Realizing the relevance of Earth's Precessional Cross geometry (the movement and geometric orientation of our Earth and Sun in our galaxy) places the signs (and our awareness) in the far greater context of our evolutionary sojourn as a stellar race of sentient souls.
Thus, the Galactic Ayanamsa is defined by the Galactic Equatorial Node (GEN) as being the prime fiducial of the sidereal zodiak; setting the GEN (Gate of God) to exactly 5° 00' 00" sidereal Sagittarius. The Galactic Ayanamsa is 25° 00' 00" for epoch 2000 A.D. Thus, 0° Tropical Aries resides at 5° 00' sidereal Pisces @ 2000 A.D.; i.e., the tropical zodiak has drifted from the fixed sidereal zodiak by 25° 00' 00" based upon the Galactic Ayanamsa.
The placement of the sidereal signs reckoned to the Galactic Equatorial Node (Galactic Ayanamsa) is quite close to the both the Fagan-Bradley reckoning (Spica) and the Babylonian reckoning (Aldebaran). Differences this small can become an academic argument only. However, various stars may lie on different sides of the sign cusps depending on which reckoning is used. Detailed exploration of the appropriate placement of cuspal stars is something I have explored using the Galactic reckoning, perhaps to be published at a later time. Another area where the exactness of sidereal sign cusps are of significance is when using sub-divisions of the signs (dwads, etc) where each sub-division is ruled by a specific sign. Using this astrological technique, the placement of a planet in a chart may cause it to cross a sub-cusp depending on the reckoning used. This is another interesting way to experientially explore the reckoning of the sidereal zodiak.
Due to the constantly moving vernal point (0° tropical Aries), the ayanamsa (any ayanamsa) is a dynamic figure, it therefor must be referenced to a specific time in the precessional cycle--generally this is 1950 or 2000 A.D. When converting a tropical chart to a sidereal chart, this precessional drift must be taken into account, especially if making a chart in the far distant past or future. Software programs generally take into account Earth's precessional drift and nutational variances when calculating a sidereal chart, but the sidereal astrologer must choose the ayanamsa of his or her choice. Star longitudes must be adjusted to the chosen ayanamsa if adding individual stars to an astrological chart. This is important due to the tight orb of stellar influence.
The following chart is a comparison of several of the more common ayanamsas.

* The Ayanamsa @ 2000 AD can be used to convert tropical longitudes to sidereal longitudes. For example if your Sun resides at 0° 00' 00" Aries (exactly on the vernal point) subtract 24° 44' 12" to get your sun's sidereal location using the Fagan-Bradley ayanamsa. Or subtract 25° 00' 00" to get your sun's sidereal location using the Galactic Ayanamsa.
A quick and simple shortcut to this is to add 5° and drop back a sign; i.e., if your tropical Ascendant is 9° 00' sidereal Pisces (add 5°, minus one sign). Your sidereal ASC is 14° 00' sidereal Aquarius. This is true for charts cast around 2000 AD. Remember, an ayanamsa changes over time at the rate of precession. The chart lists ayanamsa for two epcohs: 1950 and 2000 A.D.
** The Delta figure can be used to convert sidereal longitudes calculated with one ayanamsa to the Galactic Ayanamsa. For example, if you have a computer program that calculates your sun to be at 15° 03' sidereal Taurus (aligning with Aldebaran) using the Fagan-Bradley ayanamsa, you can subtract ~ 00° 16' (- 00° 15' 48") to get the Sun's location at 14° 47' using the Galactic Ayanamsa.
Precessional Time is NOT a Constant
To further compound the problem of zodiakal reckoning, we must recognize that the rate of Earth's precession is NOT a constant. It is accurate to say the last erect precessional cross had occurred exactly 180° degrees ago in the precessional cycle, but we can only estimate that to have been 9,000 to 13,000 years ago. The rate of precession may vary over long periods of time, or even oscillate around some harmonic ideal. There are many continuously changing astronomical factors that affect the rate of precession, not to mention the cause of the precessional of the equinoxes is not even clear. (Just as we can not pinpoint a date in the distant past is why I suggest man-made calendars made in antiquity fall short of being able to predict future evolutionary changes to a specific date.)
"The Great World Cycle," or "Earth's Great Year," as Earth's precessional cycle is sometimes called, is estimated to be between 22,000 and 26,000 solar years--often rounded to the latter figure. The 25,920 figure, often seen, is a natural harmonic ideal found in quantum math. Another quantum number of significance is 22,680, quite close to the 23,000 figure. These are all academic figures however: Earth's current rate of precession is calculated to be ~25,867 years, and it is slightly increasing. This is about 1° every ~71.85 years, or 0° 00' 50.26" per year.
Walter Cruttenden, in his binary star model, suggests our binary sun's average orbital period is 24,000 years, with it slowing to 22,000 years or less at the binary orbit's apoapsis and increasing to 26,000 years at its periapsis. This model appropriately recognizes an ever changing precessional rate.

Precession of the Tropical Zodiak & the Astrological Ages
The vernal point is also the fiducial (reference point) for the tropical zodiak, defining 0° tropical Aries. Because the vernal point moves in the ecliptic, the entire set of signs comprising the tropical zodiak also moves with respect to the stars (and the sidereal zodiak), which remain fixed in their location in the heavens.

The location of the vernal point in the sidereal zodiak defines the current zodiakal age. The sidereal zodiak is a set of signs, much like the tropical signs, except they do not move in the ecliptic. The sidereal signs are aligned with their corresponding constellations. The tropical zodiak aligned with the fixed sidereal zodiak around 200 A.D. but has since drifted 25°; i.e. this was when zero degrees tropical Aries aligned with 0° sidereal Aries. The vernal point currently resides at about 5° sidereal Pisces as it slowly moves toward the sidereal sign of Aquarius--thus we are completing the age of Pisces. We will formally enter the age of Aquarius when the vernal point precesses to 0° Aquarius--in about 360 years (5° x 72 yrs) from now. The vernal point is also called the Birthplace, or the Office of the Christos (point of the sun/son/soul)--governing the timing of the re-birth of soul consciousness into the world.
The vernal point's arrival to 5° sidereal Pisces at this time in Earth's precessional cycle (circa 2000 A.D.) creates a primary event that supersedes the importance of changing zodiakal ages: this event is the formation of a perfect cross in the cycle of Earth's Precession of the equinoxes. The formation of this precessional cross is explained below.

The center (blue) ring in the above illustration is the sidereal zodiak. The signs of the sidereal zodiak align with their corresponding constellations and their stars. The sidereal zodiak does not move. It is referenced to the fixed stars in the heavens, or to the fixed and primary galactic equatorial axis in the ecliptic (the horizontal line). This axis is created by the intersection of the ecliptic plane and the galactic plane, which are tilted with respect to each other by 60°. The two nodes of this axis in the ecliptic are the “Galactic Equatorial Node” (GEN) at 5° sidereal Sagittarius, and the anti-GEN at 5° sidereal Gemini. They are also called the “Gate of God” and the “Gate of Man.”
The outer (violet) ring reveals the thirteen ecliptical constellations (not signs). This ring shows where the boundaries of the actual constellations cross the ecliptic. The constellation Virgo encompasses the largest length of the ecliptic (about 44°). The constellation Scorpio dips south of the ecliptic plane with only the Scorpion’s head lying upon the ecliptic–encompassing only about 6° of the ecliptic. Ophiuchus, the serpent holder, stands upon the Scorpion and crosses the ecliptic–thus creating the thirteenth ecliptical constellation (not sign).
The inner (green ring) is the tropical zodiak (at 2000 A.D.) The tropical zodiak moves around the ecliptic with respect to the fixed stars--with respect to the sidereal zodiak and to the constellations. It moves because 0° tropical Aries is referenced to the moving Vernal Point. The Vernal Point moves around the ecliptic at a rate of about 1° every 72 years (once around the ecliptic in Earth's ~25,000-year precessional cycle) due to Earth's precession. The tropical zodiak and its signs are not reference to the stars or actual constellations, the tropical signs are referenced to Earth's seasons (the Vernal Point is where the Sun resides in the ecliptic on the spring equinox, as experienced in the northern hemisphere). The signs of the tropical zodiak are currently miss-aligned with the true sidereal signs (and the energies of the actual stars and constellations) by ~25°, and they are drifting further and further apart due to Earth's precession.

THE ANCHOR OF THE WORLD: Did the Pyramid Builders of the Old Kingdom use the Pole of the Ecliptic?
© Robert G. Bauval |
A new study suggests that the Giza Pyramids might have been deliberately 'anchored' to the pole of the ecliptic at two distinct epochs by making use of certain stars, of religious importance to the Pyramid Builders, found in the circumpolar and non-circumpolar constellations. Such a hypothesis fortifies the possibility that the Pyramid Builders of Egypt were aware of the Precession of the Equinoxes.
AWARENESS OF PRECESSION?
There has been an ongoing heated debate between researchers in archaeoastronomy and Egyptologists as to whether the ancient pyramid builders of Egypt were aware of the phenomenon known as the precession of the equinoxes. In simple and brief terms, the precession of the equinoxes is the result of a very slow wobble-like gyration of the earth that takes around 26,000 years. The 'discovery' of the precession of the equinoxes is attributed to the Alexandrian-Greek astronomer Hipparchus in around 130 BC, and Egyptologists and historians in general totally reject the idea that the Egyptians might have known of the phenomenon thousands of years before. This view was recently voiced again in the international press based on the content of an article in the journal Nature by Dr. Kate Spence, an Egyptologist from Cambridge University [1].
Contrary to popular opinion, the apparent effect of precession is quite noticeable in the sky across a few centuries, as there is considerable change in the position of stars that can be easily picked up by naked-eye observations. Indeed, Philip Morrison of MIT noted that to discover precession requires only a tree (solar gnomon) and faith in the veracity of one's grandfather (an oral record). Thus over the 700 years or so that led from the formation of the ancient Egyptian civilisation in c. 3200 BC to the start of the 4th Dynasty in c. 2500 BC, the rising place (known in astronomy as the azimuth) of stars such as, say, those in Orion's belt, would have changed by as much as 3° on the horizon, and as much as 2.5° at culmination on the meridian. This alone has led many modern researchers to remark that it would have been unlikely for a people like the ancient Egyptians, who were very keen and avid observers of the sky and stars, not to be aware of the precessional shift, even though they might not have understood its underlying cause or have been able to compute it mathematically [2]. In 1894 the British astronomer, Sir Norman Lockyer (1836-1920), the 'father of archaeoastronomy', brought further evidence in support of this view, in his book The Dawn of Astronomy (1894), when he demonstrated that the ancient Egyptians' aligned their temples to stars rising in the east and often changed the alignment of the temple in order to take into account the drift caused by precession. Although Lockyer was largely ignored by the Egyptologists, a century later the same findings were reported by the American astronomer R.A. Wells for temples such as the Satet temple of Isis on Elephantine Island in Upper Egypt [3]. It was not until 1964 that Lockyer's findings prompted the well-known MIT professor Giorgio de Santillana to conclude that:
"When a stellar temple is oriented so accurately that it requires several reconstructions at intervals of a few centuries, which involved each time the rebuilding of its narrow alignment on a star, and the wrecking of the main symmetry that goes with it; when Zodiacs, like that of Denderah, are deliberately depicted in the appearance they would have had centuries before, as if to date the changes, then it is not reasonable to suppose the Egyptians were unaware of the precession of the equinoxes, even if their mathematics was unable to predict it numerically. Lockyer let the facts speak for themselves, but it is he who has given the proof. Actually, the Egyptians do describe the Precession, but in a language usually written off as mythological or religious." [4]
There are several astronomers who are open to the idea that the ancient Egyptians knew of precession [5], but as far as I can tell, the only Egyptologist who openly supports Santillana's view is the American scholar Jane B. Sellers [6]. The rest either choose to ignore it or attempt to disprove and discredit this idea at every opportunity [7]. It is well-known that my colleague Graham Hancock and I fully endorse Santillana's views, and that we have also argued that the pyramid builders of Giza not only were aware of Precession but also incorporated its principles in their architecture for religious and ritual purposes [8]. In this present article I will review another aspect of the Old Kingdom pyramids which also demonstrates this fact, but from a totally different and new viewpoint.
THE POLE OF THE ECLIPTIC
The Earth tilts some 23° 26' from the plane of the ecliptic. This angle, however, changes fractionally in cycles of 40,000 years from a minimum of about 22° 6' to a maximum of about 24° 30' due to a phenomenon known as the obliquity of the ecliptic. Calculations show that the angle of tilt has been steadily decreasing since the beginning of recorded history, c.3500 BC, at the average rate of about 40" per century. Using the accepted rigid formula [9], it can be shown that in c. 2500 BC, when the construction of the Giza pyramids began, the tilt of the earth's axis was 23° 58'. The Giza pyramid site is at latitude of 29° 59', which means that the north celestial pole of the sky was at an altitude of 29° 59'.
We always think in terms of the north celestial pole as being the focal point of the sky, an immovable imaginary point around which all the fixed stars seems to revolve in concentric circles. So entrenched is this idea that we ignore or are unaware that this imaginary point is not the true focal point of the sky at all. And even though the idea that the north celestial pole is a fixed point holds true for a very short period of time, the statement becomes invalid over long periods of time because of precession. The fact is that the north celestial pole drifts away from the fixed field of stars at the rate of about 20" arc seconds a year due to the perpetual wobble-like cycle of our planet. Furthermore, the north celestial pole will keep on drifting from the fixed star field up to a full 47° (about one quarter of the visible sky field) over its 26,000 years cycle. This is hardly a fixed point in terms of cosmic time. There is, however, another point in the sky which drifts away from the fixed star field at the very much slower rate of 0.4 arc seconds per year, that is 50 times slower than the drift of the north celestial pole and thus, by true definition, making it the real focal point of the sky. This point is known as pole of the ecliptic. Furthermore, the pole of the ecliptic will only displace itself a mere 2.5° over its 40,000 years cycle.
The pole of the ecliptic is located in the heart of the constellation of Draco, approximately between the stars Zeta Draco and Al Tais. Assuming that the ancient astronomer-priests of Egypt began observing and recording the position of stars some 200 years before the dynastic period, say c. 3500 BC, up to the start of the 4th Dynasty in c.2500 BC, a simple calculation shows that the position of the pole of the ecliptic would have displaced itself by only 6 minutes of arc (0.1°), over this whole 1000 year period. On the other hand, the north celestial pole would have been displaced by 333 minutes of arc (5.55°). Imagine a dartboard where one dart (the pole of the ecliptic) is 1 cm away from the bull's eye and another (north celestial pole) is 50 cm away, and you will get the picture. The pole of the ecliptic will cross the meridian twice each day i.e. upper and lower culmination. Calculations show that during the Pyramid Age, and as seen from the latitude of Giza (29° 59'), the pole of the ecliptic would have had its upper culmination at the meridian at an altitude of 53° 57' (29° 59' + 23° 58'). The table below shows the altitude of the pole of the ecliptic at upper culmination at the meridian at different latitudes/locations in Lower and Middle Egypt, roughly encompassing the region of pyramid building during the Old Kingdom:

THE POLE-SPEAR OF THE HAWK-HEADED HORUS
The pole of the ecliptic seems to have been known by some ancient cultures. For example, the French astronomer A. Bouche-Leclerq noted that "it is well-known that the pole par excellence for the Chaldeans was the pole of the ecliptic, which is in the constellation of the Dragon (Draco)" [10]. Also the MIT scholar Giorgio de Santillana believed that the ancients perceived the pole of the ecliptic as the centre of a 'whirlpool' in the sky [11]. In keeping with this hypothesis, R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz demonstrates that the astronomical arrangements of the circumpolar and zodiacal constellations at the centre of the circular Denderah Zodiac show both the pole of the ecliptic as well as the north celestial pole. As the author and pyramid researcher Peter Tompkins explained:
"The zodiac (of Denderah) is a circle at the centre of which is our north pole... our north pole is correctly located in the constellation of the jackal, or Little Bear (Ursa Minor), as it was at the time the zodiac was carved, sometime about the first century BC. But the zodiac also shows the pole of the ecliptic, located in the breast of the hippopotamus, or constellation of Draco. To Schwaller this explains the spiral formation of the constellations. The mythological figures are entwined in two circles --one around the north pole and one around the pole of the ecliptic. Where these two circles intersect marks the point of the equinox, or due east. The zodiac thus becomes a calendar going back to remote antiquity." [12]
FIGURE 1
The dark-lined circle has its centre at the north celestial pole, marked today by the star Polaris in the Small Bear (Ursa Major). The faint-lined circle has its centre at the pole of the ecliptic at a spot within the constellation of Draco. Where the circles intersect are found the equinoxes. The north celestial pole and the vernal equinox will drift with time, denoted by the other small circles, but the pole of the ecliptic will remain relatively fixed.

In the 1970s the professor of the History of Science, Livio C. Stecchini, examined ancient Egyptian charts of the circumpolar constellations, showing the Hippopotamus (Draco) and the Thigh (Ursa Major or Great Bear) as well as a hawk-headed man, probably Horus, seen pointing a pole or spear at the head of the Bull [13].
FIGURE 3
According to the Czechoslovakian Egyptologist Zybnek Zaba, the pole or spear held by the hawk-headed man indicated the meridian line passing through the north celestial pole. But Stecchini did not agree. He maintained that Zaba did not notice that the spear's head divided the seven stars of the Thigh (Big Bear) constellation into groups of three and four stars. This line defined by the spear, argued Stecchini, does not indicate the meridian passing through the north celestial pole at all, but the meridian passing through the pole of the ecliptic. According to Stecchini, the ancient Egyptians not only understood the precession of the equinoxes but also knew that the true meridian is the one passing through the pole of the ecliptic. Another point that seems to have escaped both Zaba and Stecchini, however, is the peculiar way the standing Hippopotamus holds a rope with its right hand that is attached to the lower end of the Thigh constellation. In my opinion the position of the 'right hand' seems very much to denote the actual position of the pole of the ecliptic onto which the Thigh (Great Bear) constellation seems to be 'moored' to or 'anchored' with a rope.
THE GREAT MOORING-POST OF THE SKY
There are many references to a mysterious object called the 'Great Mooring-post' in the Pyramid Texts, often found alongside passages that are clearly astronomical in character [14].
"The Great Mooring post calls to you... you ascend here as a star, the Morning Star. He comes to you his father, he comes to you, O Geb; take his hand and let him sit on the great throne that he may join the two 'Hrmt' [?] of the sky. " PT 2014
"The doors of the sky are open for you, the mourning-woman summons you as Isis, the Great Mooring-post calls to you as Nephtys, you have appeared upon the causeway..." PT 2232
It is clear that the 'Great Mooring-post' is somehow to be regarded as being associated to the sky ascent of Osiris, the form of the defunct king who is assisted by his sisters, Isis and Nephtys. Now it is well known that Osiris in his stellar form is the constellation of Orion. Not surprisingly, therefore, there are other references in the Pyramid Texts to the Great Mooring-post which appear in passages where Orion is specifically mentioned. For example:
"O King, you are this great star, the companion of Orion, who traverses the sky with Orion, who navigates the Netherworld with Osiris... the Great Mooring-post cries out to you as to Osiris in his suffering." PT 882-4
"The Great Mooring-post calls out, because you are he who stands and will never tire in the midst of Abydos [Osiris?]...Betake yourself to the waterway, fare upstream to the Thinite Nome, travel about Abydos, in this spirit form of yours which the gods commanded belongs to you, may a stairway to the netherworld be set up for you to the place where Orion is...” PT 1711-7
Orion, however, is not a circumpolar or even a northern constellation but very much a southern constellation. Oddly, there are other passages which associate the Great Mooring-post to the 'imperishable stars', the northern circumpolar stars that never 'die' i.e. never set [15]:
"The doors of the sky are opened for you, the doors of the firmament are thrown open for you... the Mooring-post cries to you, the sun-folk call you, the Imperishable Stars wait on you..." PT 876
"The Great Mooring-post calls to you... may you remove yourself upon your iron throne, may you cross the lake, may your face be [cleansed?] in the north of the sky..." PT 1012-6
It has long been accepted by Egyptologists that the imagined skyward ascent of the king's soul was either in the north of the sky among the 'Imperishable Stars' or in the south of the sky amongst the stars of Orion [16]. This specific belief is materialised in the Great Pyramid of Giza by the so-called star-shafts emanating from the King's Chamber, where one was targeted north to the circumpolar stars and the other targeted south to Orion [17]. In consideration of this, it is justified to wonder if the pyramids were not, in some symbolic way, 'moored' or 'anchored' not just to the circumpolar region of the sky in general but, more specifically, to the pole of the ecliptic, the true 'pole' of the sky?

THE SLOPE OF THE PYRAMIDS
It is well known that the monumental Pyramids of the Old Kingdom in Egypt, from the 4th Dynasty (c. 2500 BC) to the 6th Dynasty (c.2100 BC), have slopes 52° +- 2°, with two notable exceptions being the two pyramids at Dashur, with the Red Pyramid having a slope of about 43° 22' and the Bent Pyramid having half its height at slope of 54° 27' and the top half at 43° 22'. Today there are still some 25 royal pyramids standing in the 25 kilometres strip of desert land adjacent to the west bank of the Nile Valley near modern Cairo. Most have their core masonry sufficiently intact to allow relatively accurate measurements of their slopes. A recent batch of slope measurements were provided by Jaromir Malek and John Baines in 1984 and Mark Lehner in 1997, of which 17 pyramids spanning from the 4th to the 6th Dynasties can by analysed. The first, a pyramid attributed to the relatively unknown pharaoh Huni of the 3rd Dynasty, is generally thought to have been 'converted' into a true, smooth-sloped pyramid by the founder of the 4th Dynasty, king Snefru, the father of Khufu, builder of the Great Pyramid at Giza. I have thus considered the Meidum pyramid as being part of the 4th Dynasty trend.

No convincing explanation has, so far, been given as to why the Pyramid builders selected slopes of 52° +/- 2°. There are geometrical theories and also construction issues that have been proposed as an explanation in recent years, but none are very satisfactory. From Table 2, we can see that the angle of slope most often encountered is 53° 07' 48", which occurs in nearly 50% of the Old Kingdom pyramids. This range of angles, from 54.5° to 51.7°, as can be seen from Table 1 above, bears a conspicuous correlation to the range of angles of the pole of the ecliptic of 54.5° to 51.5° at upper culmination as seen from across the pyramid fields of the Old Kingdom. In consideration of this, it is very tempting to inquire whether the ancient builders could have incorporated the angle of the pole of the ecliptic in the design of their pyramids.
Let us examine this possibility.
A STAR RELIGION
There are many studies that show that the pyramid builders linked their religion, and consequently their pyramids, to the stars [18]. It is also known that the ancient pyramid builders observed the stars as they culminated at the meridian north and south. Special attention, too, was given to the rising of the stars in the east, especially at dawn. The dominant group of stars that have been identified from ancient Egyptian sources with certainty are Orion, Sirius and the circumpolar constellations of Draco, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. These circumpolar stars were perceived as being 'immortal' and 'indestructible' because they never rise or set but perpetually revolve in concentric circles around the north celestial pole. This led many Egyptologists to assert that the ancient Egyptians gave special attention to this region of the sky. At the very least, this all shows that the pyramid builders were avid observers of the rising and culmination of the stars, and most probably recorded their positions over long periods of time. It is also reasonable to assume that observations of the circumpolar stars might have been made while also observing simultaneously other stars rising in the east and still others simultaneously culminating in the south. The opinion is unanimous among Egyptologists and astronomers that the square bases of the Old Kingdom pyramids were deliberately made to face the four cardinal directions, in some cases with remarkably high precision. This, when coupled with the ancient builders' keen interest in the sky, would mean that the dominant alignments were an axis running east-west and another axis running north-south, forming an imaginary cross through the pyramid. The implications are, therefore, that the east-west axis served for the observation of the rising of celestial bodies in the east whereas the north-south axis served for the observation of the culmination of celestial bodies north and south at the meridian. Now, due-east defines the rising place of the equinoxes i.e. the positions occupied by the sun at the spring or autumn equinox. When an equinox is rising due-east on the horizon, the prime meridian or 'great circle' will loop directly above, passing through the north celestial pole and also through the pole of the ecliptic. Thus, by definition, the pole of the ecliptic is always on the prime meridian line when an equinox point is rising in the eastern horizon. However, the pole of the ecliptic will be at upper culmination at the meridian (about 53.5° altitude) only when the vernal point (spring equinox) is rising due-east. When this happens, all the main 'stations' (or 'colures') of the sky --the two equinoxes and the two solstices-- will be found in the four cardinal directions of the celestial landscape.
FIGURE 5
An observer at Giza at epoch c. 10,500 BC. When the vernal point (VP) is on the rise due east, the prime meridian loops directly overhead and passes through the north celestial pole, the pole of the ecliptic and the star Zeta Orionis in Orion's belt.
Thus if the ancient pyramid builders had wished to design a symbolic representation of this very special moment in time when the sky can be truly said to be in perfect order around the pole of the ecliptic, they would have selected a time when Orion was sitting due-south at the same time as the pole of the ecliptic was sitting due-north and the vernal point was sitting due-east.
When was that time?
DEFINING THE 'BEGINNING' AND COSMIC ORDER OF THE WORLD
By using astronomical software to scan the epochs, we find, interestingly, that the only one time in human history when this arrangement could have happened was c. 10,500 BC. Even more interestingly is the fact that the architectural simulacra defined by the Giza necropolis appears to 'freeze' that moment in immutable stone monuments:
1.The central pyramid, with its slope of 53 07' 48' is less than 1 degree away from the upper culmination of the pole of the ecliptic.
2.The three pyramids are set along the north-south 'colure' i.e. along the prime meridian of the sky.
3.The general pattern of the three pyramids correlates with the general pattern of the three central stars of Orion i.e. Orion's belt.
4.The vernal point is in alignment with the Great Sphinx as well as the constellation of Leo.
FIGURE 6
The sky in 10,500 BC of the Giza necropolis with mythological figures superimposed on the constellation of Leo and Orion.
This astronomical conjunction, which only occurs in c. 10,500 BC, does not, of course, mean that the monuments themselves were constructed in that remote epoch. What it does is suggest that the ancient pyramid builders of Giza wanted to define the 'beginning' and the cosmic order of the world in a grandiose architectural symbolic plan. It also adds more cogency to the argument that the ancient Egyptians not only observed and recorded the stars over vast periods of time, but that they were well-aware of the effects of Precession.

Biblical Astrology
The language of the Bible has a way of leading unsuspecting readers into thinking it was recording human historical events when, in reality, it was referring to the patterns of the stars. A general overview serves to explain how the Bible's allegorical language reflects a superstitious fear of darkness. This page serves as an introduction to a series of articles on bible astrology.
Circle
We go back to the ancient world when it was believed that earth was enclosed by a metallic dome called the firmament. Because of sky's blue color, they believed the firmament shrouded them from the water above.
6And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." 7And God made the firmament and separated the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament. (Gen. 1:6-7)
They believed that earth was stationary and that the stars moved in a circular fashion around earth.
10He has described a circle upon the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. (Job 26:10)
Isaiah describes God sitting above the circle, and the dome as a curtain and a tent. Apologists who say that the word "circle" implies that they knew earth was spherical don't know what they are talking about.
22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; (Isaiah 40:22)
This circle (Figure 1) was divided into twelve sectors we know today as the Zodiac. The primary development of the Zodiac goes back to ancient Egypt, Babylon and Greece. The names we are familiar with today came from the Greeks, but other cultures in the ancient world had their own names and myths associated with the Zodiac. The task before us is to decipher how the Bible's language relates to the constellations.

Figure 1.
Zodiac Motifs
The pie chart (Figure 2) shows the twelve "houses" with their dates. It's the same chart used by astrologers today. Ancients were correct in seeing the sun and its light as indispensable to life, but to the point where they worried that as daylight hours got shorter, the sun was endangered of dying a permanent death. When sunlight hours began to increase again, they were relieved. Thus darkness was personified as evil, because to them, it was the sun's enemy. This tension between good and evil ebbed and escalated every year.
The chart has four quadrants that represent the four seasons of the year. Starting at the bottom of the chart, in their mindset, the sun was dead for three days from December 22 to 24. It came back to life, or it was resurrected on December 25 when daylight hours start to increase. Evil was in power during the dark winter months, but it was also a time, as daylight hours were increasing, when the sun was winning its way back to glory.
At the spring equinox, when daylight and nighttime hours are equal, the sun has nullified the dark forces. As the days get progressively longer, the sun is on its righteous path back to full strength. It is the only season of the year when there is no dissension and there is peace on earth.
At the summer solstice, when the sun is at its zenith, it is on its throne at full power. As the sun starts to descend, the dark forces are starting to edge their way back. As the days get progressively shorter, the sun is still strong, but its strength is being sapped by all this constant tribulation.
At the fall equinox, things begin to look bleak. There is not much more that can be accomplished before the sun is betrayed and killed.
The zodiac year has twelve sectors because the moon makes approximately twelve cycles in a year. By most accounts, the ancient Egyptians developed the themes used today.
They had their creation myths which began from a primeval sea. Thus Capricorn the sea goat represents that transition. In fact, the entire winter quadrant has to do with water. We see parallels in the first chapter of the Bible.
1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. (Gen. 1:1-2)
When the sun emerges from darkness, God said "Let there be light".
3And God said, "Let there be light; and there was light. (Gen. 1:2)
Then God separated the waters.
6And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." (Gen. 1:6)
In early spring, Aries the lamb symbolizes the time when lambs come out of their mother's womb. Taurus the bull represents the time when bulls were used for plowing. Gemini has the strength of two men. In the beginning of summer, Cancer the crab symbolizes a time of concern about which way the sun was going to go, because crabs move irregularly. When the summer months were the hottest, Leo the lion was the king of beasts. Virgo is at the end of innocence. Libra the scale weighs between good and evil. In the late fall months, Scorpio the scorpion and Sagittarius the archer were hurling their stings and arrows.

Figure 2.
Puns
Puns are words that have double meanings. Here is where the Bible trips up unsuspecting readers. The Bible's story motifs follow the course of the sun through the four seasons.
In the Old Testament there are several books like Psalms and Proverbs, called the wisdom literature. Wisdom, in biblespeak, comes from knowledge of astrology. God's plan is written in the stars. He reveals his plan by the way he moves the stars and planets, not by mental telepathy. Angels bring their messages by the angles of the stars.
When stars are said to fall from heaven, it means they are descending. Dissension grows until it crosses the fall equinox, and then the sun is said to be betrayed. Then dissension grows to all out war. The fall equinox also symbolizes the gates to hell. Satan rules during the lower half of the sun cycle in fall and winter. The sun dies in the pits of hell at the winter solstice. At night the sun was believed to go under the world, so we have the term "underworld".
When the sun, or son of God, starts to ascend again (Jesus' ascension), the dark forces are trying to thwart him. It enters the gates to heaven at the spring equinox. In the spring, the sun brings righteousness and glory. It is in power during the light months of spring and summer, and on its throne at the summer solstice. This is where the kingdom of God is, when he has the power to send the righteous to heaven. The good side is on the right and the bad side is on the left of his throne.
The sun if crucified at the cross of the solstices and equinoxes. Sirius, the brightest star next to the sun, was called the star of Bethlehem. The stars of Orion the hunter was called the Son of Man. Orion has three stars that form its narrow waistline. The same three stars were the wise men from the east because they align with Sirius, the star of Bethlehem on December 25. Virgo was Virgin Mary and Bootes was Joseph. John the Baptist was Aquarius the water bearer.
This is only an introduction. Full explanations can be found on the home page.

Figure 3.
The Great Year
Another one of Christianity's insanities has to do with the end of the world and Jesus' second coming. For 2,000 years they have been waiting without satisfaction. The King James Version of Matthew 28:20 reflects that view.
20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. (Matt. 28:20 KJV)
It was a misinterpretation. According to the authoritative Strong's Dictionary, "world" was mistranslated from the Greek, aion, meaning "an age". Ignorant of astrology, Strong's goes on to say aion implies "world". There are some powerful differences between world and age.
A fundamentalist favorite, the New International Version gets it right with "age".
20teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matt. 28:20 NIV)
The "end of the world" implies some kind of calamity like a giant meteor or a nuclear war. If something like that happens, one's faith is not going to make a difference. The end of the age refers to an astrological age within the Great Year.
The Earth's rotation axis is not uniform. Like a rotating toy top, the direction of the rotation axis has a slow wobble or precession with a period of 25,920 years.
Since the rotation axis is precessing in space, the orientation of the Celestial Equator (Figure 3) also precesses with the same period. This means that the position of the equinoxes is changing slowly with respect to the background stars.
Thus, Polaris will not always be the Pole Star or North Star. The Earth's rotation axis happens to be pointing almost exactly at Polaris now, but in 12,960 years the precession of the rotation axis will mean that the bright star Vega in the constellation Lyra will be approximately at the North Celestial Pole, while in 25,920 more years Polaris will once again be the Pole Star.

Figure 4.
Astrologers call the 25,920 year cycle a Great Year and divide it into twelve Ages according to the constellations. When the sun enters the spring equinox, the constellation in the background determines the zodiacal Age. Figure 5 shows the sun entering the Age of Pisces at 6 BCE. 2160 years before, the sun was in the Age of Aries. 2160 years after Pisces, about 2012 CE, Aquarius will be in the background and it will be the Age of Aquarius. Because of the direction of precession, the Great Year cycle progresses in the reverse direction of the solar cycle.

Figure 5.
To summarize, the Age of Aries was marked in the Old Testament by the Passover lamb.
21Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. (Ex. 12:21)
The Age of Pisces began when the sun entered Pisces at the spring equinox (Figure 5).
18As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." (Matt. 4:18-19)
So when Jesus told his disciples he will be with them until the age, he meant the Age of Pisces. His time is almost over. There will be no end of the world, only the end of an Age.
20teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matt. 28:20 NIV)

Adam and Eve and the Serpent
We are looking at the Zodiac where the sun passes through Libra and Virgo. There, we find our two original sinners and the talking snake. The story interprets the picture.
God formed beasts and birds, and brought them to the man to be named. - The term Zodiac means literally circle of animal figures.
9So out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. (Gen. 2:9)
God took a rib from the man and used it to create a woman. - Adam's arm is raised, exposing his rib cage.
21So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; > 22and the rib which the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. (Gen. 2:21)
The serpent asked Eve if she was told not to eat from the garden. -The serpent lies at the feet of Adam and Eve.
1Now the serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God say, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden'?" (Gen. 3:1)
Eve saw the fruit was good for food, so she picked it and ate it. She gave some to Adam. - Eve has her arm outstretched as if reaching for the fruit. She is holding a chaff of wheat, but we will not quibble over whether the fruit was an apple or some other kind of fruit.
6So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate. (Gen. 3:6)

The serpent was cursed above all the wild animals. - There is a second serpent, one that circles around the North Pole every day without setting. That puts him above all the wild animals. In this position, he is glaring down on earth as if to be spreading evil.
14The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all cattle, and above all wild animals; (Gen. 3:14)
He shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel. - As Draco circles around the Pole, his head is either below or above Hercules' heel. The top position represents who is doing the bruising.
15I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."(Gen. 3:15)
He drove out the man. At the east of the garden he placed a cherubim and a flaming sword. - We will pass over the cherubim for some other time. The flaming sword is represented by Perseus' sword as it circles around the Pole. We note that Perseus is close to the sun's ecliptic near Taurus and Aries. The significance is that those two constellations mark the two zero hours during the 4,000 years of biblical history, or more specifically, where the sun passes during the vernal equinox. So Perseus' sword is in a sense at the entrance to Eden.
24He drove out the man; and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life. (Gen. 3:24)

Salvation
What is equally significant is the fact that the foundation of the doctrine of Christian original sin rests on the credibility of the fall of Adam and Eve. (See Original Sin.) Now that we can see that the first sin was in imaginary story, there is nothing to support the doctrine of salvation.

Cherubim
What are they? Ezekiel describes Cherubim as a composite of man, ox, lion and eagle. Opinions vary as to what they represent, or even if they are Cherubim. The According to one theory, the man is Aquarius, the ox is Taurus, the lion is Leo and the eagle is Ophiuchus in Scorpio-claiming that the eagle is an ancient form of Ophiuchus. On the surface, it seems to make sense. Each of the constellations is three months apart as if they represent the four cardinal directions. It's bothersome that the writer doesn't explain his source of the claim that Ophiuchus is the eagle. Then there is the theory that based on the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh, Scorpio is the man. This boundary stone below left shows a scorpion with a man's body. Below right, Wikipedia suggests Cherubim where originally statues found in pairs protecting doorways. That would apply as a statue representation.
10He rode on a cherub, and flew; he came swiftly upon the wings of the wind. (Psalm 18:10)
23The nave and the holy place had each a double door. 24The doors had two leaves apiece, two swinging leaves for each door. 25And on the doors of the nave were carved cherubim and palm trees, such as were carved on the walls; and there was a canopy of wood in front of the vestibule outside. (Ezek. 23-25)
I suggest that all of the above theories are false. The evidence on this page argues for Cherubim composed of Taurus the bull, Leo the lion, Orion the man and Aquila the eagle. Genesis tells us that Cherubim were stationed "to guard the way to the Tree of Life." The evidence will demonstrate that the way is the Milky Way. Each is stationed at a strategic point on the Milky Way: beginning, end and two flanks. There is a fifth constellation, Perseus with his sword, who guards the middle.

Cherubim described
Genesis tells us Cherubim were placed in the Garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life (not the Tree of Life itself). God placed a flaming sword turning every way to guard the way to the tree of life. In other words, there is a path of some sort to the Tree of Life. We will return to the sword later.
24He drove out the man; and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life. (Gen. 3:24)
In chapter one, Ezekiel describes "living creatures" as having the face of a man in the front, the face of a lion on the right, the face of an ox on the left, and the face of an eagle at the back. He doesn't explicitly call them Cherubim. We need more information.
The cloud describes the Milky Way. "A stormy wind out of the north" means a spirit from the north side of the Zodiac. Of course, terms like "burning coals of fire" and "flash of lightning" refer to the stars.
4As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness round about it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming bronze. 5And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the form of men, 6but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings. 7Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot; and they sparkled like burnished bronze. 8Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. And the four had their faces and their wings thus: 9their wings touched one another; they went every one straight forward, without turning as they went. 10As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man in front; the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle at the back. 11Such were their faces. And their wings were spread out above; each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while two covered their bodies. 12And each went straight forward; wherever the spirit would go, they went, without turning as they went. 13In the midst of the living creatures there was something that looked like burning coals of fire, like torches moving to and fro among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14And the living creatures darted to and fro, like a flash of lightning. (Ezek. 1:4-14)
The River of Heaven described
In the passage below, the river that interests us is the River Pishon. We recognize the Tigris and Euphrates. As for the River Gihon, the Zodiac has a second river in the southern hemisphere called the River Eridanus (not shown here).
10A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and there it divided and became four rivers. 11The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12and the gold of that land is good; bdellium and onyx stone are there. 13The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which flows around the whole land of Cush. 14And the name of the third river is Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. (Gen. 2:10-14)
3Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the house, when the man went in; and a cloud filled the inner court. 4And the glory of the LORD went up from the cherubim to the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the glory of the LORD. (Ezek. 10:3-4)
Ezekiel sees Cherubim by the river Chebar. Each has four faces and four wings. The firmament (celestial sphere) was over their heads. The best that I can make of the number four is that it represents four cardinal directions as the constellations rotate. The wheels symbolise the stars turning around the pole star.
15And the cherubim mounted up. These were the living creatures that I saw by the river Chebar. 16And when the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them; and when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels did not turn from beside them. 17When they stood still, these stood still, and when they mounted up, these mounted up with them; for the spirit of the living creatures was in them. (Ezek. 10:15-17)
Ezekiel identifies the living creatures by the river Chebar as Cherubim.
20These were the living creatures that I saw underneath the God of Israel by the river Chebar; and I knew that they were cherubim. 21Each had four faces, and each four wings, and underneath their wings the semblance of human hands. 22And as for the likeness of their faces, they were the very faces whose appearance I had seen by the river Chebar. They went every one straight forward. 22Over the heads of the living creatures there was the likeness of a firmament, shining like crystal, spread out above their heads. 23And under the firmament their wings were stretched out straight, one toward another; and each creature had two wings covering its body. (Ezek. 10:20-23)
Putting it alltogether
We have a map of the north celestial sphere below and a lot of descriptions from Genesis and Ezekiel. For the thesis to work, the descriptions should fit the map. I started with the assumption that the Milky Way is the river of heaven by coloring it blue. If it is a wrong assumption, the other pieces won't fit. The picture is inverted from the way we would see it from earth. The arc at the bottom represents the sun's ecliptic rising above us. Assume a viewing position in the middle on earth looking up towards the arc in the south.
Three descriptions fit the Milky Way. Genesis says the River Pishon flows out of Eden - so does the Milky Way in the sense that it extends beyond the Zodiac. Ezekiel tells us to look for Cherubim by the River Chebar. Genesis says the Cherubim and the flaming sword are in Eden to guard the way to the Tree of Life - the Milky Way. The flaming sword is on the east side where Genesis placed it.
From our viewer position, as Ezekiel described, we see the face of Orion in front of us, the eagle in the back, the lion to the right, and the ox to the left. Cherubim are guarding the river of heaven, or as Genesis put it, the way to the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life will be identified below.
Revelation calls the Milky Way the "water of life" that flows "from the throne of God." To see where the throne is, follow Orion from the picture above to the picture below. At the high end of the Milky Way, the sun rises over Orion's body, to where his head would be. The outline of Lepus below looks like a throne, and the outline of Gemini looks like a pharaoh's hat.
1Then he showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Rev. 22:1-2)
So then, the Milky Way is the river to the Tree of Life. In other parlance, it is the cloud of heaven from where Jesus will come to whisk believers off to heaven. It is the path that takes the souls of the dead to meet God. Perseus with his sword guards the river in the middle. The Cherubim guard the river at each end and at the sides. The lion is on the right and the ox is on the left, both watching the river. Orion, the man, guards the river by the front and Aquila the eagle guards the back. When the sun is at the summer solstice over Orion's body, God is said to be on his throne.
16"O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, who art enthroned above the cherubim, thou art the God, thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. (Isa. 37:16)
Genesis places the Tree of Life in the midst of the garden. That would imply in the center at the pole. We can imagine the imaginary pole line as the trunk of the tree. The celestial sphere or firmament represents the branches. And, according to Revelation, the twelve constellations of the Zodiac are the fruit.
9And out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (Gen. 2:9)
The brightest stars in these constellations are fairly bright. With #1 ranking as the brightest:
Aldebaran, 0.85 pale red, #14 Altair, 0.77, white, #12, Betelgeuse 0.5 red, #10 Mirfak, 1.8, brilliant yellow, #33 Regulus 1.4 blue-white, #21
Perhaps they serve to light the way up the River of Life.

CUANDO LOS CATOLICOS SE PERSIGNAN EN REALIDAD ELLOS HACEN REFERENCIA, EN CONTEXTO A MATEO 28:19,20 A LA CRUZ GALACTICA-CONCRETAMENTE LA REFERENCIA, ESOTERICAMENTE HABLANDO POR SUPUESTO, ES AL SANTO GRIAL.

28:20 NIV)

Part Five - Greek: Aion (Age)
This is the last of five articles on the Greek words. We are going to study the Preterist's view on the Greek word "aion" which means "age (dispensation, or indefinite time), era, or a period of time." When you see the phase the "age" in the NT, ask yourself, which age? Or the end of which age? In Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the NT we read, "As the Jews distinguished the time before the Messiah, and the time after the advent of the Messiah" (p. 19). It describes human history as divided up into two ages. The NT writers considered themselves to have been living at a terminal point of these ages. This did not mean that history was to end in their generation but they were anticipating an age to come.
Some English Bible translations use the word "world" instead of "age." We need to be careful to examine how the English word is used like "world" because there are three different Greek words with one English word that are "kosmos," "oikoumene," and "aion." We ought to check the meaning of the Greek word to get a correct interpretation of the Bible. It is very significant to understand eschatology because in this area many Futurist views have stumbled.
A critical error for many Futurists is made when the Mosaic Age is considered as being consummated at the cross. They believe the Church Age will end at the parousia of Christ or the cataclysmic and final end of the world. But what age do we call the age after the Church age? Nothing. Many of the Futurist's believe we are living in the last days. I don't think so and I will show you.
In these passages in the NT, we have two ages in contrast: "This age" and the "age to come." The expression "age to come" implies that "this age" must come to end. Will the "age to come" also have an end? If not, then the expression "last days" must apply to the closing period of "this age." So, in the end of "this age" (the Old Covenant) is when God's eschatological program will be completed or consummated. In other words, time was divided by the Jews into two great periods, the Mosaic Age and the Messianic Age. The Mosaic Age is done away and we have been in the age of the Messianic administration of the new covenant since 70 AD. Hence, from from 30-70 AD (40 years = a generation), the church was in the period of transition, changing from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant. It is the period of the bondwoman (Hagar is Mt. Sinai) and the free woman (Sarah is the Jerusalem above). Read Gal. 4:21-31. The bondwoman (Israel) was cast out (70 AD) and we are children of the free woman (Church).
Before we go further, I think we can look into the rabbinical writings from the early second century. It is interesting that many Rabbis believed that the period of the Messiah was to be only a transition stage between this age and the Age to Come, and opinions differed on the time of its duration. 'How long will the days of Messiah last?' R. Akiba [c. 120-140 AD] said, Forty years, as long as the Israelites were in the wilderness. ... R. Eliezer (b. Hyrcanus) [c. 80-120 AD] said, A thousand years. ... Other versions read: 'R. Eliezer [c. 80-120 AD] said, The days of the Messiah will be forty years. ...[quoted from Everyman's Talmud, by Abraham Cohen, pub. by E.P. Dutton & Co., 1949. Page 356]. They debate how long will this period would be. Many believe it would be a generation of about 40 years, like the wilderness wandering or the reigns of David and Solomon, even though others thought of it as a thousand years.
Also read in Luke 19:11-27 from the parable of Jesus Christ. Verse 11 says that some Jews supposed that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. Jesus told them a parable of the nobleman. Notice in verse 12 that the nobleman is getting ready to leave to a far country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then return. We know from the rest of the story that the nobleman is Jesus, the slaves are the servants of God, and the citizens that hate Jesus are the Jews. The nobleman returns in their lifetime. The point is, before Jesus went up into heaven He told the disciples to do their duty before He came back. Jesus went up to a far place (heaven) to receive a kingdom for Himself (Dan. 7:13-14). We know what happened to His disciples and what the Jews did to them. Finally, Jesus returned and slew His enemies in 70 AD. He brought His kingdom of which the saints took possession (Dan. 7:22-27; Matt. 21:43-45). Also read in Luke 19:41-44. I Hope this will give you a better idea.
We will look into the eschatological passages of the Bible with the Greek word "aion." I am using the NASB.
1. Matt. 12:32 - "And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or the age [about] to come." Why did the Lord say it shall not be forgiven, either this age OR the age about to come? Because these two ages will always have the sin of men.
2. Matt. 13:39, 40 - "And the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. Therefore just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age." Read Matt. 13:38-43. This is significant in light of Rev. 14. (C.f. Rev. 20) and the imminence of the harvest. Jesus said the harvest was to occur at the end of the age in His generation. This is CRITICAL because you will see the phase "end of the age" in the NT. Read Matt. 24:3 and 34 which is very helpful to understand the timeline in the eschatology study. This is a real dilemma for the Futurist's views.
3. Matt. 13:49, 50 - "So it will be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth, and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Read Matt. 13:47-50. The same idea as previously mentioned (#2). Jesus spoke another parable about the kingdom of heaven. This is important in light of Matt. 25:31-46 (c.f. Mark 8:38 - 9:1) where Jesus was speaking of the first-century generation. Specifically, Jesus was speaking to His disciples of when He would come in the glory of His Father with the holy angels at the end of the age.
4. Matt. 24:3 - "And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, 'Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age." Most Bible interpreters think that the disciples wanted to know about the end of the planet. However, the disciples did not ask about the end of the "world" (Gk: kosmos or oikoumene). So, they asked about the end of the aion (age). As Jesus' disciples had just heard His prediction of "desolation" for the temple and city, they no doubt felt bewildered and wondered, "Lord, you cannot mean this temple!" Read Matt. 23:31-38. They must have been astonished when Jesus told them that the temple was going to be destroyed, with not one stone left upon another (Matt. 24:1-2). According to the eyewitness, Josephus, after the temple was destroyed, "Caesar [Titus] gave orders that they should now demolish the entire city and temple, ...which the Roman valor had subdued; but for all the rest of the wall, it was so thoroughly laid even with the ground by those that dug it up to the foundation, that there was left nothing to make those that came thither believe it had ever been inhabited" (Wars of the Jews; VII.I.1).
Compare two parallel passages in Mark 13:4, 'Tell us (disciples), when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?' and in Luke 21:7, 'And they questioned Him, saying, "Teacher, when therefore will these things be? And what will be the sign when these things are [about] to take place?" In Matt. 24, the Lord answered to the disciples' questions that all of these events will be upon "this generation" (v. 34; Mark 13:30; Luke 21:31). No argument and case closed.
I want to emphasize that anytime you see the term "the end," it does not mean the end of the physical universe or the end of our earthly life. It means the end of the Mosaic Covenant. In this context of Matt. 24, you will notice "the end" three times in verses 6, 13, 14. The question is, when would "the end" be? Clearly Jesus answered that question with the phrase, "this generation" in verse 34. It means within 40 years, which would fall sometime between 30-70 AD. Check the other passages with the term "the end" in Matt. 10:22; 13:39, 40, 49; 28:20; Mark 13:7, 13; Luke 21:9; 1 Cor. 1:8; 10:11; 15:24; Heb. 3:6, 14; 6:11; 9:26; 1 Peter 4:7; Rev. 2:26. Hopefully this will make sense to you.
5. Matt. 28:20 - "Teaching them to observe all that I command you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Read Matt. 28:18-20. Jesus told His disciples He will always be with them even to the end of the (Old Covenant) age. Our Lord did not mean to teach or imply that after the age ended, He would no longer be with them. The end of that age was a goal in eschatology or the scheme of redemption. Jesus was assuring His disciples that He would be with them without fail and of course, continue after 70 AD.
6. Mark 10:30 (Luke 18:30) - "But that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life." Read Mark 10:28-31. This one may not be clear but I think Matt. 19:28 would be helpful. It says, "Truly I say to you that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." What a statement! Jesus was saying they will judging the twelve tribes of Israel (Luke 22:28-30; Rev. 20:4-15) during the destruction of Jerusalem in 66-70 AD. That was the end of the Jewish age and we are in the age to come, the eternal life.
7. Luke 20:34-36 - "And Jesus said to them, 'The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, not are given in marriage; for neither can they die anymore, for they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection." Jesus knew the Sadducees were testing Him. He was talking about the age to come in the first century when the resurrection would occur and the people would not marry or die anymore. They would be like angels. This is what Paul explains in 1 Cor. 15:35-50. At death the elect shed their physical bodies, and continue living in their spiritual immortal bodies with God in heaven forever. It is not raised a physical body and then changed. Those of us who are in Christ have passed out of death and judgment into life and resurrection in the presence of God. That is why the Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection. But the Pharisees believed in the physical, fleshly resurrection as many Futurists do.
8. 1 Cor. 2:6-8 - "Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages to our glory; the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." Paul was saying that if the rulers of this age (those who crucified Christ) had understood, they would not have killed Jesus. But God already predestined from the ages past that that would occur. At that time of writing, THIS (Old Covenant) AGE IS PASSING AWAY!
9. 1 Cor. 10:11 - "Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come." Read 1 Cor. 10:1-11. Paul admonished the Corinthians church to avoid the same mistakes as Israel did while they were in the wilderness with Moses. They were written for their instruction because the ENDS OF THE AGES HAVE COME in their generation.
10. 2 Cor. 4:4 - "In whose case the god of this world [age] has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." This seems to me that Satan had blinded many unbelievers in that age (before 70 AD). In Rom. 16:20 Paul says that shortly Satan would be crushed (Gen. 3:15). His power to oppose the consummation of redemption is over.
11. Eph. 1:21 - "Far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one [age] to come." Notice how Paul's anticipation can seen in his recognition of the supremacy of Jesus Christ - far above all things, every name that is named, not only in THIS AGE, BUT ALSO THE ONE (AGE) TO COME. Every name that is named in all generations, ages without end. Phil. 2:9-11 says, 'Therefore also God highly exalted (past tense) Him, and bestowed (past tense) on Him, the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father' (emphasis mine - DWH).
12. Eph 2:7 - "In order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." Paul was saying after the consummation of all things (the scheme of redemption, not of the creation) Jesus Christ would show the surpassing riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness toward us. In other words, we can see in the Bible from the Fall of Man, God clothed Adam and Eve with the garments of skin, a type of Christ and He made a promise. We can see that the meaning of the sacrifice and the atonement was progressively given by OT revelation. Then, finally at the end of the age God delivered us from sin, death, Hades, and Satan through His Son. We can see the grace of God throughout history. The scheme of redemption is completed. So is the Bible.
13. Heb. 1:1-2 - "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world [ages]." Since God spoke in the OT in many parts and in many ways, finally in the LAST DAYS He had spoken in the first century generation through His Son. Jesus was in the last days of the Old Covenant period. The New Covenant age is "the eternal covenant" (Heb. 13:20) and an everlasting age has no "last days." So, the Old Covenant age has become obsolete and it passed away in the 70 AD judgment and destruction of Jerusalem (Heb. 8:13). The "world" is not the correct term in the English translation and it might cause some confusion or misunderstanding. The word should be "ages." God made two "ages," the Old Covenant and the New Covenant.
14. Heb. 6:5 - "And have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age [about] to come." Clearly, the writer knew that the age was about to come when Jesus returns.
15. Heb. 9:26 - "Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself." Read carefully because it is CRITICAL. Notice it says, "But now once at the consummation of the ages He has put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself." Obviously Jesus was in the last days of the Old Covenant or Mosaic Age when He died on the cross.
16. Heb. 11:3 - "By faith we understand that the worlds [age] were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible." Again, the word "worlds" is not the correct term in Greek and it should be "ages" that were prepared by the Word of God.
In conclusion, we have studied five articles with the Greek words with some historical background, and let the Scripture interpret the Scripture. In my opinion, the Preterist view is the most simple and straightforward of all the eschatology views, if we let the Scripture speak for itself. Otherwise we will face out the hermeneutic gymnastics or dividing the Word of God that can confuse us.
The Preterist's perspective only seems strange to many Christians today because they have not done any serious study or "homework" on their own. Most of time they receive their instruction from "Christian" preachers, books, or television. Many people in the churches, and the pastors alike, would rather read the footnotes from the Bible (like Ryrie or Scofield or any "Study Bible") than study the scriptures for themselves. Some of them are very ignorant in the history of the Church, the Greek words, or the sound biblical interpretation. That is a shame!
I urge you in the presence of God, study to show yourself approved to God by handling accurately the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15) as the Bereans did (Acts 17:11). Examine everything carefully; hold fast what is good (1 Thes. 5:21). If you do that, be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you with gentleness and reverence (1 Peter 3:15). If some of you are teachers or want to become a teacher, we shall incur a stricter judgment (James 3:1). We are accountable before our Lord. This is our duty.
The Bible is concerned with redemption history, not world history or the destruction of the creation world. I like the way Ed Stevens wrote, "Bible prophecy can be understood, but Futurist views have fallen far short for many reasons: their extreme physical/literalizing approach, their seeming inability to distinguish between figurative and literal language, and their failure to properly take into account the historical-grammatical-cultural context of the prophecies (specifically what they meant to their original audience). Even the most difficult prophetic passage comes alive when approached properly. It is time to look at some alternatives, and the Preterist view is a great place to start."
I pray that these five articles I wrote will help you to understand the Scripture better and cause you to reexamine your eschatology view.
In the Beloved (Christ), we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, Amen (Eph. 1:7).
