I would like some help with creating a drop shadow that makes text stand off the page like this tag.



Here's my attempt at trying to give "lift" to my text.  The drop shadow settings that I used are (5,5,25,8,black).



I think the text looks lifted, but the shadow seems too large or too blurred to me.  Getting drop shadows right has always been hard for me to figure out so I usually use the same old ones , but I'd love to learn more about how to adjust the settings to get the drop shadow effect that I want .

Any ideas?

I have found that plugins like EC 4000 ShadowLab do the best job of making an image stand off the page.

 

Here is one I tried just to show you.

 

 

The settings I used for this one are:

 

Center Offset Direction  315

Center Offset Distance  16.98

Overall Opacity 20

Overall blur 2.00

Color Black

Check draw Outside of Selection

 

You can play around with these settings to see what they do.  Any drop shadow plugin that allows you to place shadow behind, in front of, or on the walls should do this.

You are welcome, timber.  The free plugin, Lokas 3d Shadow also does the same thing.  I had to re install it and so lost all of my presets.

Hi Timber,  I am not sure if I have mentioned this before ,  but I adore this tag of yours with the blue and black with the motion trail that ends in a star .... is it possible you could do a tutorial for this one ...

Thank you for this tread. I have so much confusion when I'm working with drop shadows.

I like the lift settings.  They are perfect to me. I have always been aprehensive about adding them, but the do mke a big difference in the way the tag looks.  I will put these in my presets and try them out. Againe thank you for adding your presets for us.

Using Timbers shadow on both. I will play around with this now.
