NUEVA YORK (Reuters) - Una guitarra que tocó George Harrison, componente de los Beatles, fue vendida el viernes por 567.500 dólares (unos 423.280 euros), superando la cantidad que la casa de subastas Christie's dijo que era su venta más importante de un objeto de este tipo.

La guitarra eléctrica Gibson SG, tocada por Harrison desde 1966 hasta 1969, fue la principal atracción de los 400 lotes, que recogían desde guitarras hasta ropa o autógrafos de las estrellas.

La guitarra, cuya preventa se había estimado en 500.000 dólares, fue usada durante la grabación del álbum de los Beatles "Revolver".

John Lennon también tocó esta guitarra en el que es comúnmente conocido como "The White Album".

La guitarra de los Beatles fue recientemente redescubierta y ha estado prestada al vestíbulo de la fama del Rock and Roll desde 2002.

Harrison dio la guitarra a Pete Ham de Badfinger y tras la muerte de Ham en 1974, permaneció guardada durante 28 años por su hermano John Ham.

Johnny Ramone, one of the greatest and most influencial rock 'n' roll guitarists of all time, died of prostate cancer on September 15, 2004. The third of the original Ramones to die since 1991, he was the second to succumb to cancer. The "Ramones Beat On Cancer" concert took place on Johnny and CJ Ramone's birthday with profits benefiitting cancer research and the lymphoma foundation.

Few partnerships in rock 'n' roll have been as productive as the collaboration between Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and of course having wunderkind Brian Jones along did nothing to hinder the Rolling Stones' popularity. From the get-go, the band played the raunchy, gritty doppelganger to the Beatles' dandified Merseybeat pop. They ventured a heavier, bluesier sound than their British Invasion counterparts, taking their cues from Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. The band's greatest strength, besides Charlie Watts, has always been their ability to add stylistic touches drawn from their interests in Eastern music, psychedelia, country and even disco to a blues rock chassis. It's difficult to listen to the trippy Their Satanic Majesties Request, the down-and-out honky-tonk of Exile On Main Street and the clean modernist surfaces of Bridges To Babylon and believe they were recorded by the same band. Of course, in some ways they weren't; the lineup changes that have dogged the Stones account for much of their musical diversity. Jagger's famous slur and Richards' sloppy guitar elegance are the two constants in the band's many life cycles that make every Stones song instantly recognizable.
