The Son of Man in the Gospels can be traced to the constellation Orion which represents Jesus' Spirit. Background for this report can be found in Gospel Zodiac, Jesus' Ghost and Pillar of Cloud. They explain how Jesus allegorizes the sun, the nature of Jesus' Spirit and the role the Milky Way plays in apocalyptic prophecies. This report explains the astrological significance of Son of Man.
Introduction
One of the imperatives in Christian mythology is the belief that the world as we know it will end someday. God will overthrow the forces of evil and all who side with them, and only those who repent and follow Jesus' teachings will be allowed to enter the new Kingdom of God. Jesus and Paul mention it often and the Book of Revelation is devoted to it.
Many passages attest that Jesus expected the end of the world to come in his time, not thousands of years later. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus refers to some mysterious Son of man, a cosmic judge sent from heaven who would destroy whoever opposes God and reward those who are faithful.
Who this Son of man? The popular claim has it that Jesus was referring to himself in the third person. It's plausible because many passages fit the course of Jesus' ministry. What is suspicious about this rationale is that Jesus appears to be describing someone else.
38For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
1And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power." (Mark 8:38-9:1)
I submit that Christian reasoning is entirely wrong. When Christians read the predictions of the end of the world, they are waiting for events to unfold on earth. Even after 2,000 years of false alarms, they have not lost patience, and I don't know if they will ever admit that maybe they are misreading the New Testament.
Such a calamity cannot happen as the Bible predicts. Something on that scale would take an event like a large meteor to hit earth. In such a case, a meteor would not care who is faithful to Jesus. If there was a nuclear war, bombs would be guided by human stupidity, not divine intelligence. If any other catastrophe happens on that scale, earth would not be a very pleasant place for the survivors. Whatever the cause of mass destruction, faith will not protect anybody. Even worse, if the entire world was destroyed, as devout Christians believe, there would be no survivors.
What confuses modern readers is the way the Bible's writers coded their belief in the power of the stars as if they affected life on earth. The matter before us is to decipher their writings for what they meant to ancients, not to what modern believers want to believe.
For this reason, we will examine the Bible from an astronomical point of view. It was a time when ancients perceived the stars in heaven as patterns to be interpreted as God's divine plan for life on earth. The sun was especially important to them because they understood that life on earth depended on it.
There are three clues which clarify what they were writing about. The first describes the Son of man as the constellation Orion. The second relates the yearly sun cycle to the end of the world. The third tracks Orion with the sun cycle. There can be no other conclusion except that the idea of a supernatural God was conceived as a ruse to mislead faithful Christians.
The Son of man
Three passages define the Son of man in physical form.
The first appears in the apocalyptic writings of the Book of Daniel, where Daniel describes the Son of man as riding on the clouds of heaven to the "Ancient of days" to give him everlasting dominion over the new kingdom of heaven.
13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. (Dan. 7:13-14)
Revelation's description of the Son of man fits the pattern of stars in the constellation Orion. The star on his right shoulder is bright red (upper left star). The three stars at his waste were later seen as the three wise men who announced the birth of Jesus.
12Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,
13and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast;
14his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire,
15his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters;
16in his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth issued a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. (Rev. 1:12-20)
The Son of man has a cluster of stars in the background that look like the clouds upon which the Son of man rides. Astronomical maps show the Milky Way behind the constellation Orion. From earth, they look like clouds.
14And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
(Rev. 14:14-20)

Orion as seen in human form. His right hand could be holding a sickle or a club. His left hand could be holding an animal skin, a shield or a bow. The Milky Way is behind him. The arc above him represents the sun's path. The line going through his waste is the celestial equator which runs parallel to earth's equator.
Orion's legacy
After the Big Dipper, Orion is perhaps the next most celebrated constellation in the winter sky. Mythologies about Orion probably originated from the Egyptians thousands of years ago and extended to the Greeks at the turn of the first century. It is a very important constellation to astral religions and easy to recognize.
To the ancient Egyptians, Orion was Osiris the God of Light. Set was Orisis' brother and the God of Darkness. According to legend, Orisis was murdered by his evil brother Set, who tore his body into pieces and scattered the fragments. Isis, Osiris' wife, managed to put him back together except for his phallus, which had been swallowed by a fish. She made an artificial phallus and breathed into his body to restore his soul. Thereafter, he rose to the sky.
In one period, Orion represented the Egyptian god of the dead and the first king of Egypt. After death, the pharaoh was thought to mystically inseminate the stars to ensure that, through Osiris, Horus the sun god would be reborn as his successor.
In one Greek myth, Orion was the son of Neptune and the nymph Euryale. He was of gigantic size, strength and beauty. He was so tall that he could walk through deep water without wetting his head. His hubris invoked Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth to send a scorpion to kill him. His fall to earth can be seen when the stars of Orion sink defeated below the western horizon and the stars of Scorpion are just rising in the east.
The next night he rises again, saved by Ophiuchus, the Doctor of Antiquity who gave him an antidote for the scorpions poison. This can be seen when the Scorpion sets in the southwest with Ophiuchus standing over him as a symbol of the antidote. Later, when Ophiuchus sets in the west, Orion comes up from the east, fully recovered.
In these myths alone we see fragments of Christian mythology. Gods die and are restored to life. They are given a soul by being breathed into and they fall to earth as Adam did. The scorpion brings death as Judas did to Jesus. There is the eternal conflict between light and dark. (See Light verses Dark)
The timing of Orion's cycle fits with the birth of Jesus on December 25. It makes its first appearance in the east in mid December each year. And as the season progresses, Orion rises with the sun and sets in the west three days before it rises in the east again.
With the sun personified as Jesus, it is accurate to think of Orion as a constellation in synch with the sun's cycle. In a sense they are like conjoined twins who suffer the same fate. This is why the confusion about whether Jesus is referring to himself as the Son of Man in the third person or whether the Son of Man is some cosmic judge.
The sun cycle
In allegorical language, the sun goes through four seasonal cycles. It is born on December 25 when daylight hours start to increase. At about this same time Orion rises in the east with its three belt stars as the three wise men. As Orion rises, the star Sirius ascends above the horizon as the star of Bethlehem. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
The powers of darkness are still in power, but as the daylight hours increase, it is seen as overcoming the forces that try to stop it. In the Gospels, this is when Jesus is born and when his parents take him away to keep Herod from killing him.
At the spring equinox it has entered the gates of heaven when daylight hours start to emerge more powerful than the dark evil forces. Jesus' mission starts in the spring when he collects his disciples and builds a following.
At the summer solstice, when the sun is the highest in the sky, the sun is on its throne. In the following summer months, as the sun descends, it is still strong, but it is weakening as the dark forces start to make war against it. To show his strength, Jesus performs miracles and exorcises demons. At this time Orion is at the height of its ascent.
When the sun passes through the fall equinox, it enters the gates to hell. Night time hours start to lengthen and the dark forces are said to be fighting their way back to power. The sun continues to weaken until it dies for three days following December 21. This is when Jesus is betrayed by Judas and is taken to trial and executed. Allegorically, this is the end of the world.
On December 25, the sun is resurrected and the cycle repeats.
This cycle is not unique to Christianity; it plays out through the mythologies of resurrected gods. It was the age of fable when the constellations were assigned the names of gods. There was Hercules who died on his twelfth labor like Jesus. There is Jason and the Argonauts with their ship Argo, reminiscent of Noah's ark. The constellation Perseus holding the head of Medusa looks like David holding the head of Goliath. There are creation myths, supreme gods who mate with virgins, giants, serpents and a host of other characters like those in the Bible.
The Bible cannot be understood by those who are so blinded with faith that they keep their heads buried in the ground trying to make historical sense out of it. Look up to the sky. The keys to unlocking the secrets of the Bible can be found with a map of the constellations and a good book on star mythology. biblical Omens
In Mark chapter 13, there is an allegorical summary of the astronomical omens that lead to the end of the world. They start when the sun is at full power at its highest position on the horizon to when it descends to its death at the lowest position.
1. When the sun is at the summer solstice in Gemini, Jesus predicted that some day the temple will be destroyed. His disciples wanted to know what sign they should look for to know when this event will happen. In biblespeak, "sign" denotes astrological signs.
1And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!"
2And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down."
3And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
4"Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished?" (Mark 13:1-4)
2. After the sun passes the high point of the summer solstice it descends lower with each passing day. Allegorically, the sun is weakening because the dark forces of evil are said to waging war against it. The wars are just beginning.
The sun starts to descend in the house of Cancer. It is usually a time of hesitation, so Jesus warns what to expect and not to be alarmed.
7And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is not yet.
8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs.
9"But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them. (Mark 13:7-8)
3. The wars between light and dark intensify as the days get shorter. The sun is still strong, but the forces of evil are gaining power.
The house of Leo brings strength from the new harvest. So Jesus says to be strong against adversity and you will be saved.
11And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
12And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;
13and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
14"But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; (Mark 13:11-14)
4. Virgo is the last house before the sun descends into hell-Virgo is described as a nursing mother. There is no turning back.
15let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything away;
16and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle.
17And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck [Virgo] in those days! (Mark 13:15-17)
5. The sun has passed the fall equinox into Scorpio. The days are getting progressively shorter than the nights. According to Jesus, if the days did not get shorter, no one could be saved, so God shortened the days. Pray that the sign doesn't happen in winter because it is the worst of times. If the days are still getting shorter and someone says the Christ has come, do not believe them. It is not the right time.
18Pray that it may not happen in winter.
19For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be.
20And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days.
21And then if any one says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it.
22False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
23But take heed; I have told you all things beforehand. (Mark 13:18-23)
6. The sun is in Sagittarius as the sun descends to its lowest point on the horizon. On the darkest days of the winter when the moon does not give light, the Son of man will come in clouds. The Son of man in clouds can be seen in the picture above. Below, the next frame shows the son of men descending on December 21.
24"But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light,
25and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
26And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
27And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. (Mark 13:24-27)
7. You will know he is near the gates to heaven (the spring equinox) when fig trees start to grow leaves.
28"From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.
29So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. (Mark 13:28-29)
8. This generation will see these things take place. -He means his generation.
30Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place.
31Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Mark 13:30-31)
In the first century on December 21 at midnight, when the sun is darkened and the moon does not give up its light, the Son of man can be seen descending to earth. A month later it disappears from view.
Orion ascends in the east three days after its disappearance in the west.

Here is an interesting read on Stargates and 19.47
In terms of Richard Hoagland's ' hyperdimensional physics' derived from the geometric 'message' of Cydonia (Mars), the conduit or 'stargate' between this world  and the Otherworld (i.e. hyperspace) is prominently represented by the angle 19.5°. According to the theory, it is the tetrahedral geometry signified by this angle that enables inter-dimensional energy transfer between the two realms.
 This 'stargate' geometry is expressed by a circumscribed tetrahedron (made up of four equilateral triangles). Interestingly enough, the hieroglyphic sign denoting Sirius was a triangle in ancient Egypt.
The connection is made evident by archaeo-astronomy. First, it is widely accepted these days that the 'air shafts' inside the Great Pyramid were designed to aligned with certain stars. One was specifically targeted toward Sirius in c. 2350 BC.
And at that pinpointed time (c. 2350 BC), Sirius and Orion's Alnitak (representing the Great Pyramid as per the Orion Correlation Theory) together produced the angle 19.5° (when Sirius was rising on the Giza horizon).[10]
 
Next, it is natural - given the Sirius-Great Bend connection - to wonder about the possibility of the Nile's 'Winding Waterway' having some relevance to tetrahedral geometry. Indeed, we do find a clear connection!
Believe it or not, the northern peak of the Great Bend precisely pinpoints the tetrahedral/stargate latitude, 19.5°N.!
What's even more incredible is the fact that the same Bend peak also pinpoints 33°E longitude. As those familiar with Hoagland's work would surely know, '33' and '19.5' are considered the two key numbers in the 'hyperdimensional code'! (Hoagland is just not yet aware of this Nile connection.)
In 1997, the esoteric importance of those numbers was overtly demonstrated as NASA landed a tetrahedron-shaped Mars Pathfinder lander on the Red Planet at 19.5 N and 33 W.! (That's pretty in your face, isn't it?)

Considerando que en el 4 de Julio (Dia de la Independencia de EEUU) esta alineado el sol, la tierra y Sirio y que hasta el 6 de Agosto (orto heliaco de Sirio) tenemos 33 dias. En el contexto a que el alineamiendo de la tierra, del sol y Orion es el 19 de Junio y 19 de Septiembre, es curioso que si sumamos al 19 de Junio 33 dias llegamos al 22 de Julio que es justo el dia de MARIA MAGDALENA SEGUN LA IGLESIA CATOLICA (ya vamos a confirmar si es cierto este dato). En el contexto a que el alineamiento de las PLEYADES, con el SOL Y LA TIERRA, es el 20 de Mayo y el 20 de Noviembre, nos daria como 22 de Junio el ORTO HELIACO DE LAS PLEYADES. |

MERCURIO
La particularidad de esta línea de perihelio/afelio de Mercurio es que está alineada con la Línea fija formada por Orión/Sol/CentroGaláctico, y como la Tierra pasa cada 19 de junio entre el Sol y el Centro galáctico, eso significa que también en ese día pasa frente al afelio de la órbita Mercurio, y frente al perihelio el 19 de diciembre.
Si "eliminamos" la excentricidad y convertimos la órbita de Mercurio es un círculo racional perfectamente equidistante del Sol, resulta que la órbita de Mercurio inscribe a un pentágono (inscrito en la órbita "perfeccionada" de Mercurio), y este pentágono es la figura interior que resulta de la estrella de 5 puntas formada por la Tierra y Venus durante 8 órbitas de la Tierra y 13 de Venus (8 años), lo cual es el Ciclo Pentagonal.

El Cinturón de Orión o Las Tres Marías

Soy un ferviente admirador de la cultura popular, el saber secular que la tradición se encargó de transmitir de forma oral a través de las generaciones. Nuestros mayores, hace sólo unas décadas, fueron  herederos de enormes caudales del conocimiento humanístico que, en todos los órdenes del saber, fueron enriquecidos paulatinamente por la propia experiencia del vivir cotidiano de las gentes del pueblo. Ellos, los abuelos, llegaron a conocer por vía de la tradición oral diversas realidades que la ciencia trataba de descubrir, con evidente desventaja.
Así, todo el mundo había oído hablar (en el Hemisferio Norte) del Carro, aunque muy pocos supieran que su nombre oficial era la Osa Mayor, y en todos los lugares las personas podían localizar sin  dificultad a Las Siete Hermanas, o Las Siete Cabritillas, que eran los nombres que les daban a Las Pléyades. Otro asterismo era identificado por la inmensa mayoría de la población: Las Tres Marías. Llamadas en otros lugares Los Tres Reyes Magos, aún hoy podemos preguntar a los más ancianos del lugar (y en muchos sitios a personas de menos edad), y de inmediato nos señalarán hacia las tres estrellas del… ¡Cinturón de Orión!.
 Muchas de estas personas no sabían leer ni escribir, ya que ni siquiera habían pisado la escuela en toda su existencia, pero conocían y sabían localizar en los cielos a todos estos astros y otros, de toda condición y naturaleza (piénsese en las Lágrimas de San Lorenzo para designar a las Perseidas o en el Lucero del Alba para Venus), aunque les dieran otros nombres. Pero esta cuestión era lo de menos.
El Cinturón de Orión (o Las Tres Marías, o Los Tres Reyes Magos) es un destacado asterismo formado por tres estrellas de primera y segunda  magnitud, perfectamente visibles desde cualquier lugar del planeta. Es parte de la Constelación de Orión, que también constituye una de las más conocidas, junto con la Osa Mayor en el Hemisferio Norte y la Cruz del Sur en latitudes australes. Situada sobre el ecuador celeste, el brillo de sus estrellas más destacadas la hace fácilmente localizable en los meses del invierno boreal, el verano austral.
Rígel y Betelgeuse son estrellas situadas entre las diez más brillantes del cielo nocturno; Bellatrix y Saiph completan con las dos anteriores un “cuadrilátero mágico” representando las cuatro extremidades del gigante cazador. Hatysa (Iota Orionis, ι Ori)) en la Espada, Tabit (Pi3 Orionis, π 3 Ori) en el escudo y Meissa (Lambda Orionis, λ Ori) en la cabeza son las otras luminarias con nombre propio en Orión, junto a las tres del Cinturón, aunque hay que destacar a otras estrellas con denominación de Bayer, como Sigma (σ Ori), Eta (η Ori) y Tau Orionis (τ Ori).

Pero aún no había dedicado ningún monográfico al asterismo que es, quizás, el rey en la Astronomía tradicional en el acervo cultural de las gentes sencillas del norte y del sur: Las Tres Marías, o sea, El Cinturón de Orión, pues el popular Carro no se ve desde todo el planeta, y lo mismo ocurre con la Cruz del Sur.

En la siguiente imagen nos haremos una idea del tipo de astros que visitaremos. Se trata de estrellas enormes, en comparación con nuestro Sol, y muy calientes, también con relación a nuestra estrella.
Alnitak, Alnilam y Mintaka, pues así se llaman las tres estrellas que forman el Cinturón, son tres gigantes azules con un brillo tan intenso que son fácilmente visibles incluso desde los cielos razonablemente  contaminados del extrarradio de la ciudad. De primera y segunda magnitud, se sitúan en el ecuador celeste, siendo Mintaka la más próxima a esta imaginaria línea divisoria entre ambos hemisferios; se alinean en dirección sureste, apuntando directamente a Sirio (α CMa) en ese sentido, y a Aldebarán (α Tau) en dirección contraria, hacia el noroeste, así es que constituye la mejor referencia para la orientación en el cielo nocturno en las frías noches del invierno boreal, o en las veladas calurosas australes cuando enero (y febrero) funde su calor sobre el Paraná.
Además de las tres estrellas, formadas a partir del material de la nube interestelar que las rodea, y que seguidamente estudiaremos, encontramos en la región al cúmulo Collinder 70, o Cr 70, un rico campo estrellado alrededor de la zona central del Cinturón, en torno a  Alnilam, y a las interesantísimas nebulosas de la Cabeza de Caballo y de la Flama, en las proximidades de Alnitak y de Sigma Orionis. Rendiremos visita a estos objetos. Situadas un poco más al sur, la Gran Nebulosa de Orión (M42), también originada a partir de la misma nube molecular, y la brillante Hatysa, en la Espada, completarán un vecindario verdaderamente exclusivo.
Aunque la mayoría de los estudios sobre el Cinturón de Orión se desarrollan a partir de Alnitak, de izquierda a derecha según el punto de vista boreal, hoy yo preferiré hacerlo justamente al contrario, pues es esa estrella, Alnitak, la que aglutina a su alrededor las dos nebulosas que veremos, de manera que tratarla en último lugar servirá de nexo de unión entre estrellas y cielo profundo en nuestro artículo. Éste es el punto de vista austral, con Mintaka, que trataremos en primer lugar, a la izquierda…
…y ésta la carta celeste, también como la fotografía anterior de Sur Astronómico, de la misma región del cielo, según la ven los observadores situados al sur del ecuador:
Mintaka (Delta Orionis o δ Ori), del árabe منطقة manţaqah, el Cinturón, es la más occidental y también la más tenue de las tres estrellas. Es sin embargo perfectamente visible, a sólo 0.3 grados (18 minutos) al sur del ecuador celeste pues presenta una magnitud visual de +2.21, aunque hay que anotar que se trata de un sistema estelar múltiple,  bastante complejo. La componente principal es una gigante azul de tipo espectral O9.5II, y 30.000 ºK de temperatura superficial. Tiene una compañera de séptima magnitud, a casi un minuto de arco de distancia, lo que se traduce en una separación real aproximada de un cuarto de año-luz. Todavía, Mintaka A posee una acompañante de 14ª magnitud, y cada una de estas dos es 90.000 veces más luminosa que el Sol, y 20 veces más masiva. El sistema parece situarse a unos 915 años-luz del Sistema Solar, casi la misma distancia que Alnitak, en el otro extremo del Cinturón, y bastante más cercana que Alnilam, la estrella que ocupa el centro.
Alnilam (Epsilon Orionis o ε Ori), de النظام, an-Niżām, también árabe, el Hilo de Perlas, a pesar de ser la más distante, es la más brillante de las tres. Se sitúa en el centro del Cinturón, a una distancia de 2 grados escasos entre las otras dos, Mintaka al noroeste y Alnitak al sudeste,  y sólo un grado por debajo del ecuador celeste. Veremos que para los guaraníes era la madre de las dos. Se trata de una supergigante azul, de tipo espectral B0I y magnitud visual +1.70 que dista de la Tierra 1.359 años-luz. Es un astro magnífico, 26 veces más grande que el Sol y mucho más caliente, pues posee una temperatura superficial de 25.000 ºK. La enorme cantidad de energía que irradia le confiere una luminosidad 375.000 veces más intensa que la de nuestra estrella. Es extraordinariamente masiva, unas 20 veces la masa del  Sol, lo que le abocará indefectiblemente a convertirse en una supergigante roja y luego explotar en supernova, como todas las estrellas que superan en más de 10 veces la masa de nuestro Sol. Esto le hace expulsar una gran cantidad de materia, con vientos estelares que superan los 2.000 kilómetros por segundo. No, 2.000 kilómetros por hora no, por segundo. Es muy joven, pues se calcula que se formó hace sólo 4 millones de años, pero no vivirá mucho más, otro millón de años, o quizás menos, aunque tras explotar en supernova, el material que resulte podrá ser el origen de nuevos sistemas planetarios que se formen mucho después.
Alrededor de Alnilam, y extendiéndose por todo el Cinturón, se sitúa el cúmulo estelar Collinder 70, o Cr 70, compuesto por unas 125 estrellas. Dada su extensión, la mejor forma de observarlo es con binoculares a 7 aumentos, a 10 como máximo, que es cuando obtendremos un campo visual más amplio.
Alnitak (Zeta Orionis o ζ Ori), asimismo procedente del árabe النطاق an-niṭāq, y que también significa El Cinturón, es por fin la más oriental de las tres estrellas que componen este asterismo, y también la más meridional, aunque sólo se sitúa unos 2 grados al sur del ecuador  celeste. Es un sistema triple cuya componente principal es una supergigante de color azul y tipo espectral O9.7I que presenta magnitud visual conjunta de +1.89, muy caliente, pues su temperatura superficial es de unos 31.000 ºK. Situada a 826 años-luz de nosotros, su luminosidad equivale a 100.000 veces la del Sol, si se incluye la radiación ultravioleta, y es 20 veces más masiva. El calor que irradia es tal que, situada en el lugar de nuestra estrella, derritiría a todos los planetas. Un astro como la Tierra tendría que  situarse 300 veces más lejos de lo que está, para tener condiciones de habitabilidad. Los vientos estelares, consecuencia de la intensa emisión de rayos X, alcanzan velocidades similares a las de Alnilam, unos 2.000 kilómetros por segundo, excitando la nube de gas y polvo que la circunda, y donde se encuentran las nebulosas de la Flama y de la Cabeza de Caballo. Es también una joven estrella, pues hace sólo 6 millones de años que se formó, y también morirá pronto, consecuencia de su transformación de supergigante roja y su posterior explosión en supernova.

La intensa radiación de Alnitak, como ya apuntamos, provoca la ionización del hidrógeno contenido en la cercana Nebulosa de la Flama, o de la Llama, pues el color rojo que se origina en tales procesos dan a la zona el aspecto de estar ardiendo. Consiste este  proceso en que el hidrógeno es despojado de sus electrones por los fuertes vientos de la estrella y la energía que se desprende al recombinarse los iones de hidrógeno con los electrones produce esa radiación de color rojo, pero la zona no está en llamas, en absoluto. Sin embargo, Alnitak no es la unica responsable de la actividad iónica del hidrógeno presente en la zona, sino que existe un cúmulo de estrellas, que se oculta tras la franja oscura del centro de la imagen, que ha sido visto en el infrarrojo, y que parece contener a la verdadera estrella excitatriz de la región. La nebulosa de la Flama tiene el número NGC 2024.
Un poco más al sur, entre Alnitak y Sigma Orionis, encontramos a la magnífica y celebérrima Nebulosa Cabeza de Caballo. Es una fría nube oscura de gas y polvo situada a la distancia de 1.500 años-luz de  nosotros, y que resalta sobre el fondo rojo incandescente de IC434, una nebulosa de emisión que se encuentra detrás. La Cabeza de Caballo mide unos 6 años-luz de un extremo a otro y se cataloga como Barnard 33, o más brevemente, B33. Fue descubierta en 1.888 por fotógrafos del Observatorio del Harvard College. La forma de la nebulosa, que claramente explica el nombre que se le dio, es casual, naturalmente, y los movimientos internos en su seno harán que en unos millones de año sea totalmente distinta.
Leyendas y mitos
 Como Las Tres Marías son suficientemente brillantes, y están situadas prácticamente en el ecuador celeste pudiéndose observar desde cualquier lugar del orbe, han sido conocidas por todos los pueblos y culturas de la Tierra. Los mayas, por ejemplo, las llamaban Las Tres Piedras del Fogón, la llama del Hogar que nunca se apaga y donde se  cocinan los alimentos; además, Alnitak forma, junto con Rígel y Saiph, las Tres Piedras del Corazón. Los indios guaraníes las denominaban Las Tres Viudas; para este pueblo, Alnilam, la estrella central, es la madre de las otras dos, y las tres están viudas a causa de la guerra. En la Astronomía árabe eran conocidas como El Collar de  Perlas, y es curiosa la Teoría conocida como de la Correlación de Orión, según la cual las tres famosas pirámides de Guiza, en el Valle de los Reyes de Egipto, fueron construidas, supuestamente, siguiendo el modelo de las tres estrellas del Cinturón de Orión, ensalzando de esa manera los conocimientos astronómicos que poseían los antiguos habitantes de aquel enigmático imperio, del que aún desconocemos tantas cosas.

ORIÓN
Estrellas principales:
* Betelgeuse: proviene de una expresión árabe que significa "axila del que está en el centro".
* Rigel: de origen árabe, es la "pierna del que está en el centro" ("Rijl Jauzah al Yusra").
* Bellatrix: el significado último de este nombre es "la mujer guerrera". Su origen se halla en una serie de errores de
traducción al y del árabe medieval de una palabra, "al najid", que significa "el conquistador ".
* Saiph: proviene de la expresión árabe "Saif al Jabbar", esto es, "la espada del gigante".
* Mintaka: palabra árabe que significa "cinturón".
* Alnitak: del árabe, significa "faja".
* Alnilam: proviene de árabe, de una expresión que significa "collar de perlas".
Descripción 
Es la constelación más impresionante del Hemisferio Norte y representa de forma muy "evidente" una figura humana con un arco extendido hacia el este, enfrentándose a Tauro. Contiene dos estrellas de primera magnitud, Betelgeuse y Rigel y la famosa nebulosa de Orión en forma de daga que cuelga de tres estrellas en línea recta que conforman el Cinturón de Orión.
La constelación de Orión, gracias al brillo de las estrellas que la componen, ha estado presente en todas las culturas en un lugar de relevancia entre los mitos celestes, aunque no siempre considerando todas las estrellas involucradas actualmente.
La primera noticia que se tiene de ella la sitúa en Mesopotamia: aparece en las tablas de Mul-Apin bajo el nombre de "Siba-zi-an-na", "El verdadero pastor celeste". De una tradición acadia procede el término "Papsukkal", que es el visir de los dioses Anu e Inanna (An e Ishtar en acadio). La forma se correspondería a la actual, con el personaje representado sujetando un bastón o un arco.
En el antiguo Egipto, esta constelación fue de gran importancia, aunque no completa: las tres estrellas del Cinturón de Orión, Alnitak, Alnilam y Mintaka, eran las representantes de Sah, dios estelar que representaba a Osiris. Frecuentemente se ha asociado a esta constelación la propiedad de servir a los arquitectos egipcios como "mapa estelar" por el cual orientar las pirámides del Imperio Antiguo. La mayor parte de estas afirmaciones son fábulas, aunque estudios serios no descartan que esta constelación formara parte de la vida de los egipcios de aquella época de forma muy importante.
En la antigua Grecia, ya Homero nombra a esta constelación con el nombre de Orión. Era un hermoso cazador, hijo de Euríale y Poseidón, de estatura inmensa ("sus hombros sobresalían del mar en las fosas más profundas"), del que se cuentan muchos mitos (bastante inconexos, por cierto). Se habría enamorado de Mérope, y al no ser correspondido se emborrachó un día y la forzó. El padre de Mérope, Enopión, pidió venganza al dios Dionisos, que durmió al cazador en un profundo sueño. Enopión aprovechó esto para arrancarle los ojos. Desesperado y sin vista, Orión se dirigió a un oráculo, quien le dijo que sólo recuperaría la vista caminando sin descanso hacia el Este (que es precisamente la dirección que siguen las constelaciones).
Tras mucho caminar llegó a Lemnos, donde recuperó la visión. Dedicó mucho tiempo a perseguir a Enopión buscando venganza, pero nunca lo alcanzó. Con el tiempo, entró al servicio de Artemisa (Diana, la cazadora), como cazador. Se cuenta de él que era el mejor cazador de su tiempo, y que maravillaba a todos con sus proezas... hasta el punto que la soberbia se adueñó de él. Un día, llegó a decir que ni el más grande y poderoso animal era rival para él. Al acabar la frase, un diminuto escorpión le picó en el pie y lo mató. Artemisa se apiadó de su servidor y pidió a Zeus que lo situara entre las estrellas. Desde entonces, la constelación de Orión se oculta por el oeste cuando la constelación de Scorpius sale por el este.
