To keep automatic pet water fountain clean, disassemble and clean the entire unit weekly using a soft brush, mild soap, and warm water. Change the water every other day, and replace the filter according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually every 2-4 weeks. Deep cleaning with a vinegar and baking soda mixture can be done monthly to tackle stubborn residue and buildup.

Weekly maintenance
  • Unplug the fountain: Always disconnect the power before you begin any cleaning.
  • Disassemble the fountain: Take apart all removable components, including the pump, to get to every part.
  • Wash with soap and water: Use warm water and a gentle soap to scrub all parts. Pay close attention to the pump, which can be disassembled further to clean the impeller with a small brush or Q-tip.
  • Rinse thoroughly: Make sure to rinse all parts completely to remove any soap residue.
  • Reassemble and refill: Dry all parts completely before putting the fountain back together and refilling it with fresh water.
Regular cleaning and replacement
  • Change the water frequently: Replace the water every other day to keep it fresh and prevent bacteria growth.
  • Replace the filter: Change the filter as recommended by the manufacturer, typically every 2-4 weeks.
Tips for tough spots and prevention
  • Deep clean monthly: To remove tough buildup, use a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water or a paste of baking soda and water to scrub the components.
  • Clean the pump: Regularly disassemble the pump and use a small brush to clean out the impeller and any debris that gets inside.
  • Use a soft cloth: Avoid using abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals, which can damage the fountain and leave residues that are harmful to pets.
  • Avoid sunlight: Keep the fountain out of direct sunlight to help prevent algae growth.
