3 Phi and Triangles
3.1 Phi and the Equilateral Triangle
 Chris and Penny at Regina University's Math Central (Canada) show how we can use any circle to construct on it a hexagon and an equilateral triangle. Joining three pairs of points then reveals a line and its golden section point as follows:
- On any circle (centre O), construct the 6 equally spaced points A, B, C, D, E and F on its circumference without altering your compasses, so they are the same distance apart as the radius of the circle. ABCDEF forms a regular hexagon.
- Choose every other point to make an equilateral triangle ACE.
- On two of the sides of that triangle (AE and AC), mark their mid-points P and Q by joining the centre O to two of the unused points of the hexagon (F and B).
- The line PQ is then extended to meet the circle at point R.
Q is the golden section point of the line PR.
 Q is a gold point of PRThe proof of this is left to you because it is a nice exercise either using coordinate geometry and the equation of the circle and the line PQ to find their point of intersection or else using plane geometry to find the lengths PR and QR.The diagram on the left has many golden sections and yet contains only equilateral triangles. Can you make your own design based on this principle?

En Números 2 está el orden en que marcharon las 12 tribus. La estrella de David es de seis puntas o un hexagrama cuyas puntas e intersecciones forman 12 ubicaciones. Como cada tribu tenía al frente su líder con su bandera, se entiende así que este marchaba en punta, y detrás su pueblo en ese orden conveniente.
Toda la nación iba unida de esta manera, listos para enfrentar ejércitos, porque iban a poseer las puertas de sus enemigos, salvaguardando lo más sagrado que tenían, el arca del pacto que estaba protegida en el centro.
Génesis 22:17 de cierto te bendeciré, y multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo y como la arena que está a la orilla del mar; y tu descendencia poseerá las puertas de sus enemigos.

Como emblema nacional, la estrella de David es compuesta por dos triángulos equiláteros cruzados como cuerdas en tres dimensiones; y superpuestos de tal manera que forman una estrella de seis puntas.
Significa la equivalencia de los acontecimientos de los cielos y los sucesos de la Tierra. La estructura geométrica de la estrella de David es equilibrada, si se hace girar sobre su eje siempre será la misma, arriba o abajo, a la izquierda o a la derecha –no tiene patas ni cabeza- Es posible que guardando una formación así, los ejércitos de Israel que acampaban y se movilizaban rodeados por enemigos, hayan logrado mayor solidez para defenderse de cualquier ataque, y salvaguardar la nación que marchaba con ellos, llevando el arca del pacto hacia la tierra que Jehová les prometió.
Pero Israel no hubiera necesitado formar como una estrella de David en su salida de Egipto, sino salir en otro orden hasta cruzar el mar. Durante el primer año del éxodo, Israel vivió diversas pruebas que les esperaban por el desierto, y aún era una nación dividida por aquellos que no confiaban en Moisés.
Luego que reciben la ley de Dios para que guardaran unidad con Jehová, y construyen el tabernáculo y el arca del pacto, hacen el censo de su población militar para conquistar la tierra de sus enemigos. A partir de allí posiblemente, la nación formó como una estrella de David con propósitos tácticos.
