Soapstone (also known as steatite or soaprock) is a metamorphic rock, a talc-schist. It is largely composed of the mineral talc and is thus rich in magnesium. It is produced by dynamothermal metamorphism and metasomatism, which occurs in the areas where tectonic plates are subducted, changing rocks by heat and pressure, with influx of fluids, but without melting. It has been a medium for carving for thousands of years.


Magnesium ( /mæɡˈniːziəm/ mag-nee-zee-əm) is a chemical element with the symbol Mg, atomic number 12, and common oxidation number +2. It is an alkaline earth metal and the eighth most abundant element in the Earth's crust [2] and ninth in the known universe as a whole.[3][4] Magnesium is the fourth most common element in the Earth as a whole (behind iron, oxygen and silicon), making up 13% of the planet's mass and a large fraction of the planet's mantle. As time progresses, a massive star comes to resemble a nuclear-fusion onion, with reactions progressing in layers. The very center of the star will be "burning" the heaviest elements, with lighter nuclei "burning" in successive layers, out from the center. We might find, for example, a core in which oxygen fuses to silicon and sulfur, surrounded by layers in which neon fuses to oxygen and magnesium, carbon fuses to neon and magnesium, and so forth.

Gamma rays from a rare aluminium isotope produced by exploding stars appear to permeate our galaxy, the Milky Way.

The new measurement has allowed astronomers to predict a supernova rate of two explosions per century in our galaxy, confirming the supernova rate seen in other galaxies. The researchers also calculated that about 7.5 stars are born in our galaxy every year.

Massive stars and supernova explosions create a radioactive isotope of aluminium - aluminium-26. The decay of the isotope to magnesium creates gamma rays that astronomers are able to observe.

The team used ESA's INTEGRAL spacecraft, launched in 2002, to examine the distribution of gamma rays in the disc of the Milky Way. Astronomers could see that the gamma rays were coming from the central region of the galaxy and not simply from local hot spots in the foreground, near Earth.

Matter closer the centre of the galaxy rotates faster than matter farther out, counterbalancing the increased gravitational tug at the heart of the Milky Way. This means the gamma rays are affected differently by the Doppler shift, and this can be detected from Earth: gamma-rays produced in regions closer to Earth would be shifted less.

Gamma rays penetrate the dust and gas that obscures many of the star-forming regions of the galaxy. "This observation of aluminium-26 creates an instant snapshot of the galaxy for us," says Dieter Hartmann, an astronomer at Clemson University, South Carolina, US, and a member of the research team. "It has drawn us an accurate picture that we haven't had before."

Based on the distribution of gamma rays, Roland Diehl, of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching, Germany, and colleagues estimated that the aluminium-26 in the galaxy has a mass equivalent to that of three suns.

Aluminium-26 has a half life of 750,000 years, allowing researchers to track the number of recent supernovae. They inferred that one supernova explosion about every 50 years would be needed to generate the amount of aluminum-26 seen in the galaxy, though none have been recorded for a while: "We've actually been overdue now for 300 years," Hartmann told New Scientist.

"Our galaxy isn't the biggest producer of stars and supernovae in the universe, but there's still plenty of activity," Diehl notes. "A sustained star formation rate of this magnitude is just what one needs to drive its chemical and dynamical evolution, which has led to life on Earth

Triton in Greek-(Τρίτων, gen: Τρίτωνος) is a mythological Greek god, the messenger of the big sea. He is the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, god and goddess of the sea respectively, and is herald for his father. He is usually represented as a merman, having the upper body of a human and the tail of a fish, "sea-hued", according to Ovid[1] "his shoulders barnacled with sea-shells".
Like his father, Poseidon, he carried a trident. However, Triton's special attribute was a twisted conch shell, on which he blew like a trumpet to calm or raise the waves. Its sound was so terrible, that when loudly blown, it put the giants to flight, who imagined it to be the roar of a dark wild beast.

the Raven,



"The Raven" follows an unnamed narrator on a night in December who sits reading "forgotten lore"[6] as a way to forget the loss of his love, Lenore. A "rapping at [his] chamber door"[6] reveals nothing, but excites his soul to "burning".[7] A similar rapping, slightly louder, is heard at his window. When he goes to investigate, a raven steps into his chamber. Paying no attention to the man, the raven perches on a bust of Pallas above the door.
Amused by the raven's comically serious disposition, the man asks that the bird tell him its name. The raven's only answer is "Nevermore".[7] The narrator is surprised that the raven can talk, though at this point it has said nothing further. The narrator remarks to himself that his "friend" the raven will soon fly out of his life, just as "other friends have flown before"[7] along with his previous hopes. As if answering, the raven responds again with "Nevermore".[7] The narrator reasons that the bird learned the word "Nevermore" from some "unhappy master" and that it is the only word it knows.[7]
Even so, the narrator pulls his chair directly in front of the raven, determined to learn more about it. He thinks for a moment in silence, and his mind wanders back to his lost Lenore. He thinks the air grows denser and feels the presence of angels, and wonders if God is sending him a sign that he is to forget Lenore. The bird again replies in the negative, suggesting that he can never be free of his memories. The narrator becomes angry, calling the raven a "thing of evil" and a "prophet". [8] Finally, he asks the raven whether he will be reunited with Lenore in Heaven. When the raven responds with its typical "Nevermore", he is enraged, and, calling it a liar, commands the bird to return to the "Plutonian shore",[8] - but it does not move. Presumably at the time of the poem's recitation by the narrator, the raven "still is sitting"[8] on the bust of Pallas. The narrator's final admission is that his soul is trapped beneath the raven's shadow and shall be lifted "Nevermore".[8]

The major competing tradition regarding Athena's parentage involves some of her more mysterious epithets: Pallas, as in the ancient-Greek Παλλάς Άθήνη (also Pallantias) and Tritogeneia (also Trito, Tritonis, Tritoneia, Tritogenes). A distant archaic separate entity named Pallas is invoked (literate Greeks cannot remember the gender[citation needed]) as Athena's father, sister, foster sister, companion, or opponent in battle. Pallas is often a nymph, a daughter of Triton (a sea god), and a childhood friend of Athena.[22]
In every case, Athena kills Pallas, accidentally, and thereby gains the name for herself. In one telling, they practice the arts of war together until one day they have a falling out. As Pallas is about to strike Athena, Zeus intervenes. With Pallas stunned by a blow from Zeus, Athena takes advantage and kills her. Distraught over what she has done, Athena takes the name Pallas for herself.
When Pallas is Athena's father the events, including her birth, are located near a body of water named Triton or Tritonis. When Pallas is Athena's sister or foster-sister, Athena's father or foster-father is Triton, the son and herald of Poseidon. But Athena may be called the daughter of Poseidon and a nymph named Tritonis, without involving Pallas. Likewise, Pallas may be Athena's father or opponent, without involving Triton.[23] On this topic, Walter Burkert says "she is the Pallas of Athens, Pallas Athenaie, just as Hera of Argos is Here Argeie.[24] For the Athenians, Burkert notes, Athena was simply "the Goddess", hē theós, certainly an ancient title.

Triton is the largest moon of the planet Neptune, discovered on October 10, 1846, by English astronomer William Lassell. It is the only large moon in the Solar System with a retrograde orbit, which is an orbit in the opposite direction to its planet's rotation. At 2,700 km in diameter, it is the seventh-largest moon in the Solar System. Because of its retrograde orbit and composition similar to Pluto's, Triton is thought to have been captured from the Kuiper belt.[10] Triton has a surface of mostly frozen nitrogen, a mostly water ice crust,[11] an icy mantle and a substantial core of rock and metal.[5] The core makes up two-thirds of its total mass. Triton is one of the few moons in the Solar System known to be geologically active. As a consequence, its surface is relatively young, with a complex geological history revealed in intricate and mysterious cryovolcanic and tectonic terrains.[5] Part of its crust is dotted with geysers thought to erupt nitrogen.[9] Triton has a tenuous nitrogen atmosphere less than 1/70,000 the pressure of Earth's atmosphere at sea level.[9]
