Before I start with the Bible verses that I would like to share with you, I want to let you know that I study the Life Application Study Bible.  I have other study Bibles, but this is the one I really enjoy.

1 Corinthians 1:26-32

" 26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world's eyes or powerful or wealthy* when God called you. 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world* , things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29 As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

30 God has united you with Christ Jesus.  For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God, he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 31 Therefore, as the scriptures say, "If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.*"

1:26* Or high born  1:28* Or God chose those who are low born.

1:31* Jeremiah 9:24..."But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, I the Lord, have spoken!"

Not all the verses are explained but we get enough information so that we are able to understand a little bit more.  Here are the explanations...

1:27 Is Christianity against rational thinking? Christians clearly do believe in using their minds to weigh the evidence and make wise choices.  Paul is declaring that no amount of human knowledge can replace or bypass Christ's work on the cross.  If it could, Christ would be accessible only to the intellectually gifted and well educated and not to the ordinary people or to the children.

1:28-31  Paul continues to emphasize that the way to receive salvation is so simple that any person who wants to, can understand it.  Skill and wisdom do not get a person into God's Kingdom...simple faith does.  So no one can boast that personal achievements helped him or her secure eternal life.  Salvation is totally from God through Jesus' death.  There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation, we need only to accept what Jesus has already done for us.

1:30  God is our source and the reason for our personal relationship with Christ.  Our union and identification with Christ results in our having God's wisdom (Colossians 2:3), being acceptable to God (2 Corinthians 5:21), being pure (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7), and having the penalty for our sins paid by Jesus
(Mark 10:45).

I will include the verses that are mentioned in 1:30

Colossians 2:3..."In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

2 Corinthians 5:21 …"For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin*, so that we could be made right with God through Christ."

5:21*...Or to become sin itself.

1Thessalonians 4:3-7...3 "God's will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. 4 Then each of you will control his own body* and live in holiness and honor. 5 not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. 6 Never harm or cheat a Christian brother in this matter by violating his wife*, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. 7 God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives."

4:4* Or will know how to take a wife for himself or will earn to live with his own wife, Greek reads will know how to possess his own vessel.
4:6* Greek... Never harm or cheat a brother in this matter.

Mark 10:45..."For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and give his life as a ransom for many".

I hope you will enjoy studying the verses that I am bringing.

Romans 8:1-8    Since the the explanations are long, I am dividing this into two parts...

Part 1:

1 "So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power* of the life giving-Spirit has freed you* from the power of sin that leads to death. 3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature*.  So God did what the law could not do.  He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin's control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will. 8 That's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God."

8:2a* Greek... the law, also in 8:2b   8:2b*  Some manuscripts read me    8:3* Greek our flesh

The explanations...

8:1 "Not guilty let him go free."  What would those words mean to you if you were on death row?  The fact is that the whole human race is on death row, justly condemned for repeatedly breaking God's holy law.  Without Jesus we would have no hope at all.  But thank God! He has declared us not guilty and has offered us freedom from sin and power to do his will.

8:2 This life-giving Spirit is the Holy Spirit.  He was present at the creation of the world (Genesis 1:2), and he is the power behind the rebirth of every Christian.  He gives us the power we need to live the Christian life.  For more about the Holy spirit, read the notes on
John 3:6, Acts 1:3, 1:4, 1:5

8:3 Jesus gave himself as a sacrifice for our sins.  In Old Testament times, animal sacrifices were continually offered at the Temple.  The sacrifices show the Israelites the seriousness of sin. Blood had to be shed before sins could be pardoned (see Leviticus 17:11). But the blood of animals could not really remove sins (Hebrews 10:4).  The sacrifices could only point to Jesus sacrifice, which paid the penalty for all sins.

8:5,6 Paul divides people into two categories: those who are dominated by their sinful nature, and those who are controlled by the Holy spirit.  All of us could be in the first category if Jesus hadn't offered us a way out.  Once we have said yes to Jesus, we will want to continue following him, because his way brings life and peace. Daily we must consciously choose to center our life on God.  Use the Bible to discover God's guidelines, and then follow them. In every perplexing situation, ask yourself, What would Jesus want me to do? When the Holy Spirit points out what is right, do it eagerly.  For more on our sinful nature versus our new life in Christ, see 6:6-8, Ephesians 4:22-24, Colossians 3:3-15.

I will include the verses mentioned in the explanations...
Genesis 1:2
"The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters."

John 3:6 "Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life."
These are the notes mentioned on John 3:6...
Who is the Holy Spirit? God is three persons in one...the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God became a man in Jesus so that Jesus could die for our sins.  Jesus rose from the dead to offer salvation to all people through spiritual renewal and rebirth. When Jesus ascended into heaven, his physical presence left the earth, but he promised to send the Holy Spirit so that his spiritual presence still be among humankind. (see Luke 24:49). The Holy Spirit first became available to all believers at Pentecost (Act 2). Whereas in Old Testament days the Holy Spirit empowered specific individuals for specific purposes, now all believers have the power of the Holy Spirit available to them. There are more verses on the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:1-8
Part 2:

Continuation on the verses in the explanations of the verses on Romans 8:1-8...

Acts 1:3-5
"3 During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many was that was actually alive.  And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God. 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, "Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

The explanations...

Acts 1:3 Jesus explained that his coming inaugurated the Kingdom of God.  When he returned to heaven, God's Kingdom would remain in the hearts of all believers through the presence of the Holy Spirit. But the Kingdom of God will no be fully realized until Jesus Christ returns to judge all people and remove all evil from the world. Until that time believers are to work to spread God's Kingdom across the world.  The book of Acts records how this work was begun.  What the early church started, we must continue.

Acts 1:4,5
The Trinity is a description of the unique relationship of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  If Jesus had stayed on earth, his physical presence would have limited the spread of the Good News because physically he could be in only one place at a time.  After Christ was taken up into heaven, he would be spiritually present everywhere through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent so that God would be with and within his followers after Christ returned to heaven. The Spirit would comfort them, guide them to know his truth, remind them of Jesus' words, give them the right words to say, and fill them with power (see John 14-16).

Acts 1:5
At Pentecost (2:1-4) the Holy Spirit was made available to all who believed in Jesus.  We receive the Holy Spirit (are baptized with him) when we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior.  The baptism of the Holy Spirit must be understood in the light of his total work in Christians.

(1) the Spirit marks the beginning of the Christian experience.  We cannot be Christians without his Spirit (Romans 8:9), we cannot be joined to Christ without his Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).  We cannot be adopted as his children without his Spirit (Romans 8:14-17; Galatians 4:6,7); we cannot be in the body of Christ except by baptism in the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13).

(2) The Spirit is the power of our new lives.  He begins a life-long process of change making us more like Christ (Galatians 3:3, Philippians 1:6). When we receive Christ in faith,we begin an immediate personal relationship with God.  The Holy Spirit works in us to help us become like Christ.

(3) The Spirit unites the Christian community in Christ (Ephesians 2:19-22). The Holy Spirit can be experienced by all, and he works through all (1 Corinthians 12:11, Ephesians 4:4).

Leviticus 17:11 "For the life of the body is in its blood.  I have given you the blood on the alter to purity you, making you right with the Lord*.  It is the blood given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible."

17:11*...Or to make atonement for you.

Hebrews 10:4
"For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins."

Romans 6:6-8   6"We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are not longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him."

Ephesians 4:22-24 Since 22 starts about the middle of the verse, I am including verse 21.

Ephesians 4:21-24
21 "Since you have heard about Jesus and learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes."

Colossians 3:3:15
3 "For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your* life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don't be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming*. 7 You used to do these things when your life was part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander and dirty language. 9 Don't lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as your learn your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn't matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.

12 Sin God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other's faults and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule your hearts. For as members of one body, you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful."

3:4* Some manuscripts read "Our".

May God keep blessing you...
