El peor rechazo

No hay nada que golpee tan profundamente a alguien como el rechazo. El saber que alguien nos considera indignos, desagradables o incompetentes, afecta la percepción que tenemos de nuestro propio valor. Un trabajo reprobado o la pérdida de un empleo, son cosas que contaminan el paisaje de nuestras vidas. Felizmente, la mayoría de nosotros podemos manejar esta clase de situaciones, aunque la experiencia no es nada agradable.
La Biblia habla de una clase diferente de rechazo, que es otro asunto completamente diferente. Es difícil concebir el terror final que experimentarán quienes rechazan la amorosa oferta de salvación de Dios. Oirán estas tres palabras viniendo de la boca del Señor Jesús: “Apartaos de mí”. El Señor dice estas palabras más de una vez en los Evangelios para anunciar el juicio final de los desobedientes. Estas personas encontrarán su destino en la agonía de la separación eterna de Dios.
Muchas personas han tenido dificultad para aceptar la clara severidad de las palabras de Jesús. No reconocen que este rechazo final es, en realidad, la respuesta apropiada a la negativa del incrédulo de recibir la solución del Señor en cuanto al problema del pecado de la humanidad. Sí, este rechazo es el final del camino, un camino pavimentado con toda una vida de decisiones que dejaron a Dios fuera.
Cada decisión de actuar de modo independiente, es una decisión de aceptar el veredicto final del Salvador. O, como lo expresó G. K. Chesterton: “El infierno es el gran cumplido de Dios a la realidad de la libertad humana, y a la dignidad de la elección humana”. |

The Ultimate Father-Son Relationship

God is called by a variety of names in the Bible, and each one sheds light on an aspect of His nature. Jesus' favorite title for Him was Father. Surprisingly, this name for God is used only 15 times in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament, it's recorded 245 times!
Many of God's names speak of His majestic and lofty attributes that separate Him from mankind, but Father conveys intimacy. Jesus used this name not only because He was God's Son, but also to help people realize that Jehovah isn't some unapproachable Deity gazing down on them from a distance. Rather, He is their loving heavenly Father, who cares about them and wants to be involved in their everyday lives.
Throughout His time on earth, Christ revealed by example what this kind of love relationship was like. He depended completely on His Father for daily direction, power, and provision and obediently carried out every instruction. He often left the demands of ministry just to find a secluded place to be alone with Jehovah. We know Jesus successfully conveyed the riches of this relationship to His disciples, because in John 14:8, Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father"--he wanted to know Him the way Christ did.
Do you long for that kind of intimacy with God? He wants to relate to you as a Father to His child, and He's given you the privilege of drawing near to Him. In fact, He chose you before the foundation of the world and waits with open arms for you to enter His loving embrace. |

Causas de la rebelión

A los ojos de Dios, cualquiera que peca es rebelde, y Romanos 3.23 nos dice que todos somos pecadores. Ahora bien, es comprensible que un incrédulo decida actuar sin tener en cuenta la enseñanza bíblica. Pero, ¿qué de los que hemos dedicado nuestra vida a obedecer a Cristo? ¿Qué nos hace apartarnos de la voluntad de nuestro Padre celestial?
Hay dos tendencias humanas muy fuertes que llevan a la desobediencia: la duda y el orgullo. Ambas pueden ser peligrosamente engañosas.
La duda es la lucha mental sobre si creer o no las promesas de Dios. Desde nuestra limitada perspectiva, no entendemos cómo trabaja el Señor. A veces, su manera de actuar no parece ser el camino correcto; por eso, para obedecer debemos actuar por fe. Podemos sentir como si nos estuviéramos lanzando desde un precipicio, confiando en la cuerda invisible de Dios que nos sostiene.
El orgullo es el pecado que llevó a Satanás a caer del cielo, y es un obstáculo engañoso para el cristiano, también. Todo lo que hagamos motivados por el orgullo es rebeldía contra Dios. Sea cuál sea la causa, el pecado lleva a la muerte. El camino de Dios es la única vía que conduce a la satisfacción, la paz y la vida.
El enemigo quiere atraernos con la duda y el orgullo: creemos que ambos están bien y los justificamos desde nuestra perspectiva. Pero debemos seguir las sabias palabras de Josué: “Escogeos hoy a quién sirváis … pero yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová” (Jos 24.15). |

Grace to Keep Going

As believers, we readily attribute our salvation to God’s grace, but what does “this grace in which we stand” mean to us now (Rom. 5:2)? How does it work out in everyday life, especially when we’re going through periods of trial or suffering?
- The Lord’s grace releases His supernatural power within us so we can endure life’s hardships with a godly attitude. In fact, we’ll even be able to rejoice in what He is doing in us through the adversity.
- Grace builds our confidence in the sovereign Lord. Nothing looks hopeless when we focus on Him instead of on our problems.
- We discover the assurance of God’s sustaining presence as He walks with us every step of the way.
- Because we’ve experienced His care for us, we are able to show empathy and love to others facing hard times.
- During fiery trials, grace works to transform our character so that others can see Jesus reflected in us.
Difficulties in life are unavoidable. So we need a daily dose of God’s grace if we are to walk through trials with confidence that there is great reward on the other side. If we rely on our own strength, however, obstacles will appear insurmountable, leaving us discouraged and ready to give up.
Too often believers rely on Christ for their salvation but then try to go solo. If God’s grace was needed to save us, then logic says we would also need it for the rest of our days. Only through a continuous infusion of His sustaining power can we live a victorious Christian life. |

Sepa lo que cree

Todas las personas tienen alguna creencia, ya sea que lo reconozcan o no. Incluso aquellos que dicen que no hay Dios, creen que Él no existe. Lo que creemos afecta todos los ámbitos de nuestra vida y determina cada decisión que tomamos, pero pocas personas dedican tiempo para pensar realmente en lo que aceptan como verdadero.
Todas las creencias están basadas en algo. Algunas personas basan sus convicciones en lo que se ajusta a su estilo de vida, su razonamiento y sus deseos. Pero Jesús llama a sus seguidores a adaptar la vida a su fe en Él, y en la autoridad de su Palabra.
Siempre que añadimos otras filosofías o ideas a la Biblia, o elegimos qué partes de ella creer, creamos nuestra propia versión de fe. La Palabra de Dios es la única verdadera y confiable, porque contiene los pensamientos escritos del Dios eterno y omnisciente. Todos los demás conceptos tienen que ser valorados en comparación con lo que dice la Biblia, para determinar su validez.
Saber lo que dice la Biblia es esencial para desarrollar una creencia sólida basada en la verdad y la sabiduría de Dios. Este mundo le ofrecerá una serie de filosofías que suenan bien, pero que están mezcladas con mentiras. Una fe anclada en la Biblia es su protección contra el engaño.
Cada vez que usted enfrente un problema o una decisión, busque la respuesta en la Biblia. Comience el día leyendo la Palabra de Dios y pidiendo al Señor que le ayude a entender lo que le está diciendo. Gratitude in Affliction

At Thanksgiving, we typically express gratitude for God's blessings. But did you ever consider thanking Him for something that doesn't seem like a blessing—such as a trying circumstance you want Him to remove or change? A grateful heart is most precious to God when, humanly speaking, our situations don't warrant giving thanks. By making four foundational decisions, we can begin to see the value of our adversities and respond with appreciation.
Believe and trust the Lord. Only by viewing life from a scriptural perspective can we understand His purposes in our trials and trust His wisdom in allowing them.
Accept the situation as coming from God—either directly sent or permissively allowed. If we truly believe He's working for our good (Rom 8:28-29), we can choose to receive each difficulty as coming from His loving hand. Then we can say "Thank You."
Submit to God in the circumstance. Although we may not like the situation, knowing that God "[is] good and does good" (v. 68) allows us to confidently place our lives under His authority.
Draw from Him the strength to endure. No one has the ability within himself to endure hardships with gratefulness. Only by relying on the Lord can believers go through adversity with an appreciative heart.
Now, think about that circumstance you would like changed, and with a new mindset, offer this prayer to God: "Lord, I accept this situation as coming from You. In faith and trust, I place myself under Your loving authority, and draw from You the strength I need to endure with gratitude." |

Herederos de una gran herencia

¿Sabía usted que es heredero de una riqueza inimaginable que nunca se desvanecerá? Si ha creído en Cristo, Dios le tiene una herencia reservada en el cielo. De hecho, Él dice que ya se le ha dado (Efesios 1.11). Su derecho a esta fortuna no se basa en nada de lo que haya hecho, sino en quién es. Si usted pertenece a Cristo, ella le pertenece y le será revelada en el tiempo postrero (1 Pedro 1.4, 5).
Nadie puede quitarnos nuestra herencia, porque Dios la ha garantizado al sellarnos con su Espíritu Santo. La operación ha concluido, y solamente espera la consumación final cuando todo estará bajo el dominio de Cristo. Este sello demuestra su propiedad y autoridad sobre nosotros, y un día llegará nuestra plena redención.
Desde luego, todos queremos saber lo que vamos a heredar. Gran parte de la herencia está más allá de nuestra comprensión limitada, pero la Biblia nos da algunas pistas. Una parte implicará la transformación de nuestro cuerpo y alma. El objetivo para el cual Dios nos predestinó se realizará cuando estemos de pie delante de Él, conformados a la imagen de su Hijo (Ro 8.29; 1 Jn 3.2). Y estos cuerpos débiles y perecederos se transformarán en cuerpos poderosos y gloriosos que estarán libres del pecado y de la muerte (Fil 3.20, 21).
¿Por qué ha hecho el Señor todo esto para nosotros? Para poder mostrarnos por toda la eternidad “las abundantes riquezas de su gracia en su bondad para con nosotros en Cristo Jesús” (Efesios 2.7). Por amor y gratitud a esa bondad tan sorprendente, dediquemos cada día a vivir para Él. |

La paz con Dios

Un día le pregunté a una camarera que me servía a la mesa. “Si usted pudiera pedirle algo a Dios, ¿qué le pediría?” Su respuesta fue inmediata: “Quiero sentir paz”. Con lágrimas en los ojos, me dijo que su abuela había muerto y esto la tenía turbada emocionalmente.
Muchos en nuestro mundo son como esa joven; desean tener paz interior, pero no tienen ninguna relación con el Señor. Muchas veces, las personas buscan satisfacción intentando mejorar su aspecto, su condición física, su situación económica, o su nivel social —o consumiendo drogas. Pero tales cosas no pueden dar paz al corazón o a la mente. Solo una relación con el Señor Jesús conduce a una paz verdadera.
Antes de ser salvos, éramos esclavos del pecado y vivíamos enfrentados a Dios (Col 1.21). Nuestras rebeliones habían creado una barrera entre Él y nosotros, que no podíamos cruzar con nuestras propias fuerzas. Sin la intervención de Dios, no podríamos haber encontrado el sendero de la paz. Pero nuestro Padre celestial dio la solución perfecta para nuestro problema del pecado. Envió a su Hijo para que Él pagara por nuestras transgresiones y eliminara la separación que había entre Dios y nosotros.
Cuando pusimos la fe en Cristo como nuestro Salvador, fuimos reconciliados con Dios (Ro 5.10). En Cristo, tenemos paz para con el Padre.
Nuestro Dios trino ha dado todo lo necesario para que tengamos paz interior. El Padre celestial nos abrió el camino para que seamos parte de su familia. Jesús ofrece su paz para que podamos experimentar serenidad (Jn 14.27). Y el Espíritu Santo cultiva el fruto de la paz en nuestra vida (Ga 5.22). |

The Road of Discipleship

After Paul's conversion, he disappeared into the desert for three years, during which time the Holy Spirit instructed him in the ways of God. He emerged, ready to communicate divine truth.
The Lord speaks to believers so that they will comprehend the truth, conform to the truth, and communicate the truth. These same steps form a roadmap to discipleship. What happened during Paul's desert years was only the beginning of a life-long process--God renewed his mind and transformed him into the image of Christ. For the apostle, that change began with connecting his rich biblical knowledge to the revelation that Jesus Christ was the Son of God.
Paul knew Scripture thoroughly, but the truth that Jesus was the promised Messiah made him reconsider the foundation he'd been trusting. Everything he knew about God had to be reevaluated in light of this new information. Paul had a history of wanting to please God, so the Holy Spirit no doubt found him a willing pupil.
The apostle's spirit had to be shaped according to the Father's will. And the Lord kept working on him long after Paul left the desert and began his ministry. Every person who reads his letters is a witness to the work of God in a submissive man.
The Lord's discipleship roadmap looks similar for every believer. Like Paul, you are the Holy Spirit's student, and the knowledge you reap from Scripture should be changing your life. Be like the apostle in this way to become a disciple maker by sharing what you learn with others. |

Cristo: La fuente de paz

Antes de conocer a Jesucristo, nuestra vida estaba llena de maldad e incredulidad (Ro 1.18; 2.5, 8). Al igual que nuestro mundo lleno de contienda, clamábamos por paz y tratábamos de encontrarla, pero nuestros esfuerzos fracasaban.
Cuando pusimos la fe en el Salvador, todo eso cambió. Fuimos rescatados del dominio de las tinieblas y trasladados al reino de Cristo (Col 1.13). Cada uno de nuestros pecados —pasados, presentes y futuros— fue perdonado. La justicia divina fue satisfecha por el sacrificio de Cristo, y la ira de Dios sobre nosotros fue quitada. Nos convertimos en nueva creación, lavados por la sangre del Señor Jesús (2 Co 5.17).
Ahora que el poder del pecado sobre nosotros ha sido roto, podemos vivir en armonía con Dios. Él envió al Espíritu Santo para que sea nuestro guía, ayudándonos a experimentar la paz de Cristo (Ro 8.6). También podemos esperar la eternidad en el cielo, donde abundan la justicia, la paz y el gozo (Ro 14.17).
La historia del regreso del hijo pródigo es una ilustración de nuestra reconciliación con el Señor (Lc 15.11-32). El hijo había decidido dejar a su padre, para vivir agradándose a sí mismo. Arrepentido, regresó finalmente al hogar; su padre lo recibió con gozo y lo perdonó, y hubo armonía entre ellos. Dios ha hecho todo esto por nosotros.
Nuestra unidad con el Padre celestial tuvo un gran precio: el sacrificio de su Hijo unigénito. Cristo dio su vida por nosotros, para que pudiéramos ser reconciliados con Dios (Col 1.20). La vida cristiana debe dar testimonio de que el Señor Jesús es la fuente de nuestra paz. |

Justice and Mercy

The sinful condition of mankind presents us with a dilemma: How can a holy, righteous God forgive our sins? If He deals with us only on the basis of His justice, every human being would suffer the eternal punishment of His wrath, which their sins deserve. But if He extends mercy instead of justice, no one would pay the penalty for sin, and God would then cease to be just.
There was only one way the Lord could stay true to His nature and at the same time forgive our sins. The solution was to satisfy His justice by pouring out His wrath on a substitute. Then the penalty for sin would be paid, and He would be free to extend mercy to sinners. This is the only plan that accommodates both aspects of His divine nature. So Christ came as our substitute; He took the punishment for our sin, enabling us to experience the Father’s mercy. Now, by placing faith in Jesus, anyone can be justified--that is, declared legally righteous.
God’s plan of salvation is simple enough for a child to understand. Yet at the same time, the complexities of the transaction that occurred at Calvary are far beyond human comprehension. Although we may not fully grasp what transpired there, we can know that the cross is the greatest possible display of the Lord’s love for us.
Can you even imagine the cost of your salvation? The magnificent plan of the Father and the willing cooperation of the Son prove your tremendous value in God’s eyes. From His perspective, you are worth all the pain and suffering that was necessary to secure your eternal presence with Him in heaven. |

Cómo encontrar satisfacción

Dios nos ha dado muchas cosas para que las disfrutemos. Pero, con frecuencia, vivimos llenos de agitación en vez de satisfacción. Cuatro prácticas que generan insatisfacción son:
2. La perspectiva terrenal. Muy a menudo, vivimos enfocados en nuestras circunstancias. Nuestras mentes piensan en las actividades de la semana, del mes o del año próximo. Con razón, el deleite de la vida sigue siendo escurridizo. La solución es tener una perspectiva eterna que reconozca que Dios tiene el control y que nuestro objetivo es complacerlo.
3. La presión autoimpuesta. Todos hemos experimentado las cargas inevitables de las responsabilidades. Pero nos imponemos presiones innecesarias cuando dejamos que el “tienes que” y el “debes” nos gobiernen. El remedio es acudir a Dios, reconocer el derecho que Él tiene de decirnos lo que debemos hacer y pedirle que nos indique su plan.
4. Actitudes poco saludables. El perfeccionismo, el sentimiento de culpa y la falta de entusiasmo debilitan nuestro deleite de la vida.
La satisfacción se halla en una vida que refleje las prioridades de Dios —y pasar tiempo con Él es lo primero. Al leer su Palabra, nos volvemos conscientes del gran amor del Padre, aprendemos lo que Él considera importante y experimentamos el gozo de pertenecer al Señor. |

Our Righteousness

Anyone who thinks of himself as a pretty good person ought to take a look at God’s assessment of humanity. He says we all come into the world spiritually dead and are ruled by Satan, his world system, and our own sin nature, or flesh. In the Lord’s eyes, we are children of wrath who deserve only punishment.
On the other hand, God is so pure and holy that He is totally separated from all sin and cannot look upon it with any favor or approval (Hab. 1:13). Everything He does is appropriate and beneficial; by comparison, even mankind’s righteous acts are like filthy rags (Isa. 64:6). Yet even though we have nothing of value to offer Him, the Lord wants us for His own and has done everything necessary to draw us close.
Those of us who have placed faith in Jesus Christ have been made spiritually alive in Him, and all our sins have been forgiven. There’s a striking contrast between what we were and who we now are in the Lord. But this change has nothing to do with how good we’ve been. Even the faith with which we respond to the Savior comes from God. We can never make ourselves righteous; it’s all a gift from Him. And once He declares us justified, we will never be pronounced guilty again.
God has said that in the ages to come, He wants to show the “surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us” (Eph. 2:7). For all eternity, we will be showered with this awesome demonstration of His love. As great as our blessings are now, they’ll pale in comparison to what awaits us in heaven. |

The Power Within

God's Spirit works in every believer. He does not limit Himself to pastors and missionaries. If you've received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, then residing within you is the same great power that raised Christ from the dead (Rom 8:11) The Holy Spirit pours His energy into creating godly character in all who follow the Lord.
The fruit of the Spirit is so named because it is the character and conduct that the Holy Spirit produces in believers. These are qualities that we can't generate consistently on our own. The most powerful message we can give isn't a testimony or sermon; it is the life we live when the pressure is on, temptation is tremendous, or we are buried under an avalanche of problems.
What the world most needs to see in this modern culture is godly families loving one another, business people working with integrity and frugality, and young men and women who choose moral purity. In a word, the world needs to be exposed to believers who are obedient. |

El concepto de Dios en cuanto al dinero

El dinero juega un papel muy importante en nuestra existencia. En realidad, es imposible vivir sin él. ¿Cómo podríamos comprar comida, tener techo y adquirir ropa? Pero es más que un medio para adquirir artículos de primera necesidad. La búsqueda de dinero ha dominado la historia de la humanidad. Por el dinero se han librado guerras, se han arruinado vidas y han muerto personas. Para tener una perspectiva correcta sobre el dinero, los cristianos deben entender la perspectiva del Señor en cuanto al mismo.
Dios es la fuente. Todo se origina del Creador y, por tanto, todo le pertenece a Él (Sal 24.1). Esto significa que no somos más que administradores del dinero que Él nos ha confiado. Aunque trabajamos para tenerlo, Dios es quien nos ha dado las oportunidades y las capacidades para ganarlo.
El Señor usa el dinero para sus propósitos. No podemos separar nuestras finanzas de nuestro cristianismo. Dios no da dinero solo para nuestras necesidades físicas; lo utiliza también para transformarnos espiritualmente. En tiempos de necesidad, nos enseña a confiar en Él, y demuestra que Él es fiel al proveerlo. El dinero es también una herramienta que Dios usa para enseñarnos disciplina. En vez de abandonarnos a nuestros deseos, aprendemos a buscar su voluntad y a estar satisfechos con lo que tenemos. Además, el Señor usa el dinero para enseñarnos a ser generosos y altruistas.
Saque un billete de su billetera y mírelo; ese pedazo de papel es un poderoso instrumento en manos del Señor cuando usted le da autoridad sobre ese dinero y coopera con el plan del Señor. Cuando usted abra su cartera y vea un billete, recuerde que lo que haga con él revelará su integridad. |

Jesus Christ the Sin Bearer

The cross is so common in our culture that most people don’t think twice when they see one on a church. But unfortunately, familiarity with the symbol can actually get in the way of understanding what it truly means. So let’s stop to consider how Jesus became the bearer of sin.
We begin with Scripture written long before Jesus was born. Genesis, the first book of the Bible, explains how man chose to disobey God. Because Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, their descendants are all born under the curse of death, having inherited a sinful “flesh” nature.
In Leviticus, God’s laws for the Jewish nation included observance of Yom Kippur, the day each year when the Israelites fasted, prayed, and sacrificed an animal to atone for sin. In essence, the goat would bear the wrongs done by the people and suffer the penalty that divine justice required.
Centuries later, Isaiah prophesied that a Savior would atone for transgression once and for all (Isa. 53:5, 8; Heb. 7:27). After another 700 years, John the Baptist identified Jesus as the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world (John 1:29). The Messiah had come, though He was totally different from what the people expected--so much so, in fact, that they rejected Him and requested His crucifixion.
In all, God gave 613 laws through Moses. But none of us can perfectly follow even the Ten
Commandments. In fact, one reason He gave us these rules is to show us our need for a Savior (Ps. 19:7; Gal. 3:24). Meditate on those commands (Ex. 20:1-17), asking God to speak to your heart.
