Throughout the Hebrew Bible, it is also used in conjunction with saraph to describe vicious serpents in the wilderness. Tanniyn, a form of dragon-monster, also occurs throughout the Hebrew Bible. In the Book of Exodus, the staffs of Moses and Aaron are turned into serpents, a nachash for Moses, a tanniyn for Aaron. In the New Testament, the Book of Revelation makes use of ancient serpent and the Dragon several times to identify Satan or the Devil. (Rev 12:9; 20:2)

That I believe is the Virgin Mary treading on the snake. It relates to both Psalm 91 (which is also where the foot on the rock symbol is supposed to be from), and Genesis 3 - I've always been fascinated by the "snake in the Garden" story, because it is SO ambiguous and frankly, the snake looks like the good guy - the snake brings the wisdom, which apparently Yahweh didn't want them to have. Over and over, snakes are associated with wisdom, and over and over we are shown crushing them, spearing them, etc. - to me it has always looked like "stamping out" a particular KIND of wisdom is considered good in the CHRISTIAN world (but not exclusively - look at Apollo and Python) - the "kind" seems to be pagan, earthy, female, oracular, etc. Mary is positioned as the "New Eve" - here's Mary explicitly associated with the "Eve snake": http://8020.photos.jpgmag.com/1487705_7850_58fbb3bba1_p.jpgBTW, if you haven't read Revelation 12 in a while...it specifically describes Mary ("moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars") and a red serpent/dragon. Keep in mind that when Genesis was supposedly written, Satan wasn't being mentioned yet, so who/what was the snake?

A few more things which are probably nothing. I hope people with better knowledge of the local history then me can help discard right away. But just to get out of my head. First, look at one of the river bends: On the picture from the 40:ies and 50:ies, there seems to be something that is gone today. It's just above the farmland, on the slopes of the eastside RLB. There is a group of - something. Looks a little too bright too be farmland. Just wondering if these could be old structures - or if these pixels of old just are fooling me around. It seems to be gone today. Today - and the area of interest:    Some older photos - with the group of something gradually fading away:     And if it was once farmland - and not structures - it still had a strange layout.
