Betelgeuse, también llamada α Orionis o HIP 27989, es una brillante supergigante roja en la constelación de Orión. Es la novena estrella más brillante en el cielo, y es un objeto intrínsecamente grande y luminoso, por tratarse de una supergigante roja. El color característico de esta estrella proviene de las bajas temperaturas de su superficie (unos 3000 K). El estado evolutivo de la estrella es avanzado: ha pasado ya la etapa más importante de su vida, la secuencia principal, agotado ya el combustible en su núcleo que le proporcionaba energía (por fusión del hidrógeno), después de lo cual aumentó su tamaño hasta las enormes dimensiones actuales. Sus variaciones de luminosidad son propias de su presente como estrella gigante.
Betelgeuse es una estrella supergigante, razón por la cual su brillo es tan elevado a pesar de tener una temperatura superficial relativamente baja. The Sirius Star System as the Source of Creation
Scientific, linguistic, and mythological evidence places the Sirius star system, Sirius A and Sirius B, at the origin of the creation.
Eastern and western mythological and religious traditions agree that a primal sound, a Word, is the origin of the creation. Quantum physics also agrees that vibration (sound) is the essence of all forms in the creation.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through Him, and without him was not anything made that was made.” – Bible, John 1:1
The Rig Veda and the Vedic Sanskrit tradition revealed long ago that this primal sound, this Word of God, is AUM.
OM and AUM are the same. In Vedic Sanskrit, O is the vowel combination AU.
The acoustics and mythology of the Sirius Star System will reveal the truth concerning this Word of God.
All celestial objects, including Sirius A and B, are moving in helical spirals, and generate tones and sounds.
With the computer’s help, we can hear the perfect harmony generated by the orbital sounds of our own planetary system, the harmony of the spheres, as predicted by Johannes Kepler in the sixteenth century. Kepler said:
“. . . we should not be surprised that men have discovered the beautiful, effective succession of tones in the musical modes, when we see that in doing so, they are imitating God’s work by bringing down to earth the sounds of the celestial motions.”

How is AUM generated by Sirius A and B, and how is it said correctly?
The three sounds and tones of AUM are generated by the individual orbits and double helical spiral shaped linear motion of Sirius A and B in the same way as the harmony of the orbital sounds of our planetary system, and happens in the following way.
1. The A is generated by Sirius B’s orbital motion, and is said like the a in America, uh, in the tone F. 2. The U is generated by Sirius A’s orbital motion, and is said like the u in tune in F#. 3. The M is generated by their combined double-helix linear motion, and is said in the tone G.
Their combined linear motion produces the nasalated M in the tone G, completing the three sounds and tones of AUM.

Because the orbits and double helical linear motion of Sirius A and B produce the three sounds and tones of AUM in the F, F#, G, tritone, the question arises:
Why the F, F#, G, Tritone?
The F, F#, G, tritone is the fabled quintessence of the alchemists, who said that this sound accompanies all creative processes, including, of course, the creation of the universe. They are correct. AUM is the quintessential creative sound, the Word of God that was in the beginning.
The F, F#, G, tritone of AUM is the creative sound that accompanies the miracles of:
A. Creation: AUM is the fractal sound pattern of the Big Bang. B. Cell division (mitosis): when the DNA makes a copy of itself and checks it for errors. C. Photosynthesis: when light becomes living matter.

From the single DNA molecule we all once were, our entire organism has unfolded by way of the F, F#, G, tritone of AUM.
Saying AUM correctly in the creative tritone induces resonance in the soft palate in the roof of our mouth, and transfers this resonance to our pineal gland, which sits directly above the soft palate.
The specific resonance induced by saying AUM in the F, F#, G, tritone, causes our pineal gland to secrete dimethyltryptamine into our blood. Dimethyltryptamine is a powerful mind-manifesting, visionary, and meditative substance.
Our pineal gland is known as our third eye, and is recognized as a connecting point between our physical and spiritual being. This sound resonance connection to our pineal gland was designed into our DNA by the Creator.
By saying AUM in the F, F#, G, tritone, we are creating the fractal sound formula of our own DNA, and consciously activating our pineal gland (our third eye) using sound resonance.
The miraculous and creative F, F#, G, tritone of AUM is the only sound ever banned by the Catholic Church, who declared it to be the diablos en musica, the devil in music.
Because AUM cannot be said correctly without using the tritone, the Catholic Church has in effect banned the Word of God.
When contacted, Catholic Church authorities were unable to explain or offer any reason. In any case, they do not want us to say the Word of God, and access the visionary consciousness that was designed into our being by the Creator.
What other evidence shows AUM coming from Sirius?
The classic iconic imagery of Asia has always shown AUM radiating from the star Sirius.

The Sanskrit word tara, meaning star is one of the Goddess’ thousand names, and applies specifically to Sirius, the brightest star. Tara is synonymous with AUM.
The Sanskrit-English Dictionary, Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1899, defines ‘tara‘ as 1. the mystic syllable AUM, and 2. star or asterism.
The Goddess, (Sirius A), is verybright. Her male counter-part, (Sirius B), is totally invisible without a telescope), and is also very heavy (he is the size of the Earth, but weighs as much as the Sun). He is the brightest X-ray source in the sky, and is known as the God who sees through everything.
Sometimes Shiv(a) is shown standing with AUM behind him. AUM is in fact, behind His image. He is an icon (eye-con) of AUM.
His first orbital movement caused the first sound in the progression of orbital movements and sounds that is AUM.
The name of the blue God in Sanskrit, is Shiv, meaning orbit, hem, or border, in reference to Sirius B’s orbit.
The Dogon people of Mali, West Africa know that Sirius B’s orbit is the source of creation.
Sirius A and Sirius B are the origin of the Yin and Yang symbol, they are the Yin and Yang. They are two parts of one thing, and the source of AUM, the sound that created the universe.
Far into pre-history, the religions and mythologies of the world have given divine status to Sirius A and Sirius B as the star forms of the God and Goddess. Sirius A as the Goddess, in red, and Sirius B as the God, in blue.
Sirius plays a large role in the life of Jesus. Sirius is known as the Morning Star. In the Bible, Jesus says, “I am the bright Morning Star.” Rev. 22:16. The Three Wise Men, the Magi of Persia, were followers of the star Sirius. Upon their arrival in Jerusalem to attend the birth of Jesus, the Magi said in court, “We have seen His Star in the east” Matthew 2:2.
Is Jesus Sirius? Does Jesus in some real way personify AUM, this Word of God in the sky? Jesus said he was the Alpha and Omega, the first and last sound. AHA.
AUM is also known to be the origin of the fifty sounds of the Vedic Sanskrit language. These fifty sounds are shown distributed throughout the Sri Yantra. Vedic Sanskrit is the language of the hymns of the Rig Veda, and is the visionary Mother Tongue of the planet.

Se llama Cirio Pascual a la vela que se consagra y enciende en la Vigilia Pascual en la liturgia católica de la noche del Sábado Santo; y es signo de Cristo resucitado, y su luz.
El cirio es renovado precisamente en esta ceremonia, sustituyéndose el del año anterior. Su tamaño puede variar, aunque ha de ser mayor que el de resto de velas del templo. Suele tener pintada una cruz en uno de sus lados.
El cirio se encendía con el fuego ultra caliente nuevo y también servía para la bendición de las fuentes bautismales. Otros atribuyen el origen del cirio pascual a las columnas de cera que Constantino mandaba encender la noche de Pascua y algunos, a la costumbre que había de escribir en un cirio bendito todas las fiestas movibles que dependían de la Pascua. ANCIENT STAR MAP EGYPT AND THE HUMAN ORIGIN BLUEPRINT CODE
THE SPHINX UNLOCKS THE ORIGINS OF HUMANITY
Wayne Herschel, an author in the field of archaeo-astronomy launched his book internationally in 2002, and believes he has found the forgotton 'forbidden' secret behind Egypt's enigmatic Sphinx.
It was a secret that was hidden over the ages due to it revealing the sacred and equality of all human races... a secret that would hardly sit well with countries obsessed in plundering foreign nations for their treasures and to enslave their people.
Existing theories to date suggest that the side profile of the Sphinx represents the stars of Leo. However they do not explain convincingly why its architects would have chosen this constellation for its template. Wayne Herschel, an explorer of ancient civilisations for the last 17 years, proposes an entirely new theory. In his book, 'The Hidden Records', he sets out to prove that the Sphinx is the key to unlocking the secret behind a grand unified '50 pyramid' star map.
In 1995 author R. Bauval suggested that the three pyramids at Giza represented the three stars of Orion's 'belt'. However because his theory did not find a way to incorporate the entire field of pyramids, let alone the Sphinx, academics had difficulty accepting it.
In 2003 Wayne Herschel published his cosmic interpretation of the Sphinx which helped him interpret the pyramids in a completely new way. He discovered that the angle at which the Sphinx intersects the collective three Giza pyramids on the ground, is virtually identical to the angle at which the brightest star of Leo, aligns with the collective row of stars that form Orion's 'belt'. Here are the critical clues in reasoning the theory. The Sphinx appears to have its stare fixed on the rising stars each night (not just the rising Sun). Then at a very unique moment in the night sky, the Sphinx watches its mirror image of itself rising in a perfectly upright stance as Leo.
It is here where the Sphinx is literally crying out:
"All the pyramids in Lower Egypt represent a ring of adjoining constellations around the Earth, and the secret of the star map begins here at my feet with Leo."
But there is more to the secret of the Sphinx merely telling us that all the pyramids reproduce a string of constellations. It is also the key to deciphering the pyramid mystery itself. It is showing the observer where to begin in cracking the mystery of the star map, urging one to follow the three star alignment direction of Orion's 'belt' as a 'cosmic signpost' to what seems to be the ultimate star.
Herschel's idea that the whole pyramid field in Lower Egypt represents stars was inspired by one of the oldest known prophecies. The mystic Hermes Trismegistus. claimed:
"Egypt is an image of the heavens… the 'whole' cosmos dwells here.
"Herschel subsequently conducted an experiment to prove all the pyramids in Lower Egypt represent stars. He overlaid a transparency of the stars onto a map of the pyramids. The result was breathtaking. All the brightest stars within the known constellations were represented in one complete 360 degree ring along side the Milky Way (which is also a ring around the Earth). All the brightest stars had all the pyramid counterparts on the ground. The star map started with the brightest star in the night sky Sirius... logical to start with one could say... and it has one star that is different to all the other 49 bright stars in the complete star map. It has this unique star set at the exact centre of the pyramid field... is this the 'x' that marks the spot? Logic again would suggest!
However, there were some important stars for which pyramids were apparently missing. In Giza for example, Herschel found four potential, as yet unrecognised pyramid ruins on an antique early map that would conclude a previously incomplete Orion interpretation at Giza.

One finding would lead to another. Not only were his new correlations 'mirror images', but the pyramids were virtually divided into two separate layout scales on each side of the area of Abusir, thus providing another clue. It seems the Solar Temple obelisk was intentionally placed exactly at the epicentre of the pyramid field. What could this mean?
The giant obelisk was most likely the only ever gold capped monument. Perhaps to highlight that it was more important than any other. At last the meaning of the star map becomes clear.
Do we have the proverbial 'x' that marks the spot?
Does it provide the reason that would have prompted the ancients to design their star map using giant structures in the first place? One thing is certain, the star seems to be of paramount importance as the place in the heavens that the three Orion 'belt' stars align with.
The ancient Egyptians revered a Sun... but it was not our OUR Sun! Astronomers can confirm that the Solar Temple obelisk is the only monument in the entire pyramid field to emulate a 'Sun-like' star (Ref HD 283271 'G' spectrum) and it is relatively nearby.
Here is the full measurement of the Sun-like star The correlation only occurred at its most precise position 17 250 years ago, perhaps documenting the dawning of humanity. All the other pyramids match bright stars that are nothing like our Sun. Herschel suggests the 'Sun' Temple was named after a 'Sun'-like star and has nothing to do with our Sun at all.

There are two independent layout scales on each side of the Sun Temple 'x' that marks the spot, located at the exact centre of the pyramid field. it is as if the ancients are saying as they do in all their ancient murals ... "look at the centre of the murals to see that which is most important. They did it with the Zodiac disc at Dendera.. they did it in the Senmut tomb... they did it in every important depiction involving the secrets of their star gods! The author is convinced that the reason for the pyramid star map was to isolate the 'star of the gods'. He believes it presents a whole new theory of who we are and where we come from.
To add fuel to the fire, Herschel believes that he has found evidence of a repeating geometric blueprint of the human form within other ancient pyramid and megalithic star map representations found across the globe.
The geometric blueprint is unique only to the human form and is identical to the original geometric man codex documented by a Roman engineer and writer, Marcus Vitruvius, who lived 25 years before the birth of Christ.
Leonardo Da Vinci has acceded to fame for his Vitruvian man, however few realise he reproduced it from an ancient manuscript. Da Vinci did not show the raised arms as you see here, but chose to reposition the arms where the square touches the circle.
He may have chosen to depict his version like he did to avoid the same fate that the German scholar, Agrippa (who lived at the same time as Da Vinci), faced for duplicating Vitruvius' work as seen in the image above. Agrippa died a horrific death. He was burned at the stake.
Without digressing too much, it is worth considering a few very important 'what if' scenarios.
One would naturally expect that if the star maps are true then why doesn't the Christ story mention it?
If what was encapsulated in the representation of the human form by Agrippa and Da Vinci had relevance to these star maps, why did Christ make no mention of this? It is indeed a very sensitive question and is currently open to debate on the author's website. There are many sources of early translations of the gospels that include references to the star associated with Christ's birth and other stars, such as Orion and the Pleiades. There is also a lot more being debated than this.
For starters, the meaning of 'Sang-real' has been rumoured to mean 'sacred lineage'.
What if the Holy Grail is real and contains an inscribed record of who we are and where we come? For arguments sake let us assume that it does. What if the ultimate secret was given to Judas by Christ (as the Judas codex seems to suggest) on a beautiful metal plate that was uniquely inscribed? (Wayne Herschel has a strong feeling that in Renaissance art this metal plate is shown symbolically behind Christ's head). If one refers to the recently discovered Judas gospel, one could even conclude that there is a chance Judas may have been captured by the Roman authorities with this artefact that was to become known as the grail in his possession. If this hypothetical scenario does indeed prove to be true, then one would have to ask whether the Roman authorities murdered him to cover up the existence of this amazing artefact, and more specifically its contents.
Perhaps we are approaching a new renaissance age in which humankind will begin to question its true origins? It seems likely now that Vitruvius was not the first person to portray the human form in this unique way.
In his book, 'The Hidden Records', Herschel goes to great lengths in detailing the snowball effect of his story. He claims confidently that the geometry of the human blueprint is a code that fits accurately into the layout at Giza, as well as that of Stonehenge, and last but not least in the layout of the most controversial place of all. In the layout of what are perceived to be pyramids in an area researchers call 'Cydonia'.
In later years it appears this geometry of the 'human code' was also encrypted in the paintings of Leonardo Da Vinci and of his contemporary, Nicolas Poussin.
It may sound completely fabricated and fictional having such a vast collection of coincidences here, but in light of the importance of the claims, the author has made his fundamental research freely available for all to see. In summary, the author believes that by encrypting the human form in ancient pyramid star maps in this unique way (a code that later made its reappearance in the paintings of the Renaissance era) the ancients appear to show us that the human lineage is 'divine' so to speak and from above.
Coincidently the recent Judas gospel codex discovery makes another earth shattering claim, the significance of which seems to have eluded most observers. Christ beckons Judas to look at the night sky and says to him:
"Follow the star above… it is also your star".
If the star maps are truly genuine, surely someone with a mission as unique as that of Christ would have wanted to pass on to humanity this extraordinary piece of knowledge, even if it was not ready for his time. He probably would want it to be revealed in the future at a time when it was safer to debate such a 'provocative' version of humankind's genesis.
In time, the star maps and human code theory may well challenge the mystery of the 'missing link', which academics on evolution are still grappling with to this very day. Perhaps human beings evolved elsewhere in our vast universe, replacing Neanderthal after arriving here on Earth.
The author has taken his Egyptian star chart template and has tested it on Stonehenge in the UK, Angkor in Cambodia, Tikal in Guatemala and on a nearby planet rumoured to have pyramid ruins. The results delineated on the internet and in great detail in his book speak for themselves.
So… at the end of the day, what does all this new material offer humanity?
A clear message is decipherable in three of the most conclusive cases of the star maps. They all appear to display the unique human blueprint geometry code. A pictographic story can be interpreted in relation to the star pattern.
Herschel believes its meaning is paramount in uniting all of humanity as one if the star map 'message' is true. Once we step back and review the original sources of great teachings from those that came from above, the truth emerges. It speaks clearly of the place of Creation of the universe, which has been told to humanity in many different lands, and sadly it has 'evolved' in every case, into very disparate interpretations that we call 'religion'.
The original sources of sacred texts must be given priority for true meaning. It is here where we have the chance of uniting humanity in one truth and understanding of a gentle Creator of the universe who has given us the gift of life. Our confusion about what we believe is fast manifesting itself in an ugly religious war that is playing out right now. Is it a coincidence that for the first time ever missiles are landing at a historical site near the northern boarder of Israel known as the valley of Meggiddo? It is here that prophecy has written where we will fight our last war.
If there is just a hint of truth in Wayne Herschel's collection of ancient star maps and his theory on the human blueprint, it should be reason enough for scholars to test it.
And if there is one crucial question that still remains unanswered it has to be: Who is the cosmic message intended for?

Los godos eran uno de los grupos pertenecientes a los pueblos germánicos orientales y una de las muchas tribus del otro lado de la frontera oriental a las que los romanos llamaban bárbaras o germánicas. Probablemente su origen esté en Götaland, lo que es hoy el sur de Suecia, aunque para algunos autores su origen es báltico, pero no de la península escandinava. Eran uno de los pueblos germánicos originarios de Escandinavia que al expandirse por media Europa amenazaron el poder del Imperio romano. Durante el siglo III se dividieron en dos tribus independientes: los greutungos y los tervingios. Ambas mantuvieron contactos y alianzas puntuales. Se han encontrado muchos restos de los godos en la actual Polonia, donde permanecieron durante siglos[1] y llegarían hasta las llanuras de Ucrania.
En el siglo III, tras haber partido desde su lugar de origen al sur de la actual Suecia, los godos avanzaron hacia el Sur, siguiendo el curso del Vístula para luego penetrar por las llanuras danubianas hasta las orillas septentrionales del mar Negro.
En su larga migración, dejaron tras de sí a numerosos pueblos afines (los esciros y los gépidos en el Vístula, los hérulos y los rugios en Pomerania, los burgundios en la cuenca alta del Elba y los vándalos en la desembocadura del mismo río). Los godos poseían una fuerte organización dinástica que les permitió adquirir una capacidad de choque y una penetración mayor que las demás tribus germánicas, invadieron Dacia y se asentaron en ella por un periodo aún no establecido exactamente por las fuentes godas (dado que eran una tribu semierudita) a pesar de haber sido derrotados en el 214 por el Emperador Caracalla.
El contacto con el Imperio romano prontamente introdujo cierta civilización en las tribus góticas, y fueron reclutados para luchar con los romanos en las Guerras romano-sasánidas. Sin embargo, la presión hostil en los confines del imperio se hizo cada vez más fuerte, siendo una de sus causas el explosivo aumento poblacional de los bárbaros y el simultáneo ocaso de la capacidad militar del imperio. En el año 251, los godos encabezados por Cniva vencieron y asesinaron al emperador Decio en la batalla de Attrio. Al mismo tiempo comenzaron con la invasión de los Balcanes hacia Bizancio, por una parte, y la de Italia y Panonia, por otra. Contra ellos lucharon los emperadores Claudio II (llamado El Gótico) y Aureliano. Y cuando los romanos abandonaron Dacia hacia 270, los godos emprendieron la ocupación del territorio hacia 300. Y ya en esa época, en 291, está documentada por primera vez la división de los godos en dos grupos.[2] Los tervingios aparecen establecidos al oeste del Dniéster y los greutungos al este.[3] Más adelante se aliaron con Constantino II y se convirtieron al cristianismo por obra del obispo Ulfilas, que tradujo la Biblia a su lengua.
Las guerras entabladas entre los emperadores romanos y los gobernantes godos a lo largo de casi un siglo devastaron la región de los Balcanes y los territorios del noreste del Mediterráneo. Otras tribus se unieron a los godos y bajo el gran rey Hermanarico establecieron en el siglo IV (350) un reino que se extendía desde el mar Báltico hasta el mar Negro, teniendo como súbditos a eslavos, ugrofineses e iranios.
Hacia el 370, los hunos arrasaron el vasto reino greutungo del rey Hermanarico, y los tervingios cruzaron el Danubio y entraron como refugiados en el Imperio. En el año 378 derrotaron y dieron muerte en la Batalla de Adrianópolis, al emperador romano Valente, pudiendo obtener así un tributo por una paz que sería sólo temporal.
La fuerzas visigodas dirigidas por Alarico I iniciaron a partir del año 395 una expedición hacia la península Itálica que llegó a Roma en el 410. El emperador Honorio concedió a los visigodos la región de Aquitania, desde donde los visigodos derrotó a los vándalos y conquistaron la mayor parte de la Península Ibérica hacia 475, fundando a partir de estos hechos, un reino que terminaría desapareciendo por la invasión y ocupación islámica en el año 711.
Por su parte, los ostrogodos de Teodomiro se sacudieron del poder huno tras la Batalla de Nedao en 454. A petición del emperador Zenón, Teodorico el Grande conquistó toda Italia a partir de 488. El reino ostrogodo persistió hasta 553 bajo Teya, cuando Italia volvió brevemente a control bizantino hasta la invasión de los lombardos en el 568.
Con el hundimiento de los reinos, los godos desaparecieron de la historia, habiendo asimilado rápida y totalmente a la civilización romana. La rama que más tiempo perduró fue la de los godos de Crimea, los cuales perdieron su independencia en el año 1475 frente a los turcos, en tanto su lengua, aún viva en parte del siglo XVI, no parece haberse extinguido hasta el siglo XVIII.
Cuando tuvieron los primeros contactos con el Imperio romano, los godos se dieron al pillaje dentro de sus tierras. Cuando se instalaron en Dacia, se dedicaron a la extracción de recursos minerales que luego comercializaban con los romanos.
Con el establecimiento en la provincia romana de Dacia, se produce un profundo cambio en la estructura económica y social de los godos. En un principio se trataba de un pueblo seminómada en donde todos los hombres eran libres y tenían los mismos derechos ante sus caudillos, siendo todos guerreros en potencia, para luego pasar a ser una sociedad dedicada a la actividad agrícola y en menor escala ganadera. Nace así una fuerza de campesinos libres que no deben guerrear y otra casta que estaba conformada por guerreros profesionales que se entregaban de lleno a la preparación militar.
Surge también una aristocracia que se dedica a acumular grandes riquezas obtenidas mayoritariamente del comercio con el Imperio romano. Este cambio social y económico de convertirse en una nación agrícola, conlleva a que las aspiraciones militares de los godos sean la conquista de tierras fértiles donde poder asentarse y desarrollar la actividad mayoritaria. En todo el territorio conquistado se produce este poderoso fenómeno, pero se muestra una acentuación en comarcas visigodas, pues limitaban con el Imperio, por un lado, y con los ostrogodos, por el otro, mientras que estos últimos poseían la retaguardia desprotegida ante invasiones hunas y de otros grupos bárbaros.
Cabe destacar que los godos absorbieron con facilidad innovaciones tecnológicas, como el estribo, el arco, la equitación y nuevas tácticas militares basadas principalmente en la caballería armada con arco y flecha. Con estos avances y la riqueza obtenida del comercio con los romanos, los godos se convierten prontamente en una gran potencia que se encuentra por encima de otros pueblos germánicos. Esto hace que se transformen en un problema para el Imperio romano.
Este desarrollo económico (y también el desarrollo militar) produjo preocupación dentro de los límites imperiales, por lo que Aureliano se decidió a proclamar el Deus et dominus natus, reconociendo así a la nación goda asentada en Dacia, en el año 270. De esta forma, los romanos reconocían a los godos como una nación amiga y vecina, a pesar de que las incursiones al otro lado del Danubio proseguían sin importar lo que se estipulara en los tratados. Con el Deus et dominus natus se intentó pacificar a los godos, haciéndoles creer que eran gratos y necesarios para el Imperio; como bien se sabe, los romanos siempre fueron buenos diplomáticos.
El idioma gótico es una de las más antiguas de las lenguas germánicas. Se han encontrado escritos de leyendas populares de la Edad Media y algunos estudiosos afirman que el idioma se habló hasta el siglo XVI, cuando se extinguió definitivamente.
El idioma gótico es una lengua germánica extinta, que, con la lengua de los burgundios, vándalos, hérulos y rugenos, constituía el grupo germánico oriental. A diferencia de las últimas, de las cuales sólo se conocen algunos nombres propios y algunos sustantivos, el gótico es conocido por fragmentos que se conservan de la traducción de la Biblia, efectuada por Ulfilas, que convirtió y evangelizó a los godos. Estos, asentados al principio al norte del Danubio, fueron conducidos por el mencionado obispo en el año 348 al otro lado del río, cerca de Nicópolis, para que pudiesen escapar de las persecuciones anticristianas decretadas por Atanarico.
La obra de Ulfilas fue de gran importancia. No sólo era gran conocedor de su propia lengua, sino también del latín y griego. Se vio en la necesidad de trasladar los conceptos, los hechos culturales y los objetos de la civilización grecorromana a una lengua alejada de todo ello, debido a las características culturales del pueblo que la hablaba y carente también, si se exceptúan las inscripciones rúnicas germánicas, de cualquier tradición literaria. Por lo tanto, Ulfilas tuvo que crear primeramente un alfabeto proveniente del griego, pero con rasgos latinos y rúnicos, y solucionar a continuación los complicados problemas relacionados con la semántica. Aún con la limitación de tratarse de una lengua de una sola persona y resultado de una traducción, es la primera lengua germánica documentada. Además la lengua gótica posee ciertos trazos de conservación -ausente o en vías de desaparición en otras lenguas germánicas- que colocan a este idioma histórico bastante cerca de aquella abstracción científica que constituye el germánico común.
El recuerdo del pueblo godo se ha mantenido en la cultura popular española a lo largo de los siglos asociado a la nobleza antigua, dando lugar a expresiones como «hacerse los godos» o «ser godo».[4] Con el tiempo, el adjetivo «godo» ha adquirido varias acepciones, generalmente despectivas:
en las Islas Canarias es habitual el uso del término «godo» para referirse a los españoles peninsulares e insulares (islas Baleares);[4]
