Watermelon Gradient Challenge
I made the tag above for a font challenge Here. The font is called Happy Days and I used size 106 with a stroke of 4.
The watermelon gradient and seeds can be downloaded Here.
Both the watermelon gradient and the seed tube were made by me a long time ago.
I used EC 4000 glass with a soft bevel by timber: bevel 6.99, smoothness 75, check inside marquee, E. D. 3, 0, 50, 0, 40, white.
The drop shadow I used on the seeds is 2, 2, 25, 2 and the color #6C0606.
I duplicated my name and moved the copy below my name layer. I gave the copy a gaussian blur of 4 and moved it down and to the right a bit.
I'd love to see what you do with this gradient and feel free to show your results on this thread. |

Here is my result! I used the seed as a pattern for the text. I dont know, I just thought I would see how that goes lol I have been having trouble w/ the Happy Days font. It does not show up in my files BUT whenever I try to reinstall it in the Fonts folder, it says it is already installed. My luck and story of my PSP life lol |

Thank you for this challenge and the supplies, Judy! I had fun playing around with this gradient and trying different gradient settings. My tag is snaggable, and I've made pressies for you, Karla and Su. They are uploaded to the Tag Drop Off album.
I experimented with the different gradient styles from Linear to Rectangular to Radial, but ultimately I chose Sunburst (0, 0, invert checked, 50/50, 0/0, link center unchecked) as I was kind of going for that watermelon wedge slice look. This font that I used, Vitamin, doesn't show off the rind as much as I would have liked but I am happy with the overall coloration of the gradient. You picked really nice shades for this watermelon gradient. I tried to figure out how to rotate the watermelon seed in the tube settings but I couldn't figure out how to do it so all my seeds are standing straight up LOL. I suppose I could have selected them and rotated them but I thought for sure there would be some kind of setting for the tube that would randomly rotate the tube. If you know of such a setting, then please let me know. I don't work with the Tube Tool very much, so I enjoyed trying something new. I used the Eye Candy 3 Glass settings from Kes' Glass Text Tutorial to give my text some gloss. I tried beveling the text first but no matter which bevel settings I used the text stopped looking like watermelon, so I omitted the bevel. The effect is very subtle but I've actually animated the gradient fill. At first I tried PSP Noise, but it made the gradient look dirty, so I tried a different technique using Texture Effects/Mosaic Glass (95, 95, symmetric checked, 95, 85, 3, 7); I changed grout diffusion value to create the movement. So even though this effect is subtle at least the colors of the pixels match the gradient. The effect is kind of like Toadies Blast 'Em. I also animated the outline of my text with PSP Noise.
Wow, Karla, your text looks awesome! I love how you used the seed as fill and how the seed is colored by the gradient. Is that some kind of motion trail on your text? I would love to know more details of how you made your tag if you remember. It's very dimensional and eye catching. It's totally my kind of text tag And I enjoyed reading your colorized message!

Awesome results, Karla! What an ingenious idea to use the seed as a pattern. Thanks for showing us your results. I hope you had fun playing with the gradient.
Timber, you are welcome for the supplies. Thanks so much for the gorgeous tag and snag.
I love the way you used the starburst gradient style and made it look like a wedge slice. I will have to try that. Thanks for sharing your notes on how you made your tag, I will try those settings for a wedge like text!
I love it!! |

Sorry, timber, I forgot to answer your question about using the seed as a tube. When I made it originally, I thought you could rotate the seed as a tube, but I don't think there is a way. I just rotated each seed on my tag. Another way would be to use the tube to make seeds, rotate them and then save them a tube.
