Incubated Pied Hornbills in Singapore

A newborn 48-day-old pied hornbills had a fruit on its beak at Jurong Bird Park in Singapore. Jurong Bird Park, the world´s largest avian paradise has scored a first yet again with succesful artificial incubation of two great pied hornbills, one of the most notoriously difficult species to breed in captivity.

El Malabar Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros coronatus) es un cálao . Hornbills are a family of tropical near-passerine birds found in the Old World . Cálaos son una familia de los bosques tropicales cercanos a la paseriformes las aves que se encuentran en el Viejo Mundo .

The Malabar Pied Hornbill is a common resident breeder in tropical southern Asia from India and Sri Lanka east to Borneo . El Malabar Pied Hornbill es un criador residente común en las zonas tropicales del sur de Asia de la India y Sri Lanka hacia el este hasta Borneo . Its habitat is open woodland and cultivation, often close to habitation. Su hábitat es el bosque abierto y el cultivo, a menudo cerca de las viviendas.
