Blast Of Color

The tutorial for making a similar tag was written by Cheryl many years ago.  I cannot find her tutorial online anywhere now, so I will provided directions for how I made this tag.
For the above tag, I used the font Quantum Taper and the tileline 1h.gif for the animation.

You will need the animations Here.  (If you get a prompt to apply for a Dropbox account, and aren't interested, just click the "no, thanks" at the bottom of the prompt.)
Notice that some of these animations have 18 frames, while others have 32.

You will be copying and pasting back and forth between PSP and AS.

Open both programs (PSP and AS)

In AS open the animation you want to use.
Go to PSP and open a new image with a transparent background.  I made mine 400x400.

Choose a font for your name and set the stroke to 1 (The stroke color should be a dark color from the animation you chose.) My font size was set to 60.  Your background color should be set to white.

Create your text.
You can add a drop shadow to your text.  I used V2, H2, Opac.  30, Blur 2, color black.

With your magic wand, select inside each letter of your name.  You can add a bevel here, if you would like.
I used inner bevel-bevel #4, width 2, smoothness 20, depth 2, Ambience 25, shininess 25, color white, 315, 50 and 50.

Keep the marching ants on your name.

go to AS
click on first frame of your animation to select it and edit-copy

go to PSP
edit-paste into selection.

Select none
edit copy

Go to AS
edit-paste as new animation

Go to PSP
edit undo-a couple of times until you are back to your white name with a bevel (if you used one) and your marching ants.

Go to AS
click on frame 2 of the animation to select it.
edit-copy

Go to PSP
edit-paste into selection
select none
edit copy

Go to AS
click on the top your new name animation to select it.
edit-paste after current frame

Go to PSP
edit-undo until you get to your white name with marching ants again.

Repeat these copy and paste instructions until you have pasted all of the original animation frames into your name.  You should have 32 or 18 frames, depending on the animation you chose.
View your name animation in AS.  Adjust the frame speeds or leave them all as 10.  I have used 200 for my first frame and 10 on the others on some of my tags.

Save your tag!

Short-cut tip: When I made a tag using the 32 frame animation, after I finished the 16th frame with my name, I selected all frames and pasted as new animation.
I went to animation-reverse frames.  Selected all.  Then to my original (name with 16 frames) and selected frame 16 and pasted after current frame.  This made a total of 32 frames!

This tag was made with the animation bluetile.gif and the font is Sonic Cut Thru.

Timber's tag was also made with the Quantum Taper font and the tileline 1h.gif.

The tag for Su was also made with the Quantum Taper font and the pinkline.gif

Hope you have fun with this and show your results.

You know I'm a fan of text tags , and this one is so mesmerizing .

I will have a play with it today and post my results when finished.

Judy, I have a question.

After selecting each white portion of the letters of the name, I add an inner bevel setting.  Then when I paste the animation frame into the selection, isn't the bevel eliminated?  You're pasting it into the same area where the bevel is, right?  My text doesn't look beveled.

Yes, you are correct about pasting into the same area.  I thought the same thing.  I tried it with the bevel anyway and to me it looked better than without.  You are probably correct about the bevel being eliminated after you paste into it.  Sometimes my eyesight isn't all that great!  I thought about not adding the bevel part but, I think the original  had it that way.

I think when you paste something into a selection, then whatever was there is painted over; at least that is what my observation is.  You can apply a bevel after pasting the animation frame into the selection if you want to add a bevel.  I compared the name with the bevel added after pasting into the selection and without the bevel, and I preferred not adding the bevel for this colored animation, but I may add a bevel on another tag.  I can't make just one, ya know .

So here is the first tag that I made using lowercase letters as that is how I usually do my name tags.

tbt18timberlcBlastofColor1a

When I looked at the completed animation in AS it didn't look right to me, so I took a look at your name, Judy, because that is the tag that caught my eye.  What I noticed is that your name was all caps, which I decided I liked better, and I also liked the spacing of the animation across your name.  The animation will appear differently for each name depending on how many letters are used.

I wanted my name to look like yours, so being the animation addict that I am I had to figure out a way of getting the same look for my longer name as you have for your shorter name.  So I measured the width of your name (252 pixels).  Then I took each frame of the animation and pasted it into a 252x18 pixel selection.  Then I copied and pasted this to create a longer line that would span the distance of my longer name.  It was a bit of work but I set up a script to do the majority of the work .  You gotta love those scripts!   So here is my result.

tbt18timberBlastofColor1a

But before I got it right, I got it wrong LOL.  Instead of only copying and pasting the animation frame, I copied/pasted and then mirrored the frame, so the animation moves toward the middle of the name instead of rolling from left to right.  It's a cool effect, but I prefer the other style of animation.

So I am not finished yet with this tutorial.  I think I would like to play with some color changes and see what I can do, and I am going to add a bevel or maybe glass it with SuperBladePro Coconutice.

Thanks for posting this tutorial challenge, Judy!   I made it a bigger challenge but I am happy with the results .

Awesome results timber!      I realized while playing with the animations, that the spacing between the colored strips changes with longer names.  The font size is another factor.
Leave it to you to figure a way around that!  I'll have to try that now!

I really like the"wrong" version also.  Maybe not better, but it is a nice option.

I've been playing with it also and thought about trying a font that is not so fat.  I am anxious to see what you come up with!  SuperBladePro sounds interesting too.

Thanks, Judy!

So here's round #2.  I used tileline1g, font size 72, and I added a soft bevel to this one.  I also changed the timing of the frames to 12.  After I posted my tags above I felt the speed was too fast, so I slowed this one down.  I prefer the softer transition; the other tags look like they drank too much coffee  LOL.

tbt18timberBlastofColor1g

These are the Inner Bevel settings that I used:

Bevel: 2
Width: 20
Smoothness: 9
Depth: 3
Ambience: 0
Shininess: 20
Color: White
Angle: 45
Intensity: 30
Elevation: 55

I really like the bevel you used and the slower speed.

I tried a different font.  On this one I used A&S Snapper, size 60 and tried the M_Coconutice in SuperbladePro.  (thanks for the idea!)

I set my speed to 12 also and I used pinkline.gif.

Well I gave it a shot. dont know if I will experiment with a bunch of different settings as this was somewhat time consuming. especially when my pspx2 would not load and I ended up searching for my psp8 , which took some time. then installed that. Judy very nice instructions. I like the results. and Thanks again for my tag
timber awesome results on all of yours. They look great!

Great tag, Su.  Thanks for sharing your results!  I love the color and the glass effect you used.

So sorry you had trouble with your PSP.  I have never used anything newer than PSP 9.  I don't think I could figure out the newer ones,.

I hear ya, Su, there's a lot of keystrokes involved with making this tag.  I really like the effect, so I don't mind doing the extra steps.  But I wouldn't want to make an offer of this tag, that's for sure LOL.  It's great to see you playing with PSP!

Can you share the name of the font that you used for your Hello?  It's a great font choice and the purple animation that you chose looks really nice!

As to your PSP trouble, I have been hearing of many other taggers who are having trouble with their PSP working properly after doing a Microsoft Update.  It seems that the update is messing things up .  I don't know if you do automatic updates or not but you may want to pay attention whenever you do an update.

Judy, your glassy tag is gorgeous! I'm a total addict for glassy text haha.  I use the Coconutice preset for so many of my tags.  The pink animation is so pretty mixed with the glass.  Thanks for sharing your tag notes.  The speed of 12 looks good.

Thanks for the font name and link, Su!
I hope you can get your computer/PSP troubles sorted.  If I see any help in his regard I'll post it.
