Easy Suede

I've been playing with the Brush Strokes filter in the Art Media Effects lately, and I created a pattern that reminded me of suede, so I thought I'd share how I made it.

  1. Fill a layer with color=#A5826CIt can be a different shade but stay within the medium tones for this as dark tones don't show this very well.
*Update July 2021* With my new brighter monitor I can see this technique also works on much darker tones, so experiment with different colors (dark and light).

  2. Add Noise (Uniform 8% Monochrome).  If you don't have monochrome noise (I think PSP7 doesn't have it), then you can use DSB Flux (8% Mix).

  3. Effects>Art Media Effects>Brush Strokes
    Apply the Soft Blur preset.

  4. If you would like to create a seamless tile to use for text fill, then apply the Simple Filters Quick Tile filter.  You could also use Effects>Image Effects>Seamless Tiling (default settings).

Thank you Timber! I love these quick teaching tuts.
I gave it a try and I love the results for a tile. Looked great.
And you know how much I love tiles.
When I tried the tile as a text fill I didn't really like the results, so...
I did a western text (Oklahoma) at 60 with a stroke of 2, aligned center, selected from vector, modified by 2 and converted to raster. Then I applied the noise, the brush stroke - soft blur, added a bevel (screen shot) and a drop shadow 2,1,25,3 Black.

I like the way those settings look on a tag. very nice.

Whoo-hoo...   Thank you so much, JJ!   I love her!

When I created this technique, I thought of you and Jossie because you both seem to like western things, and I thought this suede would be perfect for some of those tags that you two make. I love the font that you chose for my tag and the bevel and drop shadow! And the doll you picked is gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing your information about your font and bevel and such!

I've really been enjoying all the sharing of information that we are all doing.  It's like having mini tuts all over the place!
