de desdoblar con cualquier telescopio. En 1880 se le hizo la primera fotografía y desde entonces es uno de los objetos más fotografiados del cielo. Se encuentra a una distancia de unos 1600 años luz, siendo su tamaño angular de unos 90x60' de arco que equivalen a un tamaño real de más de 30 años luz.
M43 (NGC 1982) está considerada como una parte de M42. Fue descubierta por Jean-Jacques Dortous de Mairan en 1733 y catalogada por Messier el 4 de Marzo de 1769. Tiene las mismas características que M42, pero tanto su tamaño de 20x15', como su magnitud 9, la hace mucho menos espectacular que su compañera. En el centro de esta nebulosa podemos encontrar fácilmente a Nu Ori, una estrella que varía su magnitud entre 6,5 y 7,6.
M78 (NGC 2068) es una nebulosa de reflexión que pertenece al mismo complejo de nebulosidad que M42 y M43, y que por lo tanto se encuentra a la misma distancia (unos 1.600 años luz). Por su tamaño angular de 8x6' se le calcula un tamaño real de unos 4 años luz. Al igual que sus compañeras está formada por nubes de polvo y gas que reflejan la brillante luz azulada de sus jóvenes estrellas. Si miramos esta nebulosa con un telescopio de mediana potencia podemos ver en el mismo campo visual a otras 4 nebulosas: NGC 2024, NGC 2064, NGC 2067 y NGC 2071.
NGC 1662 es un cúmulo abierto bastante pobre con un tamaño de 20' de arco y magnitud 6,4. Está compuesto por una decena de estrellas entre magnitud 9 y 11 entre las que se puede encontrar la doble HJ 684 cuyos componentes tienen magnitudes 9 y 10,7 estando separadas por 24,2" de arco.
NGC 1981 es un cúmulo abierto bastante disperso, fácil de encontrar al norte de M42 y compuesto por una veintena de estrellas que van desde magnitud 7 a magnitud 11. Su tamaño es de 25' de arco, su magnitud es de 4,2 y se encuentra a una distancia aproximada de unos 1.300 años luz. Entre sus estrellas nos encontramos con una doble (STF 743) cuyos componentes tienen magnitudes 7,74 y 8,25 estando separadas por sólo 1,8" de arco.
NGC 2169 es un pequeño cúmulo abierto de sólo 7' de arco de tamaño y magnitud 5,9. Está compuesto por unas 30 estrellas entre las que se pueden encontrar 2 dobles: STF 848 con magnitudes 6,93 y 7,83 y una separación de 2,4" y STF 844 con magnitudes 8.8 y 9,6 y una separación de 23,7". Se encuentra a una distancia de unos 3.600 años luz y se le calcula una edad unos 50 millones de años.
NGC 2175 es un cúmulo abierto de 22' de tamaño y magnitud 6,8. Contiene unas 60 estrellas a partir de magnitud 8. Se encuentra a una distancia de unos 6.400 años luz y se le calcula una edad sólo 1 millón de años.

Introduction
One of the imperatives in Christian mythology is the belief that the world as we know it will end someday. God will overthrow the forces of evil and all who side with them, and only those who repent and follow Jesus’ teachings will be allowed to enter the new Kingdom of God. Jesus and Paul mention it often and the Book of Revelation is devoted to it.
Many passages attest that Jesus expected the end of the world to come in his time, not thousands of years later. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus refers to some mysterious Son of man, a cosmic judge sent from heaven who would destroy whoever opposes God and reward those who are faithful.
Who this Son of man? The popular claim has it that Jesus was referring to himself in the third person. It’s plausible because many passages fit the course of Jesus’ ministry. What is suspicious about this rationale is that Jesus appears to be describing someone else.
38For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." 1And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power." (Mark 8:38-9:1)
I submit that Christian reasoning is entirely wrong. When Christians read the predictions of the end of the world, they are waiting for events to unfold on earth. Even after 2,000 years of false alarms, they have not lost patience, and I don’t know if they will ever admit that maybe they are misreading the New Testament.
Such a calamity cannot happen as the Bible predicts. Something on that scale would take an event like a large meteor to hit earth. In such a case, a meteor would not care who is faithful to Jesus. If there was a nuclear war, bombs would be guided by human stupidity, not divine intelligence. If any other catastrophe happens on that scale, earth would not be a very pleasant place for the survivors. Whatever the cause of mass destruction, faith will not protect anybody. Even worse, if the entire world was destroyed, as devout Christians believe, there would be no survivors.
What confuses modern readers is the way the Bible’s writers coded their belief in the power of the stars as if they affected life on earth. The matter before us is to decipher their writings for what they meant to ancients, not to what modern believers want to believe.
For this reason, we will examine the Bible from an astronomical point of view. It was a time when ancients perceived the stars in heaven as patterns to be interpreted as God’s divine plan for life on earth. The sun was especially important to them because they understood that life on earth depended on it.
There are three clues which clarify what they were writing about. The first describes the Son of man as the constellation Orion. The second relates the yearly sun cycle to the end of the world. The third tracks Orion with the sun cycle. There can be no other conclusion except that the idea of a supernatural God was conceived as a ruse to mislead faithful Christians.
The Son of man
Three passages define the Son of man in physical form.
The first appears in the apocalyptic writings of the Book of Daniel, where Daniel describes the Son of man as riding on the clouds of heaven to the “Ancient of days” to give him everlasting dominion over the new kingdom of heaven.
13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of mancame with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. (Dan. 7:13-14)
Revelation’s description of the Son of man fits the pattern of stars in the constellation Orion. The star on his right shoulder is bright red (upper left star). The three stars at his waste were later seen as the three wise men who announced the birth of Jesus.
12Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast; 14his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, 15his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters; 16in his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth issued a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. (Rev. 1:12-20)
The Son of man has a cluster of stars in the background that look like the clouds upon which the Son of man rides. Astronomical maps show the Milky Way behind the constellation Orion. From earth, they look like clouds.
14And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. (Rev. 14:14-20)

Orion as seen in human form. His right hand could be holding a sickle or a club. His left hand could be holding an animal skin, a shield or a bow. The Milky Way is behind him. The arc above him represents the sun’s path. The line going through his waste is the celestial equator which runs parallel to earth’s equator.
Orion's legacy
After the Big Dipper, Orion is perhaps the next most celebrated constellation in the winter sky. Mythologies about Orion probably originated from the Egyptians thousands of years ago and extended to the Greeks at the turn of the first century. It is a very important constellation to astral religions and easy to recognize.
To the ancient Egyptians, Orion was Osiris the God of Light. Set was Orisis’ brother and the God of Darkness. According to legend, Orisis was murdered by his evil brother Set, who tore his body into pieces and scattered the fragments. Isis, Osiris’ wife, managed to put him back together except for his phallus, which had been swallowed by a fish. She made an artificial phallus and breathed into his body to restore his soul. Thereafter, he rose to the sky.
In one period, Orion represented the Egyptian god of the dead and the first king of Egypt. After death, the pharaoh was thought to mystically inseminate the stars to ensure that, through Osiris, Horus the sun god would be reborn as his successor.
In one Greek myth, Orion was the son of Neptune and the nymph Euryale. He was of gigantic size, strength and beauty. He was so tall that he could walk through deep water without wetting his head. His hubris invoked Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth to send a scorpion to kill him. His fall to earth can be seen when the stars of Orion sink defeated below the western horizon and the stars of Scorpion are just rising in the east.
The next night he rises again, saved by Ophiuchus, the Doctor of Antiquity who gave him an antidote for the scorpions poison. This can be seen when the Scorpion sets in the southwest with Ophiuchus standing over him as a symbol of the antidote. Later, when Ophiuchus sets in the west, Orion comes up from the east, fully recovered.
In these myths alone we see fragments of Christian mythology. Gods die and are restored to life. They are given a soul by being breathed into and they fall to earth as Adam did. The scorpion brings death as Judas did to Jesus. There is the eternal conflict between light and dark. (See Light verses Dark)
The timing of Orion’s cycle fits with the birth of Jesus on December 25. It makes its first appearance in the east in mid December each year. And as the season progresses, Orion rises with the sun and sets in the west three days before it rises in the east again.
With the sun personified as Jesus, it is accurate to think of Orion as a constellation in synch with the sun’s cycle. In a sense they are like conjoined twins who suffer the same fate. This is why the confusion about whether Jesus is referring to himself as the Son of Man in the third person or whether the Son of Man is some cosmic judge.
The sun cycle
In allegorical language, the sun goes through four seasonal cycles. It is born on December 25 when daylight hours start to increase. At about this same time Orion rises in the east with its three belt stars as the three wise men. As Orion rises, the star Sirius ascends above the horizon as the star of Bethlehem. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
The powers of darkness are still in power, but as the daylight hours increase, it is seen as overcoming the forces that try to stop it. In the Gospels, this is when Jesus is born and when his parents take him away to keep Herod from killing him.
At the spring equinox it has entered the gates of heaven when daylight hours start to emerge more powerful than the dark evil forces. Jesus’ mission starts in the spring when he collects his disciples and builds a following.
At the summer solstice, when the sun is the highest in the sky, the sun is on its throne. In the following summer months, as the sun descends, it is still strong, but it is weakening as the dark forces start to make war against it. To show his strength, Jesus performs miracles and exorcises demons. At this time Orion is at the height of its ascent.
When the sun passes through the fall equinox, it enters the gates to hell. Night time hours start to lengthen and the dark forces are said to be fighting their way back to power. The sun continues to weaken until it dies for three days following December 21. This is when Jesus is betrayed by Judas and is taken to trial and executed. Allegorically, this is the end of the world.
On December 25, the sun is resurrected and the cycle repeats.
This cycle is not unique to Christianity; it plays out through the mythologies of resurrected gods. It was the age of fable when the constellations were assigned the names of gods. There was Hercules who died on his twelfth labor like Jesus. There is Jason and the Argonauts with their ship Argo, reminiscent of Noah’s ark. The constellation Perseus holding the head of Medusa looks like David holding the head of Goliath. There are creation myths, supreme gods who mate with virgins, giants, serpents and a host of other characters like those in the Bible.
The Bible cannot be understood by those who are so blinded with faith that they keep their heads buried in the ground trying to make historical sense out of it. Look up to the sky. biblical Omens
In Mark chapter 13, there is an allegorical summary of the astronomical omens that lead to the end of the world. They start when the sun is at full power at its highest position on the horizon to when it descends to its death at the lowest position.
1. When the sun is at the summer solstice in Gemini, Jesus predicted that some day the temple will be destroyed. His disciples wanted to know what sign they should look for to know when this event will happen. In biblespeak, “sign” denotes astrological signs.
1And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!" 2And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down." 3And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 4"Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished?" (Mark 13:1-4)
2. After the sun passes the high point of the summer solstice it descends lower with each passing day. Allegorically, the sun is weakening because the dark forces of evil are said to waging war against it. The wars are just beginning.
The sun starts to descend in the house of Cancer. It is usually a time of hesitation, so Jesus warns what to expect and not to be alarmed.
7And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is not yet. 8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs. 9"But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them. (Mark 13:7-8)
3. The wars between light and dark intensify as the days get shorter. The sun is still strong, but the forces of evil are gaining power.
The house of Leo brings strength from the new harvest. So Jesus says to be strong against adversity and you will be saved.
11And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; 13and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. 14"But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; (Mark 13:11-14)
4. Virgo is the last house before the sun descends into hell—Virgo is described as a nursing mother. There is no turning back.
15let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything away; 16and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle. 17And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck[Virgo] in those days! (Mark 13:15-17)
5. The sun has passed the fall equinox into Scorpio. The days are getting progressively shorter than the nights. According to Jesus, if the days did not get shorter, no one could be saved, so God shortened the days. Pray that the sign doesn’t happen in winter because it is the worst of times. If the days are still getting shorter and someone says the Christ has come, do not believe them. It is not the right time.
18Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be. 20And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. 21And then if any one says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it. 22False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23But take heed; I have told you all things beforehand. (Mark 13:18-23)
6. The sun is in Sagittarius as the sun descends to its lowest point on the horizon. On the darkest days of the winter when the moon does not give light, the Son of man will come in clouds. The Son of man in clouds can be seen in the picture above. Below, the next frame shows the son of men descending on December 21.
24"But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. (Mark 13:24-27)
7. You will know he is near the gates to heaven (the spring equinox) when fig trees start to grow leaves.
28"From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. (Mark 13:28-29)
8. This generation will see these things take place. —He means his generation.
30Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place. 31Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Mark 13:30-31)
In the first century on December 21 at midnight, when the sun is darkened and the moon does not give up its light, the Son of man can be seen descending to earth. A month later it disappears from view.
Orion ascends in the east three days after its disappearance in the west.
The Gospel Son of man
The Gospel’s language is deceptive. Its language allegorizes Jesus as the sun’s yearly trek around the zodiac constellations. Orion is not one of the twelve zodiac constellations, but its path shadows the sun cycle. It is high in the sky when the sun is high and low when the sun is low. So when Jesus mentions the Son of man, he is referring to his Spirit as symbolized by Orion. The reasons are explained in Jesus' Ghost
Orion plays another important role as the three men who come to visit Jesus. Orion has a narrow waist with three stars. At the beginning of the year, the three stars point down to the star of Bethlehem, otherwise known as Sirius. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
Matthew gives the most detailed account of the Son of Man. The passages below follow a sequence according the zodiacal time of the year Jesus is speaking. Armed with our knowledge of Orion and the sun cycle, we can see what Jesus is talking about.
Aries
That the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head, means that Orion is not one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac.
20And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head." (Matt. 8:20)
The Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins.
6But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--he then said to the paralytic --"Rise, take up your bed and go home." (Matt. 9:6, Mk. 2:10)
Psalm 8 explains what Jesus meant about the Son of man having authority on earth. God made him a little less than God, but gave him dominion over his works. Gemini, by the way, hangs over Orion like a crown.
3When I look at thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which thou hast established; 4what is man that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man that thou dost care for him? 5Yet thou hast made him little less than God, and dost crown him with glory and honor. 6Thou hast given him dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet, 7all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the sea. (Ps. 8:3-8)
Taurus
Israel had 12 towns beginning with “Beth”, meaning “house of”. Each symbolized a house of the Zodiac. Orion has to go through all twelve houses before the time comes.
23When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel, before the Son of man comes. (Matt. 10:23)
When Orion was seen in full view near the sun, he is said to be a glutton and drunkard.
19the Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds." (Matt. 11:19)
As the sun passes through Gemini it crosses over Orion’s head. This is the time when the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.
Gemini
Orion’s position above the sun at the summer solstice, gave rise to his being called lord of the Sabbath.
8For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath." (Matt. 12:8, Mk. 2:28)
32And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. (Matt. 12:32)
Cancer
In the last days of December, Orion disappears for three days. Similarly, there is darkness in the belly of the whale.
40For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matt. 12:40)
Leo
The sons of the kingdom are the six constellations of spring and summer. The sons of the evil one are the six constellations of autumn and winter. The close of the age comes when the sun is at the lowest point of its descent. When the sun begins its ascent, the evil weeds will be burned with the heat from the sun’s rays. When the sun is in the spring and summer months, the righteous will shine.
37He answered, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; 38the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. 41The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, 42and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. 43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. (Matt. 13:37-43)
Virgo
Jesus denies that he is the Son of man. Peter calls him the Son of the living God which translates to Jesus as the sun of the living God.
13Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?" 14And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Matt. 16:13-16)
Libra
Libra is the time when the sun descends below the equator into the evil dark months. It is a time for settling debts. On several occasions Jesus predicted his astrological demise.
Jesus reiterates about the Son of man will come in the lifetime of his followers. It means simply, that it is a once a year event.
27For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done. 28Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." (Matt. 16:27-28)
“Coming down the mountain” means that the sun has descended past the fall equinox. Elijah will come as John the Baptist seen as the man pouring water in the constellation Aquarius. This will not happen until Orion rises from the east.
9And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead." 10And the disciples asked him, "Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?" 11He replied, "Elijah does come, and he is to restore all things; 12but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their hands." (Matt. 17:9-12)
When the sun descends below the equator into the dark days, it is said to be delivered to the enemy. There is nothing new about constellations disappearing for three days; it happens every day. As earth rotates, the stars appear to be moving westerly until they dip below the horizon. Three days later they reappear in the eastern horizon.
22As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men, 23and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day." And they were greatly distressed. (Matt. 17:22-23)
Gemini looks like a crown above Orion’s head. So it is on its throne on June 21, when the sun is at its highest point on the horizon in Gemini. Orion is “judging” in whatever constellation it happens to be in. Historically, Israel’s twelve tribes weren’t formed by bloodline. The familiar Greek zodiac names had Hebrew counterparts. 28Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Matt. 19:28)
Jesus foresees the astrological fate of his Spirit at the end of the year. His entry into Jerusalem represents the final phase in the sun’s descent.
18"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, 19and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day." (Matt. 20:18-19)
The sun serves humankind with its light. When the sun dies, Orion as the sun’s Spirit brings life to many.
28even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Matt. 20:28)
Scorpio
Orion comes from the east and sets in the west. The Constellation Aquila the eagle is in the house of Scorpio. The sun’s descent into darkness is the time of tribulation. Orion will not appear until after there is full darkness. From then on the glory of the sun will rise again.
27For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man. 28Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together. 29"Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall [descend] from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken; 30then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory; 31and he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matt. 24:27-31)
Noah’s ark can be seen in the constellation Argo Navis. Argo is so large that contemporary charts break it down into Carina, Puppis and Vela. Its rising follows Orion by about a month.
37As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of man. 38For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39and they did not know until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of man. (Matt. 24:37-39)
Jesus may not know precisely what day or hour Orion will rise, but he knows it will ascend in the darkest days of the year—this does not translate into years or centuries. Orion will rise before the sun ascends from its three days of darkness.
40Then two men will be in the field; one is taken and one is left. 41Two women will be grinding at the mill; one is taken and one is left. 42Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. 44Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (Matt. 24:40-44)
When Orion is rising and the angels or angles of Aries pass the spring equinox, the sun will have passed Capricorn. When the sun passes Aries, the sun will be in its glory as the progressive daylight hours of spring exceed the night. At the sun’s apex, Orion will be on its throne.
31"When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels [angles] with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep [Aries] from the goats [Capricorn], 33and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. (Matt. 25:31-33)
Sagittarius
In the house of Aries (the Passover lamb), Orion will ascend across the spring equinox, where it will be crucified at the point where the sun’s path crosses the equator. The Christian cross represents the length of days at each cardinal point.
2"You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of man will be delivered up to be crucified." (Matt. 26:2)
Orion follows the path designated in the stars. It is said to be betrayed when it descends past the autumn equinox.
24The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born." (Matt. 26:24)
Orion was already betrayed. The sun will be betrayed next. This is the only passage where Jesus and the Son of man can be obviously seen as two different entities.
45Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand." (Matt. 26:45-46)
When facing north, Orion’s rising in the east can be seen as rising from the right. Orion appears in front of the Milky Way, which is seen as clouds.
63But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son [sun] of God." 64Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. (Matt. 26:63-64)
In Psalms when the sun dies in Sagittarius, Orion cannot be seen.
3Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no help. 4When his breath departs he returns to his earth; on that very day his plans perish. (Ps. 146:3-4)
Final thought
In biblespeak, the world ends when the sun dies. Three days later, the sun's Spirit represented by Orion brings The Three Wise Men and the Star of Bethlehem and the sun is born again. The Gospels tell a story of the sun’s travel through the Zodiac.
The phrase “new moon” has a similar legacy. Ancients believed that the moon died about every 28 days and was replaced by a new one.
The Holy Grail? Orion (Osiris/Arthur) as an overflowing grail chalice cup...the tarot has colum/dove near, like the sky map (see below)! The tarot 'ace of cups' also evokes the OTO insignia badge! Ace of Cups (W) W=23...Psalm (Palm/hand, see ace pic) 23...'Lord is my shepherd' & 'my cup runneth over' etc.
